I always thought the 2007 movie was more based on the 2003 cartoon than the previous movies

Couple years ago I did a fanfic which continued where TMNT left off. Wrote it as a grand finale to the 90s movie continuity. Simply titled Ninja Turtles, due to the guys now being middle aged, it was set 25 years after the events of TMNT. Lot changed in between. Splinter died of old age, his dojo converted into a shrine honoring him. Leonardo had begun studying the more mystical side of ninjitsu, eager to attain his master's level of spiritual enlightenment. Donatello had sequestered himself inside his workshop, inventing numerous high tech contraptions to be sold anonymously with a bit of assistance from April. Michelangelo had, through use of an elaborate latex disguise courtesy of Donnie, gained a new identity as Peter Eastman, famed comic book writer/artist, a girlfriend named Molly & a pet raven named Klunk. Raphael looked gnarly: scars everywhere, missing left eye, plastic teeth, cybernetic right arm, etc. Years of fighting organized crime having took their toll to say the least. Although still in touch with Leo, Donnie & Mikey April avoided Raph. Lotta resentment towards him, due to her blaming Raph for Casey's death during their final confrontation with the Sicilian mob. The main villain was Oroku Nagi, Shredder's previously unknown younger brother, who'd been plotting in the shadows for years. Goes without saying he assumes The Shredder mantle. Karai & Hun appeared as his lieutenants, the former revealed to be his daughter, thus Oroku Saki's niece in this version. Baxter Stockman was featured too, serving as The Foot's resident gadgeteer in addition to developing a mutagenic formula synthesized from the Ooze saturated blood of Super Shredder's cryogenically preserved cadaver. His first test subjects? A couple thuggish mercenaries named Bebop & Rocksteady...

Mikey Kelley, who voiced Michaelangelo, and Leonardo, voiced by James Arnold Taylor both voiced Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank. Also, did you hear that what Splinter was watching was Gilmore Girls?

This movie makes me appreciate the 2012 series a little more then I already did, with having the Leo and Raph conflict not only resolved rather quickly, but used it as a vehicle for character development in the earlier episodes.
Also about the bit about the movies never really focusing on Donatello or Mikey. They're my two favorite turtles, but I kind of felt like the 2003 and 2012 series kinda put a little _to much_ emphasis on Mikey and Donny respectively. 2003 had the whole arc with Mikey being the most skilled fighter in the multiverse (holy shit) and 2012 had that Donny x April arc that honestly went on to long.

well to be fair, Mikey only won that tournament on a technicality (didn't stop him from bragging about it incessantly though)
as for the Donnie X April thing, I do feel it provided some great comedy and character stuff, though I admit they should have brought it to a proper conclusion

I like to view this movie as a beta version of the 2012 series. It tries a more serious tone along with having comedic moments scattered throughout. But unlike the 2012 series, this movie doesn't do it as good if not good at all. Just my opinion though

When you think about the whole vigilante thing. Leo is also a hypocrite because Raph only knocks out the thugs. Leo at the beginning literally kills some dudes. I mean we don’t see them again or even see them knocked out. Yeah they’re dead.

Okay first of I grew up watching turtles forever, the black betty scene is amazing, I personally think the movie does a good job of portraying the turtles as more mature young adults. Save for Donatello and Leo one because Donatello is smart enough that he should not have to hide behind a screen and should be smart enough to remember a fake name for his job working tech support. and well Leo has not actually matured. Apart from that I like the majority of this film.

Yeah I love this movie so much it’s probably my favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie of all time. It’s just a voice acting the animation in the store uses really awesome but there are some flaws in this movie but mostly everything I display really makes up the flaws in my opinion. The cast is so great and this movie is just awesome it’s 9/10 for me. I totally get these critiques but i love this movie a lot the casting was really especially Chris Evans as Casey Jones & Nolan North as Ralph. This is probably my favorite TMNT movie ive watch.

About focusing on Donnie and Mickey more, didn't the 2nd and third movie already focused more on them? Donnie had this whole, "finding out if they are special" thing throughout the 2nd film and Mickey had some interesting interactions with Mitsu and some drama in the 3rd film. Leo and Raph do get a lot of attention in the films, but they did not seem to overshadow Donnie and Mickey, at least to me.

I kind of liked the portal/monster story, but it just needed to be in a different movie then this one. I get what this movie is trying to do, but fails. It's a fun movie, but as far as Ninja Turtles goes, it falls squarely in a "decent, not great." pile. It's also weird that April's outfit in this movie is EXACTLY Gwen Tennyson's outfit in Alien Force

    "There's 4 turtles. Use them."
I mean, you're not gonna like hearing this, but Don and Mikey HAVE been given some focus in previous movies. Don in Secret of the Ooze and Mikey especially in TMNT3. Just saying.

  • @KingRumar

Late to the show but I am gonna say of all of the turtles, Donatello had the LEAST of everything. Mikey gets jokes in and his moments with the van+skateboard but Donatello?? A couple of remarks toward the others and his 6 second intro.

The audio honestly wasn't that bad. I barely noticed there was a problem. The review itself was really good too. I suggest maybe putting the camera back a bit to position your head at the focus of the shot a bit more. Its also nice to see someone acknowledge the lack of Donatello and Michelangelo; endlessly frustrating.

Thank you. the thing about framing is I do this alone, so doing it consistently is a bit difficult. it also helps me put my mic closer to avoid reverb. But thanks for the pointers.

I watched this movie in theatres when it came out and I loved it then and even today I have a soft spot for it. Cuz i grew up with the early 2000’s ninja turtles and loved those. This movie reminded me of it and so I loved it plus it was just ninja turtles fighting monsters and while now I understand why it’s silly and isn’t really what the turtles are I still like it. Also Captain America voices Casey Jones and that is awesome

My 2nd favorite TMNT Movie next to the 1990 movie!
Loved the animation and fight scenes and the voice acting is great! Mako as Master Splinter FOR THE WIN!
But the plot with the 13 monsters and generals was dumb.

Is the 1990 tmnt movie really that good or is it nostalgia i never seen any of them so can some say if they are good or not. Maybe It's just me but these look like early 90s b movie with tmnt Jim Henson puppets. These looks like better than 3 billboards.

I like the two Ghostbusters and the one Highlander references they made in this film. The film itself is ok I liked the tone the Turtles and the inclusion of Karai. Also why couldn't they say Stone Warriors or Dimension X? What was not good about this film is that it's too fast and with too much dialogue for the length of this film.

This movie has alot of problems, mainly clunky exposition and shit characterization from the antagonists as you mention here. I feel that it's mostly due to the concept being rather broad for a single film, winters being portrayed as an obvious antagonist over the course of a season of television only to be betrayed and to reveal his sympathetic backstory would have been pretty neat.
I also feel like there is an identity crisis going on in this film, in that I mean it was trying to connect to the 2003 series and the original movies, I cant recall April being an archaeologist in any continuity only an antique store owner in 03. It was kind of a soft reboot taking elements from the existing materials but also relying on the audience to have prior knowledge of the franchise, that's the strength of the films setup I feel since you can just connect the dots yourself to any of the established continuities before it really.
The film is still poorly paced and painfully generic but even though the dramatic highpoint of the film (Raph and Leos confrontation on the roof) is really cool for turtles fans it comes of as trite shit to non fans. I kind of wish the whole film was about the turtles having to form an uneasy alliance with the foot to take down a common threat, which was a subplot in the movie but so much other crap was happening. It's not like this is the low point of the franchise or anything but christ what a disappointment overall
