For everyone saying it is common, THIS CLOSE is not common. In fact there is a regulation preventing this. Only after the plane departs can the next one touch down. This is what the ATC intended BUT there was probably a miscalculation which caused this mishap. Please educate yourself before saying "oh it is no issue mumbai busy airport only one runway"
The distance between those planes is just a 2 second gap !! That tailwind from the aircraft in front could easily disrupt the landing of the one behind. All large busy airports do back-2-back take-offs and landings ... very hard on the ATC (how they don't get heart attacks, I'll never understand), but I guess the ATC cut it too close for comfort this time.
This totally mistake of ATC Air traffic control. They must give late landing at least one minute to Indigo flight. It's a clear vision of ATC don't ignore it. Must go for jail.

Even if there is only one runway, they need to maintain predetermined distance between two aircraft. Imagine something like a bird-hit, and the aircraft that was taking off had to abort the takeoff, or the one landing had to go-around for another attempt to land,
Even in the air, planes are not allowed to get so near, unless they are fighter jets where the risk is the pilot's alone and they have accepted it. But, that distance cannot be applied on land as the plane cannot avoid another plane while landing because whatever they do, it will be a mishap. I think in the air, they are asked to maintain 2- 3 km distance and ALL planes will have blinking lights to indicate their presence to avoid clashes. Even altitude rules also apply. Any two commercial flights have to maintain distance both horizontally and altitudinally. On land, there is no chance to escape altitudinally to avoid a clash with another plane.
It’s not common in Mumbai airport..either indigo has touched down late or it was late take off by air India.. it’s never this close..it should be thoroughly investigated
This is quite natural in busy airports but yes the distance could be more rather both pilots should be prepared of diverting in case of an aborting of take off or landing too.
Yes... It is no point to blame each other. Top level investigation has to be conducted soon & immediate precautionary methods should implemented to avoid any type of unfortunate incidents occur jeopardising valuable human lives.
You media people also please don't make anything small to very big in video both of them looking very near but definitely having long gaps between two planes
Brother where are you getting this information from. This is not parallel landing, or take off. And no, ATC charges are devastating for events like these. That includes GVK, and Indian Airport Authority, what misinformation are you spreading man.
That's why Modi ji told Indian media is most biased, you are proving him right isn't it? Making a non issue an issue and an actual issue a non issue is your cup of tea.
Keep editing your comment and keep fellating Nɐpunsɐk Dagabaaz Manushya (NDM). Illiterates are not expected to know how serious such runway incursions can get.
With increased air traffic & unavailability of active runways, ATC might have to cut it fine - is this an incident of professional expertise or social media activism to promote views?
It is not even close. Is is common. I have seen videos. One plane is taking off and other is landing safely. And it is very beautiful view. They are not even racing. In abroad they race together virgin airlines and delta airline but they keep distance in mid air.
Smaller planes come to halt within 1000ft. And bigger planes like A380 travels about 1km. Before coming to halt. So it not an issue. It is quite normal all over the world. And distance between take off and landing is about 2.5 km.
I doubt if you say the same when your family is on that plane. It's never ok to tweak regulations for your comfort. They are there for a reason. If you feel it's unnecessary, raise a dispute, have it discussed with other airlines and authority , then change regulation with appropriate steps. Also saying heavy traffic or a single runway is the worst excuse. Whenever incidents happen they cry fowl. If it's heavy traffic, do we have these kinds of incidents on a daily basis?? Is the Mumbai domestic runway busier than the NYC or LDN / Delhi ?!
It's clear the landing pilot avoided touchdown until the previous aircraft was airborne, then lowered his craft the last thirty meters a little 'hastily'.. else, he would have pushed hard up and move away on the side as recommended. 99/100! .. 1% for the critics!
The Air India aircraft should've been told to hold short of the runway and the Indigo shouldn't have been cleared to land if there was an aircraft on the runway at the same time. The ATC controller is probably the one at fault, because in the video the Air India aircraft rotates right as the Indigo is about to land, meaning they couldn't have rejected takeoff, and the Indigo couldn't go around because of the possibility of a collision.
My first flight to Mumbai by Ethiopian Airlines was delayed for about 20 minutes before clearance was given for landing. The traffic there is indeed very heavy.
For your kind information the rule says "if there is a simultaneous take off and landing between two aircrafts then then plane which is landing can't touch down the runway untill the plane ahed of it takes airborne". And in this case there was a gap between landing and take off .
India banned the use of private monitoring radios which fed livestreams to sites like "LiveATC". Now DGCA will brush aside the whole thing, with neither the ATC nor the crews involved every being fully held accountable. Such things happen in LAX or New York too. But in U.S. they legally permitted the system. That is ATC there is allowed to give landing clearance on an active runway (after departing traffic is already on the take-off roll).
while on Air a 1000 meter distance apart and 500 meter distance on Runway may be sufficient !! This is quite common in all European and American Airports. Nothing to worry as far as the Preceding aircraft on runway isn't stationary at that point of call/incident...
Since the Air India was cleared to enter runway and take off, I suppose that he didn't depart immediately but took some time to perform more checks, meanwhile the ATCO had cleared the Indigo for landing, without realizing the delay of the Indian in the TO. ATCO should have paid more attention, but probably the India pilot had agreed to enter runway and depart immediately. An accident (or a misshap) is rarely the result of a single mistake.
Normally bigger planes requires at least mote than 8000ft runway that is 2.5 km. Runway. So a plane just landing and another one just taking off are 2.5 km apart.
Air travel is now a days risk considering air traffic, weather conditions over burdened airport staff. Over pressure in manufacturing aeroplanes quickly eg. Continues Boeing issues etc
It would be great if it happens with a perfect plan to avoid landing and take off delays... This kind of things are already happening in Europe countries to due yo heavy traffic
Air traffic controllers should be strictly checked for alcohol in there system by using breath analyzers prior to commencing duty. If a air traffic controller comes to duty with a hangover then he is gonna commit such stupid fatal errors!
In the latest week it is the third case registered worldwide. The Great Reset from WEForum and UNO Agenda 2030 in action - must investigate the traffic controllers finances or lifestyle. Kind regards

India is having too many problems relating to air travel..dangerous time for air travel 😢
If everything goes well, it's just ok. If it is rejected, take off, or the other one is to go around, then imagine the catastrophic
A major negligence of duty. The personnel concerned should be dismissed from the service.
This is not normal, very dangerous approach by the ATC and pilots
A go around is the safest way to avoid a collision
Same road traffic formula using our Air traffic in India 😮

Seriously ridiculous. By now in this technical world, such feats should be encouraged.
For you it's new but it's common in many busy airport, some pilots even gets training for parallel landing and take off.
This here has absolutely nothing to do with PARALLEL ! It was only ONE runway.

What if the first plane abort takeoff or second plane needs to takeoff.?
Still first plane gets to end first Or second plane don't use entire runway to come to halt. That's generally the practice brother. Don't worry
