    Nice to see the GS again in all its glory. I agree there is no right or wrong way of wrapping an exhaust. I suppose that if you wrap it dry all you really need is good gloves..? Have fun riding it!

    Looks good! Nice to see your GS550 out in the light. I've been following that one for a couple years. You've also stoked my desire to own a CX500 again and I just grabbed a nice example this past weekend. I need to move it 2000 miles to my home, and then will do a video series on replacing the generator/stator.

    Due to budget I will wrap my leg burner exhaust on the Yamaha enduro. Don't have money for custom exhaust. Will change it later when I fell I can make a decent 2 stroke exhaust. Thanks for putting your time in to make these videos.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  6 лет назад

      Agree with that. Custom exhausts are so you expensive and it takes some skill to fabricate a 2 stroke exhaust

    Congrats! The GS is actually my fave bike of yours. I'm just not a big Honda fan. I ended up selling my Yamaha xs850, and moved on to a 1986 BMW K100rt. I like the last video about mixing the bar end mirrors and bar end signals. I might have to steal that! Lol. ;)

      For The Bold - dreegez I do too. Only thing I don't like is the placement of the side stand means if you eliminate the center stand, something I desperately want to do, you are left with that lean that allows a ton of oil to flow to the head and have smoky start ups. I'm planning a side stand swap to the other side. Sure I'll be the odd man out, but I already am. Ol

    Hi there, sorry I don't know your name.
    First I would like to say well done for approaching a build from a not so mechanical view allowing the everyday ordinary Joe like me to feel a bit more confident in even thinking of attempting stuff in the comfort of their garage. Thank you.
    Question on the exhaust wrap. Any reason why you don't take the exhaust out? I would like to install a new exhaust end, I think it would look better if the single pipe would be shorter, can I shorten it or would this compromise some kind of rules and regulations? How short can I go? the pipe original lenght is 700mm and I wanted to cut out about 150mm

    Alright mate, just bought a virago and I'm just about done with getting it working before starting to break it down for the cafe build. any words of advice? (it'll also be a series on my channel, so video tips would be appreciated too!!)

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  6 лет назад +1

      Congrats on the Virago, beautiful bikes, some had starter issues but you can fix that up.
      Other advice I can give is take your time, enjoy it, and don't listen to other people.

    • @fkalrc
      @fkalrc 6 лет назад

      Much appreciated! Trying to fix the starter issue with an extra connection to the negative batt terminal and getting a better ballistic battery, which I've heard helps the gears sync better. Anyways, s always looking forward to more content from you.

    My thoughts on wrapping exhaust: Is it completely wrapped? Is it staying? if the answer to both of these is "yes", then it's done correctly.

    Were did you find your "kick up" pipe for your exhaust? I cannot find anything and if I do, it's usually a 51mm inlet. Looked all over Ebay.

      I guess you could go down in engine size but never up on a different frame. I always wanted to put in a 80s cr500 engine into a CRF 450 frame years ago

      I wish I could get a new exhaust for these but to expensive for the GS at the mo. Yup, CB still coming, and a brand new exhaust for that.

  • @Liamshel

    I've been interesting on wrapping the exhaust on my bike but have read that I can cause a lot of problems. Is this true?

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  6 лет назад

      I've not heard of any performance issues as such, I know they don't preserve a brand new exhaust once you take them off, I only do it if the pipes are ugly

  • @tysvlogs5838

  • @outsidethelines8502
    @outsidethelines8502 6 лет назад

    Does the exhaust wrap have any performance merit? or is it purely aesthetic? It's not to my personal taste but I won't fault anyone for having their own preferences. Congrats on the new addition, are we disclosing gender?

    • @bludmakesgrassgrow
      @bludmakesgrassgrow 6 лет назад

      I've heard it help keep exhaust gases hot, therefore letting them burn completely and exiting the pipe faster.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  6 лет назад

      Thanks. It’s a boy. People do say it enhances it but I think the difference would be so minimal that it wouldn’t be noticed at all. I use it to hide ugly pipes

  • @atkie1
    @atkie1 6 лет назад

    I too am curious as to how much wrap you used. I was going to buy 50ft, but feel I may need 100 now haha. I want tight overlaps

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  6 лет назад

      30 meters in total. 3 packs of 10m but if I'd have bought longer rolls could have got more out

  • @nevido84
    @nevido84 6 лет назад

    hi again =) Are you using stainless steel exhaust? Some say wraps hold moisture and damage the exhaust over time.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  6 лет назад

      Yeah they're not going to keep your exhaust like new underneath, I only use them to hide already ugly exhausts.

    • @theodoremarakas9899
      @theodoremarakas9899 4 года назад

      It does hold moisture, no doubt. I would NEVER wrap an exhaust for a bike parked outdoors and ridden under rain conditions. I would only do it on pipes that will never see the weather elements such as expensive garage queens that rarely see bad weather.

  • @manishbyanjankar8052
    @manishbyanjankar8052 6 лет назад

    Just a curious question. Isn't it quicker to take those exhaust out and wrap it ?

    • @forthebold

      It would be but I have a freshly pressed set of exhaust gasket rings in place

    • @manishbyanjankar8052
      @manishbyanjankar8052 6 лет назад

      James Dimmock most are sold as 30’ or 50’ runs. You can probably get most bikes done with 30’ but some just barely. I’d get 50’

      For The Bold - dreegez oh I'd love to see it bought one for mine but only seen the gs been done. I've got pretty much the same filters as you have. Would you be able to let me know what jets and set up you have just as a little guide. I appreciate it a lot the cx Facebook group is a little hit and miss with these things mostly purists on there. Also congratulations on your new baby my son has been watching all your videos with me and dances to all the music lol he's 15 months.
