    Comparing my two most favorite airlines in the world isn't easy. Asiana Airlines A380 business class and Korean Air A380 business class are easily two of the best premium airline products in the sky, and in this video I attempt to try and pick a winner (based on my own experience flying both between LAX and ICN).
    Which would you choose?

    Scott, when you get the opportunity, try out Korean Air's 777-300ER business class product. The new "prestige suite" seat is awesome. It has tons of privacy and space. I didn't know they still had the old seats on the A380. I've only seen those on their older 777s and A330s on shorter regional flights within Asia. I'm surprised they keep them on long haul.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, I’m looking forward to trying it! I’ve heard so many good things about those seats and they need to find a way to get them in every aircraft IMHO. It’s a shame that the A380 is stuck with the recliners!

    • @hanj31
      @hanj31 5 лет назад +1

      They I believe put out the new business class seats after the A380 came out so we’ll have to wait for them to slowly upgrade the A380 planes.

    • @hanj31
      @hanj31 5 лет назад +1

      SANspotter if you’re lucky you might get those new business class seats flying from SF. LAX is unfortunately stuck with the A380 jumbo jets because the high traffic on this route. Korean air has to put the large planes on this route because of the high demand considering that most of the Korean population lives in and around Los Angeles

    • @kkjay77
      @kkjay77 5 лет назад +1

      If flying business class to Seoul on Korean carriers, KE 748 UD is the way to fly, especially the window seat. Tons of place to put your stuff thanks to the storage bin next to you, and if you raise the partition, it’s almost like the you are in the business class suite seat. Very preferable over 77W.

    FYI, the pronunciation of Asiana is actually neither of the two options you gave/used. The closest English-speakers can get is "Ah-shee-an-na". The 's' is not a 'zh' or an 's' sound it's a 'sh' sound. You can hear them pronounce it as such on their safety videos as well.

    Since Sanspotter forgot I'll mention it :D. Last year on his Korean Air A380 Flight his aircraft was recording a ground speed of 730mph. To me regardless of the seat and the food and the service I would like to know which airline provides something that will keep me entertained for a few hours at least on a long haul flight? You didn’t miss anything - I just totally forgot to include it. 😆 You’re right though, it is important - and thinking back on my experiences, I’d say that Asiana would win that category as well due to the fact that there were more Hollywood movies to choose from (past and present). I can totally see how those in Asia might prefer the dominantly Asian titles on KE, but my personal preference would be the more diverse entertainment catalog that Asiana features. 8 to 6 Asiana. 😄

The privacy of the business widow seat and direct access for all is the deal maker, Asiana business class is a lot better than the first class on some other carriers. Asiana‘s first class, now called business suite ,is outstanding too, it not might be all shiny but the suites have total privacy and are very,very quiet, you never get disturbed by passengers from other classes deciding to stroll through. I could never fly Korean air ,knowing about how they treat their staff and all their other scandals.

    My take on the matter: The Asiana business class seats don't seem so private, particularly compared to the Delta One suite, but the Korean Air seats have even less privacy, even with the divider. If I am traveling with a partner I'm partial towards Korean Air, however, simply because you can easily speak to the person sitting next to you... (Or smooch... *lenny*)
    Apparently, there is a fiasco going on at Asiana regarding food, since the head chef of their catering company died and nobody knows what to do with this now. They are still making food, but it isn't so great. They had to not serve food on all of their flights for some time. (I don't know how true this one is, I heard it from a friend who frequently flies on Korean Air's business class)
    I use so many devices, so Korean Air is definitely a must for me. I use my video camera in-flight, whether I'm taking pictures of planes, filming the departure, or filming other planes in landing. I need a place to charge the camera while I sleep. I also use a tablet/phone in-flight, and the phone runs out of battery quickly. If I'm being productive, I use a laptop and get some work done there. You can't have this many devices up and running on Asiana's layout.
    Cabin crew varies from flight to flight, you really can't define an airline by their cabin crew since you will have a different crew for each flight! You keep hearing all of these disastrous stories about United's cabin crew, particularly with that doctor fiasco, (Which, by the way, he was kicked out by the Dallas police and NOT United themselves, but United took it upon themselves to take responsibility, which I think was very noble of them, although they could have very well done it to get rid of bad publicity.) but when I flew on United, I had a pleasant experience. I asked the flight attendant where we were, she didn't know, so she asked the pilot, he said we were over Arizona, and everyone really communicated well and were very friendly.
    The plane itself is amazing. I love the A380, it is my 4th favorite aircraft behind the A350, 777-300ER, and A330 family. It has a tremendous safety record and many airlines treat it well. I am disappointed by the fact that no American carrier operates the A380, although I do understand that the demand simply doesn't warrant the need for the A380 just yet. However, the Asian market is skyrocketing in terms of tourism, so I would not be surprised if more and more carriers from Asia started ordering the A380. We already have both South Korean carriers, China Southern, ANA, Thai Airways, Malaysian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and more, particularly in the Middle East. Carriers are not purchasing as many A380s as Airbus may like, so I also would not be surprised if the A380 stops in terms of production. I do love seeing a true double-decker in our skies, and I will be disappointed, if not stricken, to see it go.
    I cannot give a definitive answer here, since I have not flown on either one of them. I really enjoyed this video, please don't stop these comparison videos!

      Wow, I think I need to give you an award of some kind for the longest ever comment on one of my videos. 😆👏🏻 Thanks for taking the time to wrote all that out - I actually had no idea about the food situation going on at Asiana right now, and if it’s really true, it’s really unfortunate. They are (were?) one of the best in this category so hopefully they can get everything sorted out. And you’re totally right - every cabin crew is different, so no two flights are exactly the same. The fact that I’ve only been on Korean Air *once* made me think twice about even making this video 😅, but based on conversations I’ve had with others my one experience was typical. And I agree that there needs to be more A380s in this world!

    I completely agree about the language barrier on Korean Air. I've had flights where I couldn't even make sense of the in-flight announcements on Korean Air. Plus, all of the members of the veritable dynasty that controls Korean Air (the Jo family) seem to be raging maniacs. To be fair, the chairman of Asiana's parent company has turned out to be a pretty serious egomanic and nutjob himself, but reportedly things are a bit more sane on Asiana's side. Refer to this news clip showing footing of the wife of Korean Air's chairman Jo abusing company employees. Amazing thing is, she's just 'the chairman's wife.' No standing whatsoever in the company - and she does that. Apparently there was a whole lot of smuggling going on through Korean Air cargo and a royal amount of embezzlement too - like the chairman's family always flying first class for free. Once the Jo family has been thoroughly investigate and properly brought to justice then I'd side with Korean Air for having a younger fleet and a brilliant terminal at RKSI.

    Hi Scott,
    I am your "believer"...What?? Well, I haven`t flown these two carriers before. So I do trust you!
    Please keep one thing in mind though. You should always present A) on the menucard or B) "live" on the traytable. the Western meals.
    It is for both airlines easy to cook up their Asian favorites
    The challenge for them however are always the Western options!!!!
    Hopefully you will let me bring back some of my memories.
    T.W.A. offered on the Munich/Frankfurt B-747s to JFK as the second meal the GERMAN PICKNICK.
    Composed of Weißwurst with Hefeweizen and Bratwurst, Sauerkraut and Bretzeln( Please use the "B" instead of the "P".
    Remebering this I always keep in my heart how good we really were.
    Hopefully you do not mind when I am sometimes opening up the scrapbook of my airline career.
    Not to forget . YOU ARE OPERATING BY FAR THE BEST "TRAVEL CHANNEL" WORLDWIDE.
    Drop dead...and there is really excellent competion out there. And I am also thankful for their contributions.
    A pitty that we didn`t ride the CONCORDE together the ultimate trust me.So, Claus behave and shut up.
    Thank you Scott!!!!!!!!!

Oh well - even if nobody watches, I still enjoy the process of creating these videos. It’s really fun! And I always look forward to your aviation “memories”! I am somewhat fascinated with the history of air travel so it’s neat to read about how things used to be. So please - keep it coming! 😎💭✈️
