    Another mistake people make is follow trends or buying items “influencers” are buying. Just buy what you like. Back in 2009 I went back and bought all my favorite Vanillas from the show and original sets. Wasn’t worth anything and still isn’t. I have complete sets and those vanillas are STILL my favorite piece of the collection. 🔥🔥🔥

      people who did this in Pokemon and lost thousands deserve it :)
      as for yugioh I think the problem with "influencers" is they open too many packs. they might be able to sell all the singles, but the individual user cannot. the individual can buy old used singles from community groups

      I agree. Right now everyone's going mad for the starlight rares. Personally im not a fan of the foiling, but its hard not to get into the hype. Currently i think the hype is bringing those prices WAY too high. And there are so many of them now! It's almost impossible now to get into as you will never complete the collection. Not untill the prices drops

      Today’s expensive is tomorrow’s dirt cheap.
      The stuff he has certainly didn’t seem dirt cheap at the time he bought it. You can buy and hold sealed boxes of Rarity Collection for $90 right now, hold them for 25 years like Omar did, and you’ll be the guy that people are saying they can never afford to be like you. Collecting is as much an equation of time as it is money, and people today just want to BE who they see on the screen rather than work toward it for decades like those people did.

    These are huge tips and definitely lessons I've learned myself. Once I created a priority purchase list and really dialed in on what I wanted instead of buying anything that caught my eye or literally buying booster boxes from 10 different games, I found much more joy in collecting. It also feels very rewarding to complete a master set or collect all versions of a favorite card. I've fallen victim to hype around a release and bought too soon or gotten fomo and overpaid instead of looking around and waiting. I've learned so much over the years and I recommend to everyone to practice these tips.

    Step 0: don't be in it for the money
    Step 1: be early
    Step 2: If you weren't early, be filthy rich
    Step 3: Buy 100K$ cards first and buy the other ones later (99K usd or less).
    Step 4: Hope the 15 year cardboard mania continues because you just paid 100K on a card.
    Step 5: If prices go down, cope and tell yourself it's not about the money, it's because you loved the anime as a kid.
    Step 6: If you made life changing money because a clown like Logan Paul made a video, ignore step 0.
    Step 7: People realise whatever that price was, was manipulation, and prices dropped. Here you can buy back or double up your collection.
    Step 8: repeat step 6

    Another mistake collectors made was back in 2020 when there was so much free money from PPP loans, stimulus checks, and unemployment that it artificially pumped up the prices of these trading cards. The worst mistake was buying at those times. Seeing as how we are now in a recession and inflation still peaking, I don't see prices stabilizing, but heading further down. So, it would make more sense to buy when the dust settles.

    Ever since April I have been trying to collect one of each quarter century secret rare. This is a much larger and never ending goal based on product relases lol. I have a good amount of them. I want to say I am over half way through. But I realize now a mistake I made was not making this goal into smaller and obtainable goals. I was picking up any and every QCSR from locals. But now focusing on one set of them at a time. I wont move on until I complete one set of them first. I think your advice is solid. I slept on a big ticket item and its gone up to a crazy price. That's why my goals are now broken into smaller and more manageable goals.

    blue eyes for $1000. yeah sure. not a great example considering most collectors on a 200 month budget will never own a near mint blue eyes 1st edition unless its pretty beat up or they save for years and not buy any cards. I dont believe for one second considering how late you got into the game that you dont have a fairly big disposable income. You couldn't achieve the collection you have without a very healthy income. Most average workers in most countries earn enough every year to keep their heads above water particularly if they have a mortgage with the cost of living and they probably only dream about buying cards.

    Fantastic video! Love your Collector's insight.
    As a collector, one thing I regret was selling my big $ cards way too soon, for the low low. 😭 I wish I could turn back time and not sell off my collection back in 2013. But I now know to not sell off big $ cards. 😄 (Curious what my collection items were? All Ghost rares up-to-date as of 2013; Ghost misprint Fusion Rainbow Dragon/E Hero Chaos Neos; Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon (RP02), exodia set, Egyptian God's set.) 😭😭
    One thing I do now is, even if a good monetary offer comes my way, if I pulled the card myself, I'm not going to let it go. For example, I pulled a Starlight I:P from 8 packs. It's currently $800-$900. If someone offered $1k, I'm not going to sell. Reason is b/c I was the one to pull it. My hands touched it first, out of the pack. So, it's got sentimental value. Lol. But that's just my Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG (ninja) way. 😄
    The same goes for a cheaper card. Example: Borrelsword Dragon. I took my bro-in-law to Cybernetic Horizon Sneak Peek and we pulled the best card of the set: Borrelsword Dragon. Even though it was $100+ at one point, I didn't sell b/c it's sentimental and being in the collection for story time with friends/family (who are into YGO) is amazing. 💪😄🔥

    When you were collecting the sets, did you focus on completing one set at a time? Like did you finish all of LOB before moving on to MRD? Or was your focus to buy all the big money cards from each set first before buying the commons?

    • @StrictlySealed
      @StrictlySealed  7 месяцев назад +1

      The biggest cards in the goal. My goal was LOB-AST so I bought all the secrets first + heavy ultras, then went to lower level ultras. Then finished with supers starting with LOB supers. Thanks for viewing the video.

      @@StrictlySealed Thanks for the quick reply man. I was collecting one set at a time, but I think your approach is better now.

    • @StrictlySealed
      @StrictlySealed  7 месяцев назад +1

      That works too in this case as the sets get cheaper and cheaper as you go from set to set. Aside from MFC and IOC that is, I'd try to check those off after MRD/MRL. Wish you luck. Thanks for viewing the videos.

    Pay your debts first, then invest then collect. Having ZERO debt makes life so much easier, so work as hard as possible to get debts paid first. ❤

    If you’re buying high end slabs now, better be wealthy. Cuz you could have got most of these cards under a grand just 5 years ago but didn’t lol. Thinking it’ll just “always go up” or it’s an “investment” is your brain tricking you into stupid financial decisions to justify your nostalgia fix

    Cataloguing is important. I hadn't considered keeping track of prices on a spreadsheet but I did put everything into an app to easily search my whole library on a whim. I should look into the numbers though, great tip.
    Honestly I'm just glad I'm not a completionist when it comes to sets. I stick to my own arbitrary nostalgic categories and create checklists for cards that hold greater sentimental value, or I'm just out to replace things lost/traded during childhood. Having a good condition playset or binder display is enough for me.
    Something I recently took note of is the room conditions in which you store your cards. You want to make sure the room isn't humid to prevent curving over time. I've even heard people have experienced mold on cards which is terrifying to think about as a collector. In some cases where you can't move, a dehumidifier would be a worthwhile investment.

    At the start of this year I decided to collect every single Dark Magician girl card, my monthly budget is maybe 10-20 bucks every and I have mostly been keeping up to date with new DMG cards and buying some of the cheaper older ones. Do you recommend me to save up and go for cards like the MFC and LCYW secret rares first?

    • @StrictlySealed

    If I start collecting again I just buy played cards in first edition from the original sets (LOB-AST) I just pretend it's a psa 10 because fuck grading and fuck those premium prices 😁What's the point if you have to lock them up in a safe at a bank and worry you'll get robbed if you take them out.

    Apollousa and IP are not going to ever go below stardust bud… they’re both generic link monsters that always run around in the meta game. Along side that, the sets they get pulled from are harder to obtain. Just gonna give you a heads up that you’re wrong when it came to that point
