15:00 I think the reason Raph and Casey are keeping their "nightly activities" a secret from April is to do with her wanting Casey and her to settle down and have a more quiet life, which is mentioned by Casey during his rooftop chat with Raph earlier in the movie and foreshadowed earlier with Casey waking up late for picking up April from the docks, likely due to his own "nightly activities" the night prior, hinted at by him with the hockey mask still on his head...

As someone who’s favorite incarnation of the Ninja Turtles is the 2003 cartoon I think this is currently the best Ninja Turtles movie, because in terms of its overall style and tone it felt the most like the 2003 cartoon and thus had the flavor that I liked the most, I also thought the choice to have it be set after they killed Shredder, having the turtles split up and the movie being about them reuniting and becoming the team they used to be once again made it into a much more unique Ninja Turtles movie than what we’ve gotten previously, it wasn’t just another “Stop The Shredder” movie, it gave us something different and I like that, it has its problems like I didn’t find the stone generals particularly interesting as characters, it also has the huge plot hole of if these 13 monsters have been roaming the earth for 3000 years then why are they just now being discovered? Like realistically wouldn’t it have already happened several times by now? But in all honesty for me this movie seems to get better and better every time I watch it, not to point where I’d say it’s a great movie, I don’t think any of the current existing Ninja Turtles movies are, but I do think it’s the best of the bunch

The biggest problem with TMNT 2007 was that they randomly decided to make an original story with a completely unfamiliar group of villains and monsters.
Why they chose to make up some ancient monster story instead of doing Krang and Dimension X, I will never understand.

Casey, April, Splinter, Karai, foot ninja, etc all looked phenomenal as well. Will never forget the legendary fight between Raph & Leo. The dark, mature, grittiness was there. The only thing holding this film back imo are the main villains, they were pretty mid tbh. The ending reference to the older movies was an amazing touch.

To answer your question, sheds on roofs is common in NYC since most people don’t have backyards and don’t want to keep tools in their tiny apartments. Also sometimes sheds are constructed around circuit breakers and vent controls on the roof so they don’t get wet.

Regarding the opening plot narration … I can’t speak for everyone, but I didn’t feel like I couldn’t understand it.. it was just incredibly uninteresting and disconnected from the turtles. You could’ve taken this whole ancient conqueror monster plot and put it in any kids show… Justice League, Gargoyles, Star Wars. It was a paint by numbers cartoon setup.
It wasn’t necessarily a bad movie but the whole thing felt like like a straight to DVD 4 episode Cartoon Network series pilot.

I always find it weird that the Turtles had jobs. They were never interrested in winning money this way but now yes? We never saw a flash-back of Splinter asking them to work or them discussing about that. Apparently, Mikey and Donatello are fine with that idea. I don't understand this part of the movie 🤔😕
The animation still looks good, the action is fun, the music is nice, Casey jones is here and he has a cute friendship with Raph, April can fight but is also kind and loyal, the villain has a unique plan. I like this movie, one of the best animated in this franchise. I never saw Batman vs TMNT but heard it's great. I should watch it sometimes.

The characters need to scream at each other, watch their fighting to get their point across but this movie they didn’t need to do any of that, all we got was just strength hands with tiny. Also tiny amounts of dialogue that did only to improve the scene. I haven’t seen the movie like this in a long time and when you showed me. Just how low the ratings for this movie are I was blown away by how much people hate old movies because that’s my personal theory. It’s just the fact that this is an old movie that this is a forgotten movie no really if this was the movie that was going to come out now in 2023 people would be on this movie like vultures on a corpse

Overall I really like this movie. Everything with the turtles from their design, to their complex relationships, and how they interact with each other was great. The rooftop fight with Leo and Raph... incredible. My nitpicks were that the Turtles designs looked so good that it made the human characters look overly cartoonish. Like the styles didn't mesh. The turtles have so much detail and design and the humans are just flat and simple. And then with all of the lore and the rogue's gallery of villains at their disposal we got this weird, pulled out of nowhere story about monsters and portals and these statue warriors. It felt more like a one off saturday morning cartoon episode. Not bad, just a weird choice.

I see your points and think it's great that this was a version of the turtles you grew up with and will admit that this movie has excellent fights and animation but I feel the story still falls short due to the villains not being memorable or interesting enough to feel their impact along with the highlight of the film being Raph vs Leo lacking weight due to errors in the characters and story; Leo's hatred for the Nightwatcher felt unnatural and forced due to no build up or reason for Leo to hate him especially since Leo did worse against his enemies in his training which gives Leo not much weight in any conflicts with the Nightwatcher or Raph due to him being in the wrong without much to justify it, Raph was better but felt repetitive in his arguments with Leo without much progression until their fight.
This movie has dark elements that can work but I feel they aren't given enough time to breath or develop for the to have weight in comparison to other versions of the turtles especially the darker arcs in the 2003 version which had better characterization and development that made the turtles feel more interesting.

As I got older I could truly appreciate the film’s premise and came to acknowledge like, with everything to exist, it has its flaws. Whenever I’d talk to adults about the film (the only people I knew who happened to watch it) like my uncles, they’d always say it was alright and would move on. I’ve always chalked it up to the appearance of the film itself because it’s not exactly remarkable (art direction vs animation movement itself), but serviceable. It could be the animation, the juggling of different plot points, the difference of characterization compared to previous series, I’m not sure- but I love this movie personally and love knowing that others also enjoy this film :)

I've recently noticed that people who were introduced to this movie after they've firstly watched tmnt versions like rottmnt and bay turtles (2014 and 2016 movies) don't like this 2007 version of turtles, but the ones who were introduced to this movie after they've firstly watched tmnt versions like 1987, 1990 and 2003 series do like this 2007 movie a lot. But that's just the people I've met, not saying everyone is like that, which is really sad cuz this movie was great when it first came out and even introduced its own villains, they're my fav version of turtles too
The behind scenes showed a lot of material that weren't used for the movie which would be a nice add up but as it also said, the movie is focused on turtles mainly so removing them was a better turn. The game was neat too! If anyone remembers it 😅 If only it could've received a sequel but apparently the company bankrupted so they couldn't continue the project
Also, I believe Leo knew about knightwatcher because of April while she was telling him about how his brothers are doing at home and how are things at home too, the fact that the scene where the turtles are on the roof getting 'back in shape' could've originally been just a turtle tag is silly but it would show how rivalry between Leo and Raph was built up even more before their fight scene takes action later on in the movie

  • @Drachenhannes

The reason i dislike this movie is because all turtles are twodimensional caricatures of themselves. I take the 90 Movie for comparison. Mikey was just as serious a character as everyone else. He just likes do goof around a bit more often. The small banter on the phone with the Pizza service. The prank he pulls on Leo in the antique shop. But that's it. He's just a bit goofier than the others. Donnie isn't far behind. Not taking the situation at the campfire serious at first with burning marshmallows in hand. Spitting water in an enemys face. That's the chemistry between Mikey and Donnie in that movie. Both love to goof around together with Mikey just a bit more over the top. In this movie he doesn't get a single scene without a joke. He's clumsy he's way more childish, he can't take anything serious. in the other movie he couldn't deal with loss. He even ignored the topic entirely when Donnie brought it up. And when Splinter is gone it hits him the hardest. Raph had anger issues instead of being a walking one. He had one clash with Leo in the original. That was is. It was a huge fallout over a very serious topic. In this movie he bickers about literally everything. He disagrees just to disagree. Because he's anti.
The characters are so flat in comparison.
I love that movie because it took the characters serious and developed them to be more closely to real people. The CGI movie instead reduces them.

that's a totally fair reason to feel as to why they aren't all they could be. but this movie's problem was being and hour and 30 min long and as a "restart" to the films. as well as only having the one movie come out instead of the 4 that was planned. I think we would have had them as characters have more growth over time, the plan being that we spread it out over the 4 movies so it doesn't feel rushed. but then all of that changed when imagi studios went out of business so they couldn't make those other movies to flesh out everything. but I 100% see your point that they defiantly are more of a caricature of who they are
