considering flying knife is only barely behind drippler crippler's performance and is far easier and more consistent to get its respective enemy, this definitely is a good option.
barely behind? The damage of the drippler crippler was 2.5 - 6+ times the damage of the flying knife in almost all regards, excluding maybe the mechs depending on your playstyle. Don't get me wrong, it's good and easily obtainable, but the drippler crippler is much better.
@williamcox4616 yeah, drippler crippler isn't exactly an easy item to get, I agree about that. You don't have to have used either weapon to see the dps readings in the video though, the difference is night and day
2:50 One thing you can do to increase the accuracy of the flying knife is swing your cursor back and forth in long distances to force the flying knife to turn much quicker than it normally would. This ALSO allows you to fully control which direction the flying knife moves as it oscillates, so there's that for accuracy too
Tip: If you want to get the most single target dps out of this weapon, you can hold it against a wall which will stop it from moving. I found this especially useful against dreadnautalus
Idk if this still works but if you use the flying knife and switch over to the yoyo with a number key you are deploying both of them at the same time. This melts early hardmode bosses and is still useful as a small damage boost for yoyos later.
Socrates, also known as Sockrteez, was a Greek philosopher from Athens who is credited as the founder of Western philosophy and among the first moral philosophers of the ethical tradition of thought.
I never realised the potential of this weapon. I might try to get it in one of these playthroughs. I have a suggestion for your next review, though. Can you review one of deerclops' weapons? Most players skip this boss.
Idk if this still works but what I used to do back then was hold click with the flying knife and switch to a yoyo while still holding causing you to use both of them at the same time, except the downside is you have to redeploy the flying knife when the yoyo returns
Hey sock, you’re killing it man! I have a video idea: if you’re thinking about making some more long-form content, I think a tier list of every terraria weapon would be really cool and I’d be interested to see your takes on certain weapons. You could do multiple parts or something to not have a stupidly long video.
The flying knife was how I would cheese Ice golems for that sweet sweet frost armor. As for mechs, my go to way of beating them in melee playthroughs would likely be just using the night's edge and with the first hallowed bars i get, quickly crafting an excalibur, or shadowflame knife just for the fact that its easier for me to control.
I like this weapon as a utility in my back pocket to attack enemies from around a corner without exposing myself. This is very useful against Moss Hornets in the Underground Jungle.
One thing about the flying knife is there is a way to increase its single target damage, when using it on an enemy close to a wall have it mash itself against the wall and it will deal a lot more damage and get more hits in on the enemy
This thing’s greatest strength is its consistent damage and allowing the player to put more focus on mobility. Combine that with a flask of choice, and it really isn’t a bad weapon at all
Melee is such a weird class for me because, as someone that doesn't play pure class anymore, I notice that it's almost never beneficial to have more than one melee weapon on the hotbar at a time. I'm not saying "don't pure class melee" but if I have two different melee weapons equipped, such as a spear and a boomerang, I always just use one for all of my melee needs. Summoner's also one that I only really use 1 whip for and have other class weps on the other slots, but that's more expected since summon damage leans so much towards "support" rather than main DPS.
I only use flying knife when I'm in my afk farm. You just need a 1 block gap to deal an extra damage aside from lava and dart trap damage. It's hard to use other weapons cause most require 2 block gap.
You can actually use this with other weapons. I like using the flying knife with yoyos, there's no reason not using. Just use it and switch weapon with out releasing mouse 1
Small thing, but I love the joke video titles in your 'subscribe' bit. 'How is it not ranged part 4' is hilarious. It's not a huge deal, but I notice it and it's funny.
a trick i use to defeat biome mimics is to move away from it until it has to fly towards you, allowing you to jump over it without getting hurt. of course, a relatively big space is very helpful. edit: you can use this strat to avoid its annoying moves like hopping and stomping over you, but be careful, if you don't have enough vertical space you might be in trouble, specially in the underground and underworld
Have you talked about the dao of pow yet? Because it's easy to obtain right after wof and melts groups of enemies as well as more takierer ones. It's just not that good against bosses because of its limited range.
Hey this was a really great video btw, I was wondering if you knew anything about the Medusa, Trident, or Hermes boots, because those happen to be Greek god references. I wonder if you ever thought about that every time you picked up Hermes boots🥾
The Flying Knife is easily the worst weapon to be had from any of the biome mimics in my opinion. The best used to be either the Daedalus Stormbow or Fetid Baghnakhs, but after the nerfs those both got (especially the Baghnakhs), I think that one of either the Dart Rifle (Specifically with Cursed Darts), Clinger Staff, or Life Drain holds that title now.
A while ago, me and a friend were playing calamity( I think death mode) and I used it on the destroyer, and it died after like 20 seconds, most of the time was when it took no damage while spawning.
Very informative video i find this weapon to be interesting as its the only melee weapon tha functions this way though i don't play melee much so i haven't gotten to use it more of a summoner really
i feel the magic knife is one of just a random drop you get when trying to get the daedulus
Magic knife? I prefer the flying dagger myself.
lux u need to seriously consider getting a flying dagger cut ur wrists

Bro studied Terraria so much he could survive zombie apocalypse by using Terraria tactics at this point
Socrates, also known as Sockrteez, was a Greek philosopher from Athens who is credited as the founder of Western philosophy and among the first moral philosophers of the ethical tradition of thought.
Imagine having it infinitely follow your cursor that takes up one minion slot.
YESSS!!! This is my favorite pre-mech weapon. It's such a good option and I'm so glad to see it get talked about!
Free Palestine
The weapon is so good, yet I still just forget about it
I’m going to need this in my current meelee run because I’m doing a challenge where I can’t use normal swords and short swords.
If you don't get this weapon, you are SERIOUSLY missing out.
Love ur vids, sock, have a great day :)

another thing that's insane about the flying knife is that you can use it through walls, which is great for farming events!
Today on this video I just realized your username is a play on Socrates
No matter how good it is, I will always get the bananarang
Idk if this still works but what I used to do back then was hold click with the flying knife and switch to a yoyo while still holding causing you to use both of them at the same time, except the downside is you have to redeploy the flying knife when the yoyo returns

I used it in my first playthrough with my brother, helped a lot from queen slime to near end game.
This guy should start making videos about underrated terraria weapons

You were a mere swordsman, then boom: this knife has turned you into Yondu
You didn't mention the ice bow glitch with the flying knife
Forgot to mention that it's a combo weapon, it can stay out while certain others are firing, like the bow from old one's
Got confused, thought this was going to be about the summon dropped by the Queen Slime.

@jansentoreno6409 never said it wasn't, just saying there is a way to get more dos frim the flying one
This thing in caves is a beast, being able to kill enemies behind walls is a godsend.
This thing’s greatest strength is its consistent damage and allowing the player to put more focus on mobility. Combine that with a flask of choice, and it really isn’t a bad weapon at all
I honestly found this thing combined with the nimbus rod to make the destroyer a piece of cake
I always seem to get this weapon in every playthrough other than melee and end up forgetting about it
Can u review the quad barrel shotgun plz

The flying knife racks up an insane amount of dps if uses properly
Can you make a video comparing how useful the three vile thorn weapons are for the stage they are obtained
What I do is use a knight’s edge against the destroyer and then light discs for the other 2. They’re surprisingly effective
Basically a thrower weapon in a melee class.
Wonderful video Socks - Love your channel!

That really tells how you badly designed melee is when it's best option is ranged...
I had a thought, why don’t you include the top modifiers for each weapon in the videos? Would be that cherry on top!
Flying knife is a fun little tool I like using (like yo-yos)and throw them through one block gaps and kill enemies through walls. It’s good
I used this to solo tier 2 old one army

Im starting to wonder if they shoudl just straight up delete the melee class nad add all the weapons to the ranger category.
If every long range weapon was ranged, the entire mage class would become ranged. You see? Your logic is dumb as fuck.
i feel like you should get the flying knife to get the dripler
Will the goat do a calamity weapons commentary?
What is Best Pre-hardmode weapon?
It has to be tin short sword
probably a later prehm weapon, like nights edge as an example
@@ChildDevourer83yeah your right

And destroyer 🌝
i remember using this in my first ever playthrough, abusing its tiny hitbox to hide from enemies

more ranged then the average ranged weapon
