A reviewer with Rolling Stone once said "Karen Carpenter's voice is like the sound of a lover whispering in your ear." I still get chills when I hear her singing, and I graduated high school in 1978.
The Bicentennial Class of "76" here❗ We were the best ❗😁😅 (1776 -1976)🇺🇸🦅🇺🇲 //at least we thought we were ❗😂👍 I know you guys probably had brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, and neighbors that bragged about being in the class of "76" //Annoying weren't we❓🤣
Karen Carpenter has something haunting about her vioce it's a unique sound that's hard to forget, wherever you are in the world it's instantly recognisable, her brother and her had a real brother and sister closeness and both had musical talents, good to see you looking so well Lizzie.
You can cite those who sing louder, higher, and bark, but NO ONE can sing as well as KC. NO ONE. Such a tragedy this woman left us too soon with her God-given, untrained talent with a hauntingly enchanted voice and singurly best female drummer of her time.
Another timeless gem from Paul Williams and Roger Nichols (who also co-wrote We've Only Just Begun) as only Karen could do it justice. You didn't utter a single word during your reaction Liz, which was perfect because your eyes and smile spoke volumes. Thank you for yet another beautiful Carpenters reaction, I hope there'll be plenty more of them to come. ❤️ 🤗
I love that you let your face show your reactions while the song is playing instead of interrupting with commentary. Might seem stuffy, but this speaks of respect to the artists to me, even though it’s just a recording.
One of the top female voices of all time. Gone to soon. She passed at age 32 of eating disorder. Karen's is smooth and rich contrallo voice which is a low pitched. She can sing an emotion which alot of singers don't do well. She is unique. She can switch from chest voice to head voice easily. From octave to octave. The best!! Do more please.
ULTIMATE vocalist and storyteller who sang to us not at us and who knew her talent was to tell the story of every song she sang and not necessarily about her but about US, the listener!...
I'm glad you are discovering the artists of the 1970s. It was truly a good time in history for music. I graduated high school in 1975, and I felt like the world shuddered on its axis when I learned of Karen Carpenter's death. Some of her music seems so melancholy in perspective. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and impressions.
Nice reaction young lady. Saw how your heartstrings were strumming. Karen's voice is the most heartwarming I've ever heard. She still gives me goosebumps 50 years later. Carpenters blessed us with some timeless, wonderful music! RIP KAREN.
Lizzie, it is so reassuring to see young people with open minds like you, listening to the legendary Carpenters, the best- selling musical act of the 1970's. Your analysis of their music is intelligent and respectful. The Carpenters' performances are timeless. So many of the songs they chose to record have become popular music standards. Lizzie, thank you for sharing their music and helping to preserve their incomparable musical legacy.
Wonderful reaction. Karen had the best voice of all time, as she made you feel the words that she was singing. Yes, I get teary-eyed too, when I hear Karen sing.
Yes, yes, and yes to this whole look, Liz. Karen Carpenter had an incredibly smooth, natural tone to her voice that still resonates the ol' heartstrings. We are so lucky that recordings have immortalized her talents.
A woman singing and playing the drums was pretty much unheard of in the late '60s and early '70s. I wish, as a rock music fan, that I had appreciated Karen more while she was still with us. She died in her early 30s due to anorexia, gone much too soon.
Loved your reaction and comments Lizzie!❤ My wife and I love the Carpenters. We were married in August of 1970 and a few days later their song We've Only Just Begun came out and it became our song. A couple of years later we got a chance to see them live and it was a wonderful experience. We bought their album Close to You and play it every Anniversary. Best wishes Lizzie!❤
A good friend of mine from high school works for Richard Carpenter, her brother on piano, as his personal mechanic for his amazing car collection. About 50 cars.
Conejo Valley area? I believe Richard resides in Thousand Oaks or Westlake Village (I lived there for 34 years), but I'm not sure if his car collection is there too or possibly in L.A. 😎
@craigcraigster4999 Not sure but I believe my friend lives in the Thousand Oaks area. Not ultra familiar with the California area, even though I stationed there eons ago.
What wonderful comments from a beautiful lady. I was lucky to grow up with this and so many great performers from the 60's. Peace from Northern Michigan!
Her brother did the arrangements on all their music, they had great chemistry. Her drum talent was highly respected by the best drummer of the 60’s-70’s, Buddy Rich. Her death was so tragic, she suffered from an eating disorder which back in those days was unknown and because they really had no treatment lead to her death. 🙏🏻✝️❤️
I saw the Carpenters in 1972. Karen sang and drummed at the same time. I was blown away to see Karen sing and drum. She drummed and sang at the same level as Phil Collins or Levon Helm, check out on RUclips her cover of the Beatles Help and Dancing in the Streets. Karen was known for recording a song in one take. In other words, the first take was perfect. Check out the song Superstar-he recording is the first take. She read the lyrics of the song off either a napkin or envelope. I think the very best song Karen sang is Trying to get the Feeling Again. The song was lost and then found by Richard --he released it 11 years after Karen died and 19 years after it had been recorded. It is on RUclips. At one point, you hear her turn the page on the music sheets.
Karen had what singers call "perfect pitch"....Karen also was known as "one take Karen".....in the studio most of the time Karen did the whole song just one time in a recording....she was an amazing loving person with a lot of problems....RIP Ms. Carpenter...
Lizzie, I enjoyed watching your reaction to the hole compass of Karen and her richness in the delivery of the song. So many reaction people take away the beauty of a song, by input of consent interruption . It was very nice to have the privilege to enjoy the song with you.
Please do some AC DC with Bon Scott from the 70's... It's A Long Way To the Top, Highway To Hell, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Ride On, Shot Down In Flames, Big Balls, Jailbreak, TNT, High Voltage, Whole Lotta Rosie, Let There Be Rock, Overdose, Sin City, Problem Child, Gone Shootin, Rock n Roll Damnation, Down Payment Blues, Riff Raff, Gimme A Bullet, What's Next To The Moon, Up To My Neck In You, Kicked In The Teeth, Rock n Roll Singer, The Jack, Live Wire, Can I Sit Next To You Girl, Little Lover, She's Got Balls, Girls Got Rhythm, Walk All Over You, Touch Too Much, Beating Around The Bush, Get It Hot, If You Want Blood, Love Hungry Man, Night Prowler, Bad Boy Boogie, Go Down, Dog Eat Dog, Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be, Crabsody In Blue, Love At First Feel, Rocker, There's Gonna Be Some Rockin, Squealer, and the one you gotta do 1st Lizzie... I hope you Rock Lizzie and Love Bon Scott like us other 70's Rockers do...❤️❤️ RIP Bon Scott...
You certainly chose a wonderful song to play for us, Lizzie The Gangster Hippie and The Stuffed Squad. When you're posting a video, I listen to the lyrics calmly and serenely. I have lost count of how many times that I've heard "Rainy Days and Mondays". As I listened along with you Lizzie, I finally heard and understood: "What I've Got Has Come And Gone Before" Up until your video, all I understood was that Rainy days and Mondays make her sad. I need for you to know that I appreciate your videos, Lizzie. On top of the serene feeling I get. I know how much you 'prepare' before each of your videos. I've made room in my life for you and 'The Stuffed Animal Squad' videos.
Lizzie... You've GOT to check out Tori Holub's version of The Carpenter's "We've Only Just Begun." If you're not familiar with The Carpenters' version of that song then, of course, react to that first.
Yeah Lizzie, great to see you lovely lady, reacting to Karen's perfect voice. Keep well my friend. Sending positive energy to you!! RIP Karen "Angel" Carpenter
Great reactionl! Karen was a gift from heaven. Her voice was beyond all others.... And damn girl -- I hope this isn't inappropriate, but you may have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen!!
beautiful lady with an amazing voice , we lost her way to soon ! one of the very rare people with perfect pitch , and she was also a drummer , and played and sang at the same time , years before phil collins !
You might react to Lisa Stansfield's remake of Cole Porter's 1936 Down In The Depths. She didn't use all the lyrics, but the ones she used are nice also.
There are three 'super-smooth' songs released this year that calm me, Lizzie: "No Lie" by Lalah Hathaway "Beautiful Fools" by Jo Harrop "Beijo/Sun Goddess" by September In The Park Please have the best possible summer for you and 'The Stuffed Animal Squad', Lizzie.
DARKEST SONGS OF ALL TIME --Last kiss by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers --you will cry. It came out in 1964. One Tin Soldier by Coven, released in 1969. It was part of the music to the movie Billy Jack.(great movie). In the Year 2525 by Zager and Evans -the, or one of the most chilling songs you will ever hear. Describes a terrifying future. Came out in 1969. Eve of Destruction, by Barry Maguire, came out in 1965--about the Times -Vietnam and the Civil Rights movement. Did I miss any ?
Karen Carpenter has such a unique and beautiful voice! Two other very popular and beautiful songs of theirs are “Superstar” and “Goodbye to Love”, both of which I think you would enjoy ❤
I really enjoyed seeing your reaction to this as you were listening. You obviously were really into the music and getting the vibe. I've been a Carpenters fan since their very first release and it is a pleasure to see people "Get It". Look up Tori Holub. She covers a lot of Carpenters music as well as others. She is young and coming up with amazing talent.
Do a search on "Tin Pan South Rainy Days & Mondays" for some historical background on this song. Williams a struggling contract song lyricist of many 70-80's hits tells a sentimental heart felt story and performance. President of ASCAP in his later years.
I don't know if any one can say who has the greatest voice. I remember it was always Aretha, then Whitney came along... they are all great. Karen Carpenter, to me, is somewhat haunting in how she can make people melancholy. btw, your eye makeup is about the best I've ever seen.
Karen was a good drummer, but she didn't play on most of their studio sessions. In this song, Hal Blaine was playing drums. The Carpenters used the famous "Wrecking Crew" of LA studio musicians that included Glen Campbell for a while. Hal Blaine played on in the vicinity of 35,000 sessions. Karen could have played, but she certainly wouldn't have played during the recording of her voice, because the drums would bleed into her voical mike. She would be in a separate vocal booth during the recordings which in those days were played live - i.e. everyone playing at the same time. That is as opposed to today where most records are recorded by different players in different locations at different times overdubbing their parts. Karen did play in their live performances for some of the songs, but when she came out front to sing (which she hated to do) the backup drummer was no other than Cubby O'Brien who was "Cubby" on the original Mickey Mouse Club who used to bang everything with drum sticks.
One of the coolest reactors I know listening to one of the coolest voices ever take care of yourself we will always be here waiting patiently thank you❤😎
One of the best female voices ever. In my personal opinion the 70s is the best decade of music hands down.
The 70's were unforgettable, the song still sounds wonderful to this day !
She’s playing her beloved drums here too!
50 years ago and still nobody has ever sounded as good.
her voice so haunting and gorgeous 💔
Her vocal control is phenomenal
A reviewer with Rolling Stone once said "Karen Carpenter's voice is like the sound of a lover whispering in your ear." I still get chills when I hear her singing, and I graduated high school in 1978.
I completely agree with you -- and class of '77 for me. 🙂
Same! Also 1978 and could listen to her all day long 💕

When Karen Carpenter passed away it was end of an era but the music of the Carpenters keeps on going rip Karen Carpenter
She was known by all studio's as one take karen ,as she was always spot on and crystal clear !

very well said!
The terrible US! Trump!!!
Above, I meant Trump's great!! And going to win !!
her voice in "A Song For You" (actually Leon Russell's song) really shines through
Arguably the best voice in popular music history ❤
No argument from me. 👍

RIP KAREN. She had such a clear beautiful voice. Check out "we've only just begun." It was played at countless weddings in the 70s and 80s.
