  • This episode Bumpa and Halfthrottle set out the long line hooks in an attempt to fill the freezers for the winter. Nothing like fresh Alaskan Halibut! Was a perfect day to play on Prince William Sound!

    We put up all of our halibut in October this way. A couple trips with our line and filled the freezer. Sharc fishing is awesome.

      LOL There are some advantages to living on the coast! One of them is NOT the rain, tho! HAHAHA

    Halibut are delicious. My Halibut trip got blown out when we visited there. I really have to go back. It's like fishing heaven up there. It was amazing to see the Salmon run in the small creeks.

      Yeah, the weather in Alaska can drive you crazy especially if you only have a handful of days to do something! We've waited WEEKS to go out on the boat due to unsafe weather!

      Well, unless you're lucky (very lucky) you don't get a halibut on every hook! LOL Out of 50 hooks we only got four. I think the most I've ever had on a string of 60 is around 12. Then again, we didn't want to go far from home to find fish!

      Yep, it wasn't for lack of tryin, tho! We trolled for a couple hours and never got a bite. When trolling with the main, we were going too fast. The slowest it goes without constantly bumping in and out of neutral is two knots. Usually troll at one knot.
      At least that's the excuse machine rollin on! LOL

    We live close to you, Its my understanding that you can only use one permit at a time....... Also that you cannot sport fish while you subsistence fish....... am I wrong?

    • @Broknex
      @Broknex  6 лет назад

      Not true. With a SHARC card you can fish up to two cards for a total of 60 hooks. If you want to drop a line, take hooks off your longline. As long as you are not fishing more than 30 hooks per person. For subsistence they don’t care how you catch them.

      @@Broknex 30 per boat for a SHARC and pull by hand...id re-check those regs

    • @Broknex
      @Broknex  5 лет назад

      @@gregorygass6370 Different areas have different rules. Where I am in 3A it is 30 per person and a max of 90 per boat AND longline gear is absolutely included in the rules. Nowhere in 3A is pull by hand only. Pull by hand is ONE of the many options for SHARC subsistence. Like I said, other areas in Alaska have different rules, so you are correct to check the regs often!

      @Broknex  5 лет назад

      @@gregorygass6370 I forgot to say thank you for your comment! It is much appreciated and it made me go back and go through the NOAA rules for my area to make sure, and I did learn that it is 90 hook max (3 permit holders) instead of 60 like I originally thought!

      @@Broknex well thats lucky for you up there...maybe im wrong about SE. ill take my own advice.

  • @redwood9741

    Yeah..you might want to check your rules..down here in Prince of Wales Ak..on the NOAA SKATE PERMIT...You can only run one permit ( 30 HOOKS ) on a boat at any time...but another permit holder can help you haul in the line...non permit holders can not help to haul lines.
    Also you can sport fish as long as you Only have a total of 30 hooks in the water...so you could have 28 hooks on your skate line and two people could be sport fishing with the other two.I f you had 6 people ( permit holders or non permit holders ) on the boat fishing..you could only have 24 hooks on your skate line.
    If your skate line is out ..you can't keep any halibut that day you catch sport fishing..but any other fish you can keep.

    • @Broknex
      @Broknex  4 года назад

      I think the rules might have been changed slightly since this video was made. The halibut rules vary greatly from one Alaskan location to the next. You have to be cautious to make sure you are up to speed on whatever the current regulations are.

    This is not subsistence fishing 90k dollar boat and you can't afford to buy halibut

  • @redwood9741
    @redwood9741 Год назад +1

    Any way now one boat can only put out one permit of 30 hooks..if you plan to go salmon fishing to kill time before you pull it in..those hooks need to be minused off you 30...if you have two guys..you can have 28 hooks on the skate and 2 hooks for salmon that day..hope this helps.
    Cheers
