    We recently took delivery of a 2020 F-150 Crewcab XLT 2WD with the 5.0 and we love it. The power is there when you need it, gas mileage is right past 23 mpg. I don't have to worry about the turbos giving out or the turbo gaskets leaking since this is a naturally aspirated engine.

    I went to the Ford dealership wanting a simple 2020 model truck. I first tested the XL STX and I was ready to purchase it, and since I was there I decided to take a Lariat for a free joy ride. I ended up purchasing a $54,000 truck lol! Lariat is way nicer and fell in love with it, I told the sales person to shut up and take my money. Don't even look or get into the higher trim trucks, it will slap you in the face.

      Just let your dad drive it with the 5.0. I went truck shopping last week and I’ve driven the dodge, chevy and the Ford.. I liked air three trucks but as far as the pure fun and put a goofy smile on your face, I think you would have to go with the f150. For a pickup, this thing is bad fast. I know most people could care less about that especially at my age, 51, but it is a ton of fun even to a old fart like me. The Dodge and Chevy aren’t slow by any means. Both of them are really nice trucks as well. The interior is beautiful on the Dodge and the Chevy the body over haul they did last year in my opinion is just a great looking truck. Great video sir and btw on different prices in different states, here’s how the prices differ in my state, Mississippi and Texas where you are.. Over there you get a package like the one your driving for 36,000 and the cheapest 5.0 f150xl with 2wd, rubber floor, regular cab , lwb What I just described was the bottom line cheapest truck I could find ant the out the door price for this strip down new truck was 33;699 dollars.

    Seems like a good all around truck. This was good review. Straight forward no fan boying or degrading the vehicle, just facts to help you make your own decision. I appreciate it. Anyone know what the best F-150 will be for a first time buyer that wants a useful family hauler?

    • @christophergoad9854
      @christophergoad9854 4 года назад

      If you just wanted a family hauler, I'd get this STX Package with either the 2.7L V6 or this 5.0L. The 5.0L is a bit overkill for what you're looking for though, so I'd say the 2.7L will give you a great engine, with plenty of payload and power for daily living, with the occasional haul to Goodwill or picking up a dresser. The 2.7L MAY save you a little on gas, if you keep your foot out of it, but you won't get that sound that the 5.0L has. In today's market, you should be able to get the 2.7L STX trim 4x2 for 31k or so, OUT THE DOOR. The 5.0L would be more like 33-34k OUT THE DOOR though.

    Just bought a new 2020 F150 STX 5.0 SUPERCREW 4X4 in Leadfoot Grey for 39k before the extras. I love the V8. Just had my first long trip and averaged 21mpg. At one point on my trip I filled up with 91 and drove on a flat road most of the tank and got up to 28mpg. I am really impressed with this 10-speed transmission! I never thought of V8 could pull those kind of numbers. However on the street daily driving I average about 16 to 18 mpg and the lowest I've averaged driving in sport mode around town is 15 mpg. Love this truck!

    Something else to remember with choosing an engine is the altitude you live in. Here in the mountain west, those turbos are very popular because they make up for the loss of air density at altitude. My brothers 2.7 runs circles around my 5.0 here at 5k above sea level.

    • @surfminion
      @surfminion 4 года назад +1

      Not with the 2018+ Coyote, their pretty damn close at altitude even TFL showed that where it was almost even. Now pre 2018, no doubt, but the changes and PI/DI with the 18+ blocks made a big difference, especially vs the pre 2015 gen which would feel wheezy mid range (had one). Buddy tows in Denver and even went back to the 5.0 from the 3.5 Eco (which was def better at altitude than the 2013 he had). I'm sea level but just went 5.0 on the Platinum, have it on 93 tune right now, just rips. Can't wait to whipple

I got it in 08 with 13K miles for $16,500. It was Ford certified and has served me well it currently has 178K on it. It now has new plugs , coils and thermostat. It accelerates so hard it scares me. One think for me that is a no-no is those damn 20' wheels!...try the same F150 with normal tires and see how much better it rides!
    You are right on about how the Turbo engines run as opposed to the NA engine. I've got the 3.5HO and it drives like a high reving (when needed) diesel..it just keeps pulling. Thanks for the video!.

    THIS would be the truck to get, plain and simple. Don't have to deal with turbochargers failing, or putting a strain on the V6 - there's no replacement for displacement. And I bet the 5.0 V8 can actually get better gas mileage than the V6's because it doesn't have to work as hard.
    Inside, you don't need all those gadgets the top trims offer.
    This F150 would be less expensive to own in the long run if you plan on owning it for more than 5 years.

    I have a 18 F150 4x4 8ft bed W/supercab and the 5.0 ,and hopefully they fixed the vct solenoid chatter in the newer models. Also im not a big fan of the plasma Arc cylinder liners. I know the process is used in the GT350, but I still would prefer traditional cylinder walls. Another thing that I don't like are the plastic oil pan, and transmission pan, so make sure to get the skip plates, especially if you like to take it off road. If you run premium gas (93 where I live) and if you drive it easy, I get about 18 mpg city/hwy. E-85 I end up with 15.5 mpg. Remember this engine has 12 to 1 compression
    and you can tell the difference between 87 vs E-85 fuel. Good video, one of the better reviews, thanks for sharing

    I wish more reviewers would do reviews of the trim levels that most everyday shoppers are going to actually buy.
    Some reviews feature the most expensive and highest trim level that only a small percentage buy in most cases.
    Also give me a true V8 over a turbo V6 in a truck any day. Sure it’s great brand new, but it will be at least another 5 years when we will see the true durability of the turbos. I see that as just another trip to the service department. Great for the dealer, bad for the little guy.

    Ask any Ford Mechanic they will tell you to buy the 5.0 over the eco boost.

    • @bigf1502
      @bigf1502 4 года назад +11

      Hit the ground running ... Pre 2018... maybe. Ecoboosts are great motors, have a ton of torque, and don’t burn oil. Ecoboosts pull hard at low rpm, while the 5.0 pulls hard at higher rpms. For towing, the ecoboost will make towing loads much easier (not saying it will get better fuel mileage, just saying that it will pull the same load at a lower rpm vs a higher rpm, which causes less strain on internal components). Most people hear the letter/number v8, and think to themselves “Reliability, simplicity (non turbo)” without realizing how complex the 5.0 actually is. They are not even close to a LS Pushrod when it comes to simplicity. The gen 2 ecoboosts have dual timing chains, which fixed the chain stretch problem of the gen 1. The gen 2 ecoboosts also have Direct, and Port fuel injection, which also clears up the carbon buildup problem of the Gen1. Install a catch can, and you are good to go with the Gen 2. I am not saying that the ecoboost is a simple setup, but comparatively to the new 5.0, they are equally complex motors. It is all about what you want out of your machine. The video of the mechanics saying “5.0 over eco boost” was pre re design, and was only valid until the 2017 models came out. Anyone that says “supercharge the 5.0 and see what happens” or “Turbo the v8 and see what happens” most likely hasn’t ever done either. It costs 6-10 grand to supercharge or turbo the coyote, just to beat the ecoboost. Throw a 600 dollar tune on both trucks, and the 5.0 doesn’t compete (tune for tune). Can’t touch the sound of the v8 tho. Pros and Cons to both trucks.
