Hi Adrian many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! You never know what you'll see when you review the underwater film - always surprising how many fish are down there! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Always interesting to see how the fish react to the lure. Also nice to see that I’m not the only one bringing up lots of sculpins/cabezons/red Irish lords. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Kim many thanks for tuning in and I'm glad you enjoyed this video! haha no kidding about the sculpin! I actually stopped at this spot for about 15mins and caught 3 sculpin back to back - then I checked the footage later and saw that a halibut showed up on each cast! These were small fish but I have some underwater footage of larger halibut coming up in the next few months. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
I did notice the halibut. I also noticed that you were drifting, and it was interesting to see how much ground your jig covered. I guess that surprised me, I must not see it that way in my mind's eye when I'm drifting a jig. Be happy you're not in Homer this week, today is blizzard #3 in the past 4 days. A bit atypical.
Yes indeed it was neat to see the bottom as the jig drifted over the bottom - to be honest it didn't feel like I was moving that fast but the tape doesn't lie! Wow sounds like a crazy blizzard in Homer! It has been snowing in Juneau this week as well but nothing too extreme. Maybe all this snow early will lead to an early spring (and halibut fishing sooner!). Tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi pascalb1974 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! I appreciate the kind words. I've got a lot more underwater footage from last season to be published in the coming months so stay tuned! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Deandre thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! How cool that you are going on a charter trip this July - you are going to have a blast! Good luck and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi John thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! Haha yes indeed those sculpin are hard to avoid at some spots! This particular spot had a lot of smaller fish (sculpin, halibut, flounder) - too bad these weren't all 50lb+ halibut! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey @mathieukirk6203 I can't believe I didn't see this before - great eye! That does look like a monster halibut lurking just a few feet away from my jig - too bad it didn't come in for a closer look! Thanks for pointing this out and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Half Nelson thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! Where is your area - somewhere in the Pacific Northwest? Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@@CaptainZac Hey Cap. I wish I was in the Pacific northwest. My home waters is Long Island Sound. There's only 3 main species folks around here target. Striped bass, Fluke (summer flounder), and Bluefish. Bluefish are by far the most numerous species but they're a vile tasting fish. There's also Blackfish, Winter Flounder, and Porgys.
Hi Brian thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! Yes indeed - there were a lot of small fish around my jig at this particular spot which led to many false / short strikes. If these had been 30-80lb halibut, they would have just devoured the jig instead! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Peeling Line thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! I use a spreader bar, an underwater housing and some zip ties. You can see it in this video: ruclips.net/video/V6iRbw5Imfo/видео.html. Every time I send the GoPro down I am prepared for the chance that it is the last time I'll see it! All the best and tight lines! Captain Zac
@@CaptainZac Thanks. I was going to use some old action cameras I don't use any more. How deep have you sent yours? i heard the gopro can only go 30 feet.
@@PeelingLine I can send mine to about a 100ft but it is highly dependent on the water clarity also. If it is too dark then you'll just have a bunch of black footage.
Hi Fishing Around With Jonas many thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this underwater footage! All the best and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey Kelly thanks for stopping by - yes I believe you are right. I know we have a few different types of "sculpin" around Juneau but after looking at a picture of a Cabazon I think you are spot on. Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
@@kellypowell6317 Oh interesting - Most folks in Alaska throw these back as "bycatch" since there are other tasty target species like Halibut, Rockfish, Cod, Salmon, etc... maybe I'll try keeping one next season!

The cost of fishing with a go-pro rig! It is much harder to feel a strike with all this extra gear on the line vs. fishing with a jig tied right to the main line. I don't mind missing a few if it means I can capture some cool footage! Tight lines! Captain Zac
Halibut fishing is on my "Bucket List".
Hey @idmooseman thanks for watching! Great idea - halibut fishing is definitely worth having on the Bucket List! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Great underwater footage, Captain. Loved watching how the fish behave and are attracted to the bait. Nice catches too.
