    My first bike was a 1990 Nighthawk 250 and I loved that damn thing. I would love to have another just for nostalgia. On a 2007 Harley Road king now.

      GeorgeStryker sounds like a solid idea. Hope you didnt wake up any neighbors. Since then I actually changed up the setup cause it was a little bit droney when I would decelerate. Now I have the baffles back on, but I drilled out the center with a 1" holesaw so it just has a hole in the center of it rather than the little tube that runs through it. Still sounds pretty good, I'll do an update video soon

    The baffles are designed to create the proper amount of back pressure to ensure escaping gases do not allow ignited gases or flames to leave the combustion chamber, period. When this happens you have massive heat burning through the exhaust for no reason, increased piston temperatures, increased cylinder head temperature, increased cylinder head valve/valve guides, and seal temperatures, and a whole plethora of problems that will quickly start destroying your engine from the inside out.

    • @justriders1
      @justriders1  5 лет назад +5

      Not sure what engineering science background you have, but I have to imagine that is an extreme case you're explaining there, if there is any truth to it at all. There are probably a million engines running with no baffles at all and not being destroyed.

      @@justriders1 Your actually correct. Engines can actually loose torque with out baffles or mufflers too. Depends on the vehicle. Otherwise opening things up can create small gains. I'm with you I don't like doing a hack job unless theirs a benefit. Noise isn't going to be one.

    Nice video , clean bike looks much newer I thought it was a 2008 model , hope the mod doesn't effect your mpg

    • @justriders1
      @justriders1  9 лет назад +4

      Thanks. It is a bit of a beater bike. I got it pretty cheap, but it definitely cleaned up nice. I haven't got to ride it much since doing this because of the winter, but I also increased the main jet along with the exhaust mod. I am assuming I will lose at least a few mpg. The best part is that this mod is 100% reversible if I don't like it because I just have to rivet the end caps back on.

    • @justriders1

      Carry Smith That was the only thing I wanted.... I also rejetted the carb so that the air/fuel ratio was better. these bikes are very lean from the factory and it really affects the performance. Now I get shit gas mileage for such a small bike, but it can go over 80mph and sounds a lot better

  • @mrbloodandwater2
    @mrbloodandwater2 8 лет назад

    hey, it sounds awesome. I'm planning on doing the same to my bike. When you say "removing the last baffle" do you mean that there is more than one you have to remove? Cause from what I have read on other forums, they only remove the baffle that has rivets on them, yet they don't sound as nice as yours. Any help would be appreciated

    • @justriders1
      @justriders1  8 лет назад +1

      It's just the one from removing the rivets. I don't know why I wrote the last baffle at the time, but I am assuming I just meant the baffle that is located closest to the rear. I do not know if there are more baffles, but it is a possibility. I think the sound difference you are getting is probably the difference in camera/sound quality. Exhausts are so hard to record and actually have a good sound playback from the video. Just go for it, and see what you think!

    How did you put the “cover plate/endcap” back on? Just new rivets?

    • @justriders1
      @justriders1  6 лет назад

      yea you just need to rivet it back on. You can get an inexpensive rivet gun at Harbor Freight, and it comes with an assortment of rivets.

      Good job! Don't forget you might benefit from re-jetting the carb to get a smoother ride and easier starting. That thing would be pretty hard to get warmed up in cool weather.

      Noise can be a good thing on such a quiet bike when there are bad drivers around who don't look for motorcyclists. Loud Pipes Save Lives.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 6 лет назад +2

      It is a VERY quiet bike. I'll come up to deer on the side of the road, and I'm climbing in 3rd and they don't notice me at all, till they see me ten feet from me. If I rode a lot at night on these lonely !mountain roads I'd do it too to warn back the deer and bear.
      I however do like the quiet rumble of stock.

    • @justriders1
      @justriders1  5 лет назад

      It did have a negative impact on performance until the engine warmed up. This should be accompanied by re-tuning the carbs if done the correct way, but not required.

  • @noahcooper2086

    So was it worth it? I'm contemplating

    • @justriders1
      @justriders1  8 лет назад +1

      +Noah Cooper Totally worth it. It was one of many things that I did to the bike while I owned it. I usually like to have a little bit more noise than stock but not so much that it's annoying or waking the neighbors up. I got a lot of compliments on the sound. If you open it up all the way like i did, you can always go back and reinstall the baffles by riveting the plates back on. I ended up reinstalling the plates but cut out the baffles just so the back of the exhaust was still black and the hole was a little smaller. If I still had the bike I would have put in a larger pilot jet along with the larger main jet that I used because sometimes it would be hard to warm up but it would always start and run with the choke no problem.
