I love my little boys. A couple of months ago I decided to get the boys new bikes after looking on the used market for about 2 months. Used 50s and 65s around here tend to be hammered since many dads have their boys racing them in hopes that they will be the next Eli Tomac or something. Since there are really limited options in the 50cc and 65cc range, we ended up with vastly overpriced KTMs. Yes, I said it, KTMs are over priced, when talking about these small bikes. I just wish there were more options. I know that I’ll be able to see these bikes for a decent amount when we are done with them to get some of my money back, so there is the silver lining.
The boys just got to the point where the suspension on the Honda CRF50s wasn’t cutting it. I watched them crash a few times because the suspension couldn’t hold up to the speeds they were going. We aren’t racers in my family, but there is something to be said about the way these “race bike” handle the bumps, chop, and whoops. There is just nothing like it.
Konnor is doing really well on the 65, but if I’m honest Kase is struggling a little bit on the 50 when it gets steep. He’s just not confident enough to keep the bike in the power band, and I can’t say that I blame him. It will take some time. We don’t get out to ride nearly as often as I’d like since we are so busy with everything else going on in our lives.

I never post, but I love these kid videos. I'm almost in the exact same boat as you are Kyle. My 9 year old daughter has been on a ttr90 and i just picked up a kx60 for her so this video has the perfect title for me and my kids. Thanks so much for taking the time to do videos of your kids and their growth. I had my 9 year old watch this video and hopefully she'll "Trust Dad" and know that "The bike can do it, and so can she"
Great video, this brings back a lot of great memories of my three Sons when they started to ride in the early 70s I am 73 years old and I still ride my dirtbike every chance I get.
Well done I use to ride loads of Mx bikes and road bikes my son had quads since he was 4 but 2 year ago I bought him a 2008 fully rebuilt 08 Ktm 65 and boy dose he love that pull from the power band he always makes sure to warm it up probably cos we prefer a forged pistons single ring and it takes more time to get the piston to expand than haven a cast piston he wants a kx 100 or a Ktm 85 big weel the bike I bought was raced but it was took care of like a baby every 50 hours new piston and there was only 40 hours on the bottom end when I bought it some field bikss are usually neglected I love Ktm tho
Wow i must say that you are one real good dad! You have great kids and they have a great dad. Keep it like that. Awesome video i really enjoyed.
I was going to comment the same thing. He teaches his kids they can do anything like when he made him try the hill again. It teaches them not to be pussies in the future
Will570 I agree. Its the best thing a dad can teach his children.
Thank you for the kind words.
That is the idea.
Number 1 ohh yeah really nice dude and a great teacher
I just dropped the hammer on 2 TT-R's, a 125 for my 12yr old and a 230 for me, and I have a few extra pennies in my pocket and if my 8yr old daughter wants I will get her a CRF50 or a TT-R50. I hope to have the same adventures with my kids on bikes out on the trails as well. You sir are an awesome dad!!
That's the #1 thing about dirt biking right there... So much fun watching your kids take to it. Tough love & perseverance sometimes is needed to make them realize their full potential when they have that much bike under them.
Great job Kyle, proud dad moment for sure!
Thanks brother.
I am still semi new to riding because my family could never afford a bike for me after I outgrew my 50cc polini and now that I have a bike I don't have much time to ride and I think if I hadn't started watching your videos I wouldn't have the confidence that I do have after maybe only riding that bike 8-12 times in the last 3 years I've been on it. Just the fact of being able to watch a good example of how you should ride in first person has helped me a lot. Thanks! Keep up the good videos and training your sons
You're an awesome dad man, this is the only reason that I would ever want to have kids. Having fun with them doing something that I'm so passionate about.
I love seeing the video with kids learning as a dad with younger kids i can appreciate this
It's awesome seeing you with your kids and teaching them to get back on the horse when you get thrown off. It's a lesson that applies to a lot more than dirt bikes
This whole thing made my heart happy. I love it. And also the little review on the bikes.
I can't show my wife this! She'll want kids after!! You're great dad killing it man!! Your kids will be so quick when they are in their teens!!
Kyle this video hits home with me to a t. I have been trail riding with my son (6) and his crf50. He dumps it over just about every rut or big rocks. And then I have to set down my YZ250f and help him. Then it’s back up with my bike and have to kick it a bunch. By the time we get going again, he goes down again a few feet later and we start the process again. Bottom line I need to trade in the 250f for a 250fx with a kickstand and electric start. Lol.
Yz 450 is a bloody good bike and I’m only a small skinny whippet and thought she handled amazing. I like the old cr 250 2 strokes tho.
Shame
Great parenting Dad, mum probably doesnt agree yet but she will when his confidence is shining.
Your such a great dad , helping your son out and buying them bikes
Hey man, my dad raised me the same way and I look back and I am so thankful! Also the little bikes are fun! I just picked up a cr125 for riding around and it's so fun and light!
You are an awesome dad! I wish i had that when I was young. Keep them posting.
That’s proud dad moment was everything
What a wonderful video! Wish I would have started out on a KTM! Dad you rock!👍
Riding with the lil guys is great times! Great vid.
Thats so awesome brother, i rode with my boys now im getting close to riding with my grandson! Thats what life is about...
This brings back memories of last year when it was fall and I just got my ttr 125 le and rode the trails with my dad and brother. Now I go to the track every weekend and want to get a kx100
Very cool, father son, video! Love the channel!
Awesome video. I taught both my son and daughter to ride, as well as many of their friends. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.
U r a great dad make more kid videos
Make so more
Great vid man love these keep up the awesome work👍
Your a great dad. My son started on a brand new pw50 at age 3. Then he moved up to a klx110 it was a new bike also. This spring I bought him a 03 kx125. If I had it to do over I would have just bought used bikes in those growing years. But o well it's been fun either way.
This Video Was Great To Watch Lil Guys Did Awesome 🤙🏾
impressive!!! i like that you go with your kids as well. it is a hell of a fun. wish i could go with you as well
Love watching you're videos when you ride with you're kids
Just got my boy an sx50 mini for his 6th bday. The sx was really tall for him. Great bike, hes learning to. Some tears and frustration but gets better every time.
Kyle, that 150 is going to be so rich lol. They come stupendously rich, and your elevation won’t help either. Some dealers are sorting out the jetting issues, others are leaving them stock. If I recall correctly, a family member of mine settled on a 470 main, 42 pilot, and needle in top position. The stock reed valves are often sealing poorly off the showroom also. They also produce a lot of drivetrain chatter. Aside from very fixable quirks, everyone I know says it’s the most fun bike they’ve ridden.
I didn't even ride it before leaning out the fuel air mixture.
Awesome video! I have been having fun getting my daughters out on their ttr 110 this year. I would love to see a video of what you do gear wise for cold weather riding.
One of your best vids Kyle!!!
So nice and open over there, in guess you could easily see a rider coming the opposite way. I ride with my 5 1/2 year here in Australia but struggle to find safe single trail to ride. (He's on a KTM 50)
I love the vids with the kids. Mine is almost 4 and I cannot wait to get him a bike
Awesome video!!! Looks like Bear Lake. If so, maybe we'll see you on the trails someday.
Great vid.... I wish i was ridding that young.
Awsome vidio man i love riding with my kids also
Great Video....more video of your kids riding would be great. I believe I am going to buy my 7 year old a KTM50jr for next year. Your right, there are not a lot of options for kids...be great to see you do some reviews on them as well. Keep up the great videos!
The KX 65, 85 and 100 work well for kids too... Had a fleet at one time when the kids were little. One grandson is still on a KX100. Sold the rest of these little 2 strokes.
awsome video man! the lil dude ripps
Good job with the boys. Two things that are hard for kids is learning clutch control and keeping their feet on the pegs. They eventually get it. When they do, see ya dad.........
Loved the video .
My idea of being a responsible parent is to build safe jumps . Man, you will blink and they 'll be on 250s. I have such good memories of Saturday ride trips with my sons.
I used to tell my kids, hit that hill!! There's kids in China that would love to have a hill like that!
My three year old has a JR 50 , learning how to use the throttle etc, I can't wait for the day I can go riding with my son out in the west desert of Utah
Thats awesome,
My nephew saw you guys ride past his house when you were heading up. he's the last house on your right as you leave the neighborhood onto the dirt road. Unfortunately he's in a cast and probably done for the year after a crash up AF.
Those boys of your are gonna be eating your lunch in a couple years!! Great stuff!!
Minute 3" -- > 6" very very very familiar to me :D
My kid rides without trainning wheels since maybe 4.5 years old. Kids learn so fast!!!!!
Good shit man!!!
Good to know new bikes are a struggle for everyone. I went from a small 125 to a crf 230 and definitely struggle and crashed quite a bit my first time out.
Awesome video
Awesome parenting skills👍👍👍
Hey Kyle, Do you still have your Konnor on that 65? How's he fit? Still have my soon to be 11 year old riding a crf50 (looks like me on a 110 lol) and trying to decide whether a 65 or an 85 is the right move. Definitely skilled enough for more bike.
Great Job Kyle!!! Raising MEN!!!
Go on young fella amazing bit of luck when he is older he’ll be doing the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 TT racers. Iv just got my daughter her first ktm 65 sx she is 11. I had a quad bike years ago and she was nuts on it hitting jumps flat out down hill laughing her head of she loved it. And with a bit of luck she will be doing the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 TT race track like her dad. Your a good dad mate an I new your young lad would fly up that hill. Good man
My 3 sons rode:
- crf 50's from 5-8 years old
- crf 70's from 9-10 years old
- crf 80's from 11 -12 years old
- ttr 125 le 13-14 years old
Oldest is 14 now and wish there was better small bike options. We ride tight trails in the northeast and the 4 strokes with bad suspension but the right power band - 2 stroke minis are light with great suspension but can be a handful (read not always fun) in tight conditions. I wish KTM would reintroduce an updated version of their 2stroke mini enduros.
Michael X Wtf?!😂he was 14 riding a TTR125?! When I was 14 I was already on my dads CRF450r.
Michael X get that kid on a yz250, and sell that little ttr
Hey kyle great video, my daughter has a ttr50 that she has outgrown and i have a trade on the table for a 65sx, do you think that would be a better option then a ttr110 thats basically automatic and a 4 stroke for the trails? And y did you choose to go with the 65sx for conner? I know conner is big now but my daughter is 9 now as he was in the video?
Great man
The kids look like there doing great! My boy is 5 and loves his Ktm 50
Great job Connor
he is doing awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! and those bikes are great
They are doing great. i had a kx65 when I was a kid the 65s are great bikes for that age
Good video man kids will grow to be great forever riders now it's in there blood haha
Wonderful. My boys ages 6 and 9 are currently on a PW50 and a CRF50 and its time for at least one of them if not both to step up. Thinking used Kx65 to save a litle cash but really want them focus on ridding so the 50SX and 50SXmini is the way to go but that a lot of $.. Great vid
What are some tips and tricks on how to teach them a clutch? And how to shift?
awesome video! you gained a new sub :D
Glad someone finally mentioned the price factor with the KTMs . I wAs beginning to think I was just too broke to ride.haha
Awesome video👌✌️
You don't realize just how good the kids have it with these new minis. When My dad was teaching me how to ride there were only the yzinger 50 and jr 50. The next step up was the 80s and when you're going from the zinger to an 80 that's just too big of a jump when your little.
yea 80s and 85s are a really big step up from a 50. hell 85s still move me fast as fuck but not like my kx250
One thing that turned me away from riding when I was young. Was my dad being so frustrated as to why I couldn't ride a 65. When I was comfortable riding the Crf80 he would throw his helmet at the car and scream at me "its only Fucking Powerband stay in it" and that was my 8th birthday present I had rode it for 1 week. And it made me scared of riding he would slam my bike onto the ground saying "you dont wanna ride it anymore here" and he would pick up my bike and slam it onto the asphalt where we parked the car. And almost every time I was in tears coming home from riding.
This whole video just screams dad goals!
Great climb at 5:20min!!! :D
👍🏼👍🏼that's what it's all about kids rock 🤘🏼
What’s a good first bike for a 10 year old boy who is normal height, a bit on the light side weight wise??
Me and my 3 yr old are riding our Honda 50 by our house. I live in the woods so pretty much out the front door. Can't wait for him to start riding on his own. Just a little more time with the gas an brake and he will be off.
Great job giving your kids good equipment even though it is costly
Wun fiddy exy dubya wooooooohoooooo! Alot more capable than you think kyle
Man I remember when I was a youngster they had the Yamaha PW 50's. These KTMs look like they're way more advanced and more like the big bikes.
That little kid is a champ he took like it was nothing
At what level is the clutch set on the 50?
I wish Scotland had such places to ride so freely.
XR100r & XR80r has about the same seat height as the 65SX and are awesome bikes. They can all be found for around the same price as the 50cc bikes as well.
Hope I can have kids one day (single right now). Love this channel.
What weight and height is your kid on the 65 at the time of this video?
Awesome Dad and ur boys ride very well. My 6yr old just upgraded from a pw50 to a ttr50. Next I want him on a 65 but his still way too short. Really wish there was a in between option. The pw50 has rubbish suspension and really a pathway bike and the ttr is only a tad better. Really need better suspension!
Now this is a SOLID DAD
Can you please tell me where you’re riding?? I’m in stupid anti-single track Az. We have some but not much. Looks like fun and easy trails for kids my boy would love that.
Do a video about tips for riding 50cc - 100cc bike
And the 65 he was doing great on that clutch for such a short time on it
You're a great dad!
When kids are pursuing an interest (this is true of adults too) when they are honing their skills they really should be in a constant state of growing (learning) pains. I grew up playing violin and my teacher always said that if my practice sounded good it was because I wasn't challenging myself. By virtue of the process of skill acquisition, many mistakes have to be made, to achieve mastery.
they should make an enduro race bike for the kids. it would really help them doing these things.
I wish I could do the cluch as good
hey kyle or anyone reading this i need some help is it ok to buy a raced ktm 85????
Hey, where do you ride ? And great video by the way😃
Very good
Hi Kyle, I really liked the way you handled it when you younger boy fell and got upset. You encouraged him, didn't give him time to "feel sorry for himself" and thanks to that, he was able to do it!! It's for sure the example I want to follow with my kids. Great job!!
My oldest son (Marco) just turned Six years old and is 49 inches tall; he has never been on a motorcycle before…and my wife and I are thinking of getting him a KTM 50SX….do you think the 50SX might be too much of a bike for Marco? The initial idea is not to get him in to motocross racing, just easy trail riding with me and my wife.
Thank you,
Alessandro
Dad rocks!!!!!!
Wow what a great dad at 4:30
Thank you.
ive only had second hand bikes but they're jyst as good I started on an 07 crf80 and now I ride an 2012 yz85 and its so much nicer for jumps and the stuff I do now
So does it take to have 65 does it smell
very true, there are no other options for a bigger 50 other than cobra the husky 50 and 65 which are basically ktms. it would be rad if the Japanese companies would make a competitive 50, they would sell a bunch of them that's for sure
