Mister Sister was needing rode. I thought I would bring the buffalo in the arena for the first time. Well, that didn’t go as planned but the taxidermist showed up with my deer.

We’ll, that was an exciting episode! Mister Sister was thinking WTF is up with that crazy buffalo 🦬. There were a couple of spots I thought that buffalo had your number. I loved seeing the dogs work and using the drone for some aerial herding. I applaud your philosophy of always ending on a positive note. Those were some impressive mounts.

I gotta say, I was incredibly impressed by how well your dogs worked the buffalo, especially as a team. Takes a lot of courage, patience and finesse to do that without getting horned or trampled. Mister Sister showed a cool head and lot of self-possession, too.
Something that occurred to me, watching this, is that it might be worth finding an old bull that's reasonably pliable and keeping him handy for situations like this. A bull that eases off when you put pressure on them, and knows the drill. You might not have such a candidate handy right now, but if you think it's a decent idea, then keep an eye out. Might be worth using food rewards to train just that specific bull to respond to some kind of signal so that he'll follow you wherever you need his, uh, diplomatic intervention.

This is the best channel I’ve found. You guys are for real. I just don’t understand waiting till the Buffalo are this big an old. You call them calves. I’ve had Buffalo three different times to train horses with. I alway try to start using them as soon as they are weaned. They are small and grow up in tight places. They are good until they get big enough to get ornery. I used to get rid of them after a year or so. Sometimes because they were to mean to handle and sometimes because I didn’t have a horse to work.
What you are doing is my ideal American dream. Keep it up, Please.

Nice bucks, I love the fact you'll mount the sheds. I won't let nobody hunt on my 480 acres.
I don't hunt. My hole family does but I still won't let nobody hunt.
Last buck I shot was when I was 13. Beautiful 12 point. On my wall to this day. To this day I haven't seen a buck that big again. I regret shooting him cause of that.
Hopefully I'll see a buck one day chasing the ladies that size on my property. I'll make sure he stays alive well try.

I've done work on a large ranch in Montana that carries 5000 buffalo. You cannot cowboy buffalo and if the country is open enough several buffalo will group up away from the herd and chase your dogs and kill them. Rope a buffalo around the neck and the rope will crush the large windpipe and the animal will die. Moving large herds of buffalo requires the slow movement behind the animals using 4 wheelers, no dogs, and allow the old lead cow to take the herd in the direction that you are set up for. Nice and easy. Chase the buffalo horseback? Buffalo can run 30 miles without stopping. Can your horse?

Buffalo are uber social. Having one by itself will freak it out, and they are pretty excitable as it is. If the horse goes out the gate, the heifer might follow. If you get another buffalo to show itself by the gate, the heifer will skedaddle real fast.

My only experience herding buffalo comes from herding them with trucks, four wheelers, and utvs with the Nature Conservancy. Other than that it is herding cattle, and with cattle I have learned everything goes to crap when you isolate a cow. Bulls are ok being isolated, Cows and Buffalo. Cows Freak and go into Fight or flight mode, they will knock themselves out trying to escape or stand their ground and start hooking and charging. glad you didn't just let her chase you or the dogs out. Was cool to see your dogs work, I used to train dogs to do that (not on Buffalo though), and it takes tons of training and maintenance. I could see how working a buffalo with a horse could mess his cutting training up. Would like to see him go back to cows and see how he reacts. Are you familiar with the cutting horse Doc Bar?

I know it drives you nuts when ppl criticize what you call them. I could honestly care less what you call them, bison or buffalo; because I know the difference. We were all raised being told they were the same animal, but they're not. And it's ok if you mislabel them. 100% ok.
Forget the keyboard warriors and do your thang Jase. You've got more gumption, know-how and common sense than all of them combined. Much love and support from the West Coast.
edit: And Mister Sister did GREAT imo just coming off recovery and never having dealt with bison before. I thought he did most excellent!
