- Since we started filming with James May, Lucy has always wondered how a RUclips shoot compares to a TV shoot. When James told us he would be filming in London with his TV crew of 12 years, we just had to tag along.

@@StreetPreacherr Looks like they used a 'light rain' editing filter on those shots, but that would have covered the whole frame. If you look at another shot from that location where it wasn't raining (8:38, for example), the water still looks disturbed (probably because of the wind), that disturbance along with the damp tables / chairs must have been enough to make the light raindrops filter look believable.

I love how much affection this video quietly conveys between the various participants! And it's great to see Lucy's continuing journey, gradually making connections with professionals on other tiers of the industry. Also with Lucy in front of the camera, now we're left wondering, who is behind the camera shooting her? We need behind the scenes of behind the scenes!

This was super neat to watch. Seeing the differences between RUclips and Film production. All the behind the scenes. What really goes into each shot and more. It's incredible. Thank you for the video

Feels like Lucy joined James on a year in work scheme from Uni and just never left. Eventually she's going to take over from Director Tom
I used to work in video production. I'd say it was between TV and RUclips so we had a crew of 3 to 5 and scripts and call sheets and all that. People say it's a boring day with a lot of repetition but I always enjoyed going along but the 7am calls were not much fun for me either.

I believe the word is petrichor, which wouldn't be a bad name for a poncy Gin.
As for the video, we all know James is James, very watchable, but Lucy's video style drew me in and kept me engaged, spot on.

TV crews can get quite big. We had 7 crew at our 'Amazing Space' when George came to film. The previous visits were 2 or 3 crew. Director, Sound, Camera. Then on the day it was 2 props, 2 on camera, 1 on Sound, 1 runner, 1 director. And a trip to the pub after filming was finished.. Crew love pubs 😂

Crazy to see how much camera, lighting, sound gear and overall equipment and planning go into something so quick (in the final release). Would seem like one would need a LOT of patience to do that kind of work.

Interesting look into an advert production. Amazing how much work goes into a relatively short final product
And there were 2 other street scenes they didn't talk about. Aaaaand, they paid 2 actors to play the barman. The rehearsal actor, and the real actor ? whose hair has gone grey.

Such an interesting thing to witness. I worked in a theater for a while and did stand ins for all the lighting People. Getting one scene could take hours.
Started watching Man Lab Series 3 again last night and will be the next four. Will always enjoy it and the Toy Stories that James made.

The name we are looking for is "Petrichor". Comes from the old greek "petra" for stone and "ichor" for a fluid thats supposed to float in greek gods veins.
Edit: the name is because the smell happens when water falls on the earth and has a reaction with some molekules there. dont ask me the details, am not a chemist.
I believe bacteria are involved in the smell?
It when the earth has been scorched by the sun and heat, and rain lands on it
Ozone is the main smell during/after lightning storm, geosmin is responsible for the smell from rain on earth
Despite my years and years of 'proper' education, I was introduced to that word from the Doctor Who episode "The Doctor's Wife". 😊

Alot of big production companies come to south Africa to film alot of scenes for ads or movies and being an extra on there is usually very fun....very similar to this

Lucy is in a position where she should be both in the regular staff behind the camera at big productions, and in front of the camera. Never seen that before.

I enjoyed this. Lucy is always fun to watch. That rain looks hella fake because the pooling on the table should be showing rain drops.

After watching everything get covered with water, the dry seat that James sits on in the final shot stands out like a sore thumb :D Love it.
Not to mention no rain on the table, just still water XD

I cant unsee the dry patch of pavement in the background when James walks into the pub.
Its interesting to see the diminishing returns once you get to the pointy end of this stuff. As a layman I doubt I'd notice any difference aside for style and yet Lucy and Co. manage to get it done with 1/10th of the gear, 1/5th of the staff and 1/2 the time compared to a fully equipped film crew!
Imtetesting content and it really feels like Lucy is being an apprentice to James 😂
