Guess you proved that works! 👍🎣🙂 That’s a great video! I just started practicing that retrieve 2 days ago..and boy do I need practice, but I’ll get it..eventually! 😂 Happy holidays to you!
I know!! How crazy was that...as I was filming the tutorial, a fish grabbed the fly - Lol. So cool and happy holidays to you and yours as well - Cheers!
Nice to see I’m not the only one still using an Orvis Battenkill large arbor reel! I had a vendor joke a few years ago that it should be in a museum…Naw, it still works fine!
I absolutely LOVE mine! In fact, just picked up a couple of OG Battenkill Large Arbor reels on Ebay - just in case the one that has a million fish miles on er finally gives up :))
No offense but Joe Humphries was using that retrieve clear back decades ago when he was teaching flyfishing classes at Penn State. If you want to learn almost anything about flyfishing check out Joe's videos. He is deceased but flyfished into his 90's. He taught many dignitaries how to flyfish including President Jimmy Carter
@@Troutbitten you are correct. My brain was in the cloud some where. Don't know what I was thinking. He is by far the man responsible for teaching me how to flyfish. Ty for correcting my stupidity.
Hello Everyone! Here is a link to the fly line used in this tutorial - a quality floating line makes all the difference when casting! amzn.to/38jUaTg
Nice release glad to see someone else that does catch and release and doesn’t take the fish out of the water
Thank you - I’m not always successful at that - but I always wet my hands and the fish rarely stays out of the water more than a second. Cheers!
Good quick review!
Thank you!

😂😂. That was perfect.
Thank you!
Damn that bite was hard!!!
I've always used this method for swinging soft hackle wets and bringing them back in this way. Catches lots of trout.
Indeed it does! It was pretty awesome that it happened during my tutorial...Lol
Figure 8 retrieve
Another great name for it! Cheers!
This is how I was thought to retrieve…although I learned from the best teacher…Ernie kalwa
That’s awesome - cheers!
That's all so awesome thank you

It's called the figure 8 over here
I have heard that as well - thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers!
The figure 8 retrieve? Ive used that since day one watching Bob cargnil's fly fishing videos from the 80's
It's an effective retrieve for sure!
That retrieve is called a 'figure of 8'
It’s also referred to as the ‘finger roll’ - Happy New Year to you!
That’s actually called the figure of eight retrieve !😂
Great demonstration with a happy ending
Yes indeed! Love beaker btw :))

Never heard of it Dan ? Good thing to know ! Thanks bub ! 😁 take care 🖒

It totally works - gives the fly a bit of action. Good stuff and thank you for watching!
In ireland we just call that figure of eight
That’s cool - I hadn’t heard that before...awesome. Cheers!
COOL ,TAKE ME FISHEN
I know this technique as the 'figure of 8"
I'm sorry that trout interrupted your tutorial, Dan!
I certainly don't mind that type of interruption! :))
That's called stitching in bass fishing
What’s the reel you’re using?!
Orvis Battenkill large arbor - 25 years old :))
What rod are you using?
I was using my Sage TCR on this video, 5 weight
Almost figure of 8ing.
Indeed! I've always called it the 'finger roll'...but I have heard figure '8' often as well. Thanks for watching - Cheers!
I've been trying this lately, it requires a level of dexterity not to tie your fingers together 😂
🤣🤣🤣🎣
Woohoo!! :))
It's called a figure of eight
It's also called the 'finger roll' - tomato tomahto :)) Cheers!
