The Sand dunes in Dune and idea for the books, came to Frank Hurbert when he was doing a paper on the Oregon Sand Dunes, which are rare wet sand dunes.
I would highly recommend the book series. Really good, easy to read. Really nice staged universe.

I am slightly familiar with the Dune franchise, I think. Read the 6 original Dune books, think most of the Dune Prequels by his son as well. Watched the David Lynch movie, of course the Danis Villeneuve one too. Watched the two mini-series. Played Dune, Dune II, and this game. Played two of the board games, own one of them. Some day I might even understand the story.

I go through phases like sometimes I have a sci-fi phase other's medieval/historical phase and I was gonna get this game during my last sci-fi phase but my computer died on Xmas. Glad to see you cover this.
I was playing the game since release and was pleasently surprised highly recommend it. Got boring after some time and I went back to EU4 tho
Realtime 4x is such an awesome concept. I always liked the idea of 4x games, but I never got into them because of the turned based system.

I'm sure it's a controversial opinion to many but honestly, I miss the old Dune 2000 game (which was a 3D remake of Dune 2) and its direct sequel Emperor: Battle for Dune... In fact, as a nostalgic fan of these games, I would have been more excited for HD remaster versions of these games or even a sequel to "Battle for Dune" than this 4K RTS game.
But the son of Frank Herbert has been clear on this, either follow faithfully his father's work or go to hell (not his words but that's how it feels to me).
Otherwise, to those who have been hyped for Spice Wars, I wish it will be as good as you hoped.

The first book in the story is excellent. And I remember back in the day I played Dune 2 to hell, it was so good an addictive. And then later Dune 2000.

Hey Ludi got any advice been playing as Timurids mid game and I can form the mughals is it a good idea to do so? I have many many cav units and the Timmys bonus for cav will be gone and many cultures will get unaccepted what do you think?
always form mughals if possible, their ideas are much stronger than timurids. especially their culture assimilation mechanic.
If you control all of a culture group you'll auto accept them as the Mughals. It's a powerful mechanic and doesn't cost any mana to use (outside of coring of course!).
I think the board game would likely still be my favorite dune game, that said might be worth a play.
Haven't tried the board game yet, but will look it up!
@LudietHistoria should play it, he 1970s one, it is super intuitive for those that read the books and tons of player interactions and backstabbing.

yes and no. lets take Freeman - they super cool (worms, spice collectors etc). i mean other factions not that cool (yea they have a little new mechanics but too little for my taste)

It doesnt have good reviews on steam though, I was waiting for it to come out of early access and get positive reviews but that didnt happen
At least one negative review is that house Ecaz is not in the original series, and only things written by Frank Herbert are cannon.

house ordos doesnt exists in canon lore so yea no ordos.

I only recently discovered this game, and I agree it is a fantastic strategy game. I love the systems in this game. The devs certainly had a good feel for the Dune universe when designing this.
I can't wait for the release of the House Vernius of Ix DLC.

I love your EU4/vic3 videos but this one was on a boring side even tho' I'm a big fan of the Dune universe, it does feel like straight up advertising instead of you just playing what you enjoy. Nothing cool about the game was shown in this video, like you built some buildings, pillaged some villages... that's it. Now I wanna read the Dune again though XD
It's really sad. The game was promising but it became just another Netflix adaptation.

As someone pointed out, the Sardaukar were from a jungle planet while Arakis is the opposite and the Fremen's home. Pit two deadly groups from death worlds against each other, one with home field advantage, and the result should be obvious.
So, essentially Total Annihilation, with a Dune twist and better graphics. Got it.

House Ordos was created by westwood it does not exist in the books. But then again the devs in this game took a lot of liberties with the source material...
