    I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel. I have just acquired an 82 GS550l and am planning out my cafe project. These videos have been invaluable. Thanks for taking the time to share this info with the rest of us.

    I really enjoy your videos, I'm building a cb750 at the moment!
    Did a huge opsie to begin with, I actually cut all the wires - very smart, yes indeed! But hey, now I know I'm capable enough to put it back together and I can read wiring diagrams!
    Guess I won't cut and cables on my next build!

    I've always hated electrics especially these old crap wiring on my GS550, so I decided to create a custom wiring harness from zero. Spent a lot of time (and money) on it but it was a really informative process, and moreover i've got a brand new wiring harness now without periodical malfunctions. Good job, looking forward to the end result!

      +Daniel de Kruijf I am doing a project as well. It's a 1982 Yamaha and I am planing to to a new wire harness as well. But I have no idea how to start. I am planing to buy a M-Unit to replace some of the old stuff + a modern lithium 8 or 12 cells battery + all leds for bulbs + hid headlights. Thinking about to keep the old eletrics like alternator or not. Basicly I am novice on eletrics...What tips can you give me?

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  8 лет назад

      +Aldo Bega The best tip is to keep your old harness as a reference and compare to your wiring diagram. The 8 cell will be fine if you decide on a kick start only but I would recommend a 12 cell if you need a starter motor. Another advice I would give is if you're not comfortable with setting your points and timing I wuld use an electronic ignition. You can change the alternator but it's an expensive job.

    • @aldobega1243
      @aldobega1243 8 лет назад

      +dreegez I really appreciated your help! I will use the starter, so 12 cells will be, thanks! Same for the eletronic ignition. I want to make sure that the eletrics will work always like a modern bike, and have peace of mind. I know that it can be more costly but I will prefer. Another issue is that I don't wanna make mods that envolves a lot of work, so, plug and play will be better...but I'd really like to make my own harness, so will be. Based in all I told you, what parts of the eletric is good to be replaced for modern ones. M-unit I will for sure....but what about the other parts? Can I make a complete new eletric using modern parts? Can this be too expensive? Any ideia of the cost?

    • @vindicatelightheartedapropos
      @vindicatelightheartedapropos 8 лет назад

      +Aldo Bega The easiest way is to find the stock wiring diagram and erase the parts you don't need. I have no idea about M-Unit stuff, because the early gs550 models only features 1 main fuse. Best tip i can give is to post your questions on a forum like dotheton.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  8 лет назад

      +Aldo Bega Of course the M Unit will make things easier for you, If I had the money spare I would have had one, especially to trace your wires, only keep an eye on your wires from the altenator and rectifier, you don't want to toast your battery. But best change all of these along with your ignition coils.

    Hi, I really enjoy your build videos! I'm also in the middle of a GS550 build with a Brat style. You said in one of your last videos that you would do an exhaust shortening. You seem to have done that now and I would really appreciate any video or some sort of tutorial on this matter. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Jimmy

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  8 лет назад +1

      +Jimmy Dressel I'll make a video for you this weekend, the job turned out to be easier than what I was intending to do, which was to shorten the original GS550 silencer, but after cutting off and looking further the old silencer was unpractical and too heavy, so I purchased smaller ones which can be removed completely or the baffle removed, whichever style I prefer. It'll make more sense in the video.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  8 лет назад +4

      +sade I'm not too sure at the moment but it's not been a cheap build, but I could have spent more again, It'll be in the 4 digit numbers, I'll create a video in the end once it's all done to total it all up.

    Hey with that regulator being sealed up under the seat, do you have problems with it overheating? Cause since it has fins I've been told it has to get at least a little bit of airflow across it? Just curious if yours seems fine. Love the build, taking a heap of what looks like scrap and making it back to gold. Good job

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  8 лет назад

      Thanks for your comment, There's a bit of airflow going through it, but they seem ok under the seat. Worst case if it does over heat, you can flip it on the underneath.

      They're not too bad to be honest, safe enough to trust, and probably better quality than the originals felt (but they were about 30 years old)

    Hi great videos can you tell me more about the battery I can't find the clip where you install it. what type is it and where did you get it. thanks

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  8 лет назад

      It's a Ballistic Evo battery, you can find them here.
      www.ballistic-batteries.com not much to see during installation but I will post up a video about testing. They're good batteries but fragile I believe when they're undercharged.

      On this bike I've put it under the seat cowl, you can see it in this video

      @chunkalunka5379 7 лет назад

      For The Bold - dreegez where would you suggest if you don't have a seat cowl, I've seen it under the swing arm before but idk about that

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 лет назад

      You could try under the seat at the from if you have room, depending what bike you have and whether you'll be using a starter or not but you could even go 4 cell, which is half the size. I guess the problem with going too close to the engine is that you'll need to be careful of temperature. Another place I found is under the bike where the center stand is.

    • @chunkalunka5379
      @chunkalunka5379 7 лет назад

      For The Bold - dreegez thanks man, it depends on whether the bike has a kickstart or not, it's hard to find one that does but I'll prob have a electric starter and a 12 cell in pretty necessary for that so idk, I'll get back to you
