A lot of their influences have that same lo-fi "smushed" sound, especially the 60s garage stuff and Ohsees. I dig it personally and think clean production would take the entire soul out of music like this

this was the first song I heard from king gizzard, I heard it from a trailer for a graphic novel about 60s folk horror, it wasn't until maybe a year later after hearing this song that I actually started to explore their discography and it was the greatest thing to ever happened to me. My absolute favorite song on this album for introducing me to my favorite band

I really like this song. It would be awesome if these could get re-recorded. Either way the writing on this album really shines. The mix is experimental underground 60s psych, but the songs are still great

I think the next song thrives in the 60s psych. You’ll like it a lot. It’s so trippy and awesome

This is one of my favorite songs on the album. I got into this album pretty early into my King Gizz journey last year, but thats because I listened in chronological order, and I didn't really care about the mixing and mastering too much as long as I liked the songs. In fact, the noisiness of some of these songs is why I like them, this album was kind of my introduction to noise music as a whole. I think the noisiness works especially well on the studio version of Head On/Pill.
I agree that the mixing and mastering of this album isnt the best. Parts of the album just don't sound the best I think they could. For example, Let Me Mend The Past should've had so much more bass.
Next up is 30 Past 7, whuch was released as a single on July 30th, 7/30, or 30/7 for non-Americans. It's probably one of the best sounding songs on the album.

Definitely a Skater / Bike'n / Surfer vibe. 12Bar Bruise is a similar recording style. Hoping you get around to the Sketches of Burnswick East eventually. It's another chill one, but I think you'll dig it! (one of my Favs) Actually what got me into KingGizz.

Please do the Live at Red Rocks 22’ for “float along-fill your lungs” title track. It does get pretty metal

Yeah early King Gizz was big into the harsh noises and feedback. If you watch really early live performances, Stu would just get on an echo pedal and make crazy squealing noises for way too long. Not sure why he thought anybody would want to hear that lol. I’m glad it’s something they grew out of

I love all of those aspects of early Gizz :)

There is actually a market for stuff like that. A friend of mine who used to be the biggest King Gizzard fan I know wants there to be an album of just that, unironically. They probably heard some early Animal Collective and thought it was cool.

This album is better in context of when it was released. 12 Bar Bruise was technically their first album, and it is ROUGH. Super simple songs, very lofi recording quality, lots of harsh noise, and very repetitive. Float Along is their second “proper” album (their true second album - Eyes Like the Sky - is really weird and more like a side quest than a main album), and Float Along is a huge step forward. While it still sounds pretty rough and raw now, it’s actually a pretty amazing record for how early it was released. If you had only heard their first album, this one would blow your mind!

Eyes like the sky is basically a western audiobook narrated by Amby’s Dad Broderick Smith, Rip

The first and last song on this album are my two favorite songs on the album. Don't know if you plan on doing Eyes Like the Sky but you should definitely check out The God Man's Goat Lust from that album.
