  • Last Fall we went with a small Finnish team to Seoul in Korea after the World Championships to train with the best poomsae athletes and kickers in the world. Here’s a sneak peek to how the extreme kickers at Mirme train under the guidance of the legend Shin MinCheol. It was truly an honor to train with these beasts! We hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed our training there 🥋

    These is more of cardiovascular, endurance training.
    Muay Thai fighters can easily take down these guys with there sheer full power deadly kicks and punches.

    This is not Tae Kwon Do, well it is certainly not what I was taught from 1971 to 1976 in the RAF UKTA by my master and his master Ki Ha Rhee, this more akin to ballet dancing, acrobatics and gymnastics floor routine. Any competent martial arts competitive fighter would recognize such exaggerated and well flagged flamboyant air display a mile off, move back and wait for the 'dancer' to nearly land and strike with a very simple front kick. The same would be true of any harden street fighter that I witnessed take out very brutally and quickly a young man trying to emulate Bruce Lee in the back streets of London.
    I accept they look very good but more in keeping with trying to emulate fantasy martial arts films when the actor is kept up by wires, but they must take a lot of time and practise to be that 'good', but what for, to show off, get people clapping and be admired. In my opinion a waste of time, far better improving basic TECHNIQUE that General Choi would have been proud of. Certainly not the humble, self-confidence and maturity that greatly changed me and I have been so thankful for the success I have had in my life that Ki Ha Rhee taught me and my RAF mates.
    He was well known in Vietnam for going into the tunnels and dispatching many Vietcong with just his hands and feet, and no way in those tunnels would such acrobatics been any use for him.

      @FOCTaekwondo  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your comment. And the idea of tricking, spinning kicks and demo taekwondo has never been real life situations 😁 It's a fun part of taekwondo that is great for self development and just simply fun to do. It isn't for everyone and doesn't have to be. ☺

    • @longmai9343

      "but what for, to show off, get people clapping and be admired. In my opinion a waste of time". Why do you learn martial art for when you are not fighting people every day? Not even once in 10 years?

    • @wakeupuk3860
      @wakeupuk3860 5 месяцев назад

      A good question which for me personally having often got into trouble at school, a very bad temper and far too emotional over five years in the RAF led me to change for the better. Especially the guidance by my Master, that greatly matured me and without question allowed me to do very well in my life.
      The simple fact of training physically very hard and then under a controlled environment of fighting with the point of landing body blows that did hurt but not intended to maim or kill, meant afterwards in no way did you want to lose your temper, get angry or lose control with someone that was really annoying you.
      After leaving the RAF and living in London, with a girlfriend who used to like to watch me practise, ditched me and called me a coward. As one night I took her hand and we crossed the road so not to walk through about six very drunk and shouting young men. She simply did not get the concept, at my level I no longer had to prove my manliness, especially on the street scrapping with six guys.
      But about 25 years later, when working in Egypt and having to walk to another hotel as the cash machine was empty in my hotel. On the way back, and I expect had been observed taking out my money, found two very dodgy looking characters, smiling and wanting to talk either side to me.
      Seeing the one on my left side, pull a knife from his pocket and his smile go from his face, I did a full turning fist strike right under his nose and then a full reversing elbow strike to the guy on the other side.
      It had been many years since I had done similar with my club mates holding 1" thick boards, but the skills were still there and both dropped to the ground. I, not looking back, ran like hell to my hotel and got the receptionist to book me a flight home.
      So yes, I did not use it in ten years but when I had cause to, I believed it save me life,
      Even just three short periods, each lasting for 3 minutes, requires tactics, observation, pacing, having an objective plus much more than I expect you would want to read. Such skills, certainly served me very well in dealing (not actually fighting) with my tough secondary school pupils, their parents plus very left-wing teachers that allowed me in record time after leaving school with no GCEs in 1969 that in 1992 I became a Deputy Head.
      There is so much, I could write about what learning and practising Martial Arts gave me and seeing the changes in young people who benefitted from doing the same as me. @@longmai9343

    • @wakeupuk3860
      @wakeupuk3860 5 месяцев назад

      A moot point, as all sports have a point, i.e. football, which is to get your ball into the other team's side net. There would be no point to practise and play football, which I did as a kid in a street just for fun, but I know that I and my mates did so, because of the dream that one day at Wembley I would be playing for England or Chelsea and scoring a goal to WIN the game. That is not a moot point, it is the total and whole POINT of leaning and playing football.
      The POINT of TKD is primarily self-defence and I agree it comes with all the other benefits which self development, I could not agree with you more but 'fun' is well down my list in regard to why we practise TKD.
      Because 25 years later in my life, about the age of 51, and very much out of shape, when working in Egypt, two men tried to mug me with knives and thanks to the POINT of learning TKD, I left them both laying on the floor due to a very power right hand twisting punch to one under his nose and as you will well know its follow-on strike, a returning powerful elbow strike to the other one in the face
      I greatly respect your skills that are far higher than mine, but sadly your generation have ,steered, away from the origins of what Grand Master Choi Hong Hi that my master was a student of, initially created.
      It has very much been turned into a 'side show' the sort of thing, seen at a circus and I have to say, with all respect, try to imagine what TKD will be like when you are an old man, with the changes it keeps going through.
      Because even though football players are incredibly rich now, the whole POINT is still to get the ball into the back of the net, and can you honestly say that TKD is still about self-defence.
