I hope it also gets a damage buff to be honest. I also voted in that poll shown at the start of the video and I was honestly surprised at how many people think true nights edge is the better sword. I thought that it was common knowledge how true Excalibur is better in pretty much almost every way.
I'm currently up to plantera in a calamity playthrough, I can say for certain the true nights edge is not working and it's literally because of how the projectiles work
the true night's edge projectiles for some reason are locked to your character instead of separate from the weapon, so it's harder to aim since you'll make the projectile move away from where you're aiming , not to mention they're slow true excalibur has that close range thing, but in my opinion it'll get the job done better for most things over the true night's edge
I really liked the True Excalibur against Plantera when I tried it, the larger radius of high damage and infinite piercing works really well against Plantera's hooks in the second phase.
That’s not even the problem. The delay is ok. But that they move with the screen is annoying. You can’t just shoot straight at the target like with any other weapon. Normal projectile weapons require you to predict where the target will be. The true nights edge requires you to predict a combo of where you will be and where the target will be. I hate it that way and it’s a so so easy fix. Just make the projectiles independent from the screen😩
they made the true night's edge nearly useless after the rework. It does bad damage, it's projectiles are slow and laggy, and the weapon itself is slow too.
As someone who primarily plays Melee, I feel like I’m qualified to pitch in on this. The True Excalibur is an absolutely stellar weapon. It does great DPS, has good range (esp for a true melee weapon), and can hit up to 6 targets whereas other broadswords are capped at only hitting 3 targets per swing. It absolutely decimates plantera and is helpful for grinding enemies, such as in the post-plantera dungeon or solar eclipse. Plus, it’s one of the few True Melee weapons that can hit consistently enough to where Ichor is preferable over Cursed flasks in most scenarios. Then, we have True Night’s Edge, which heavily sacrifices damage for range. I genuinely feel like True Night’s Edge is the only weapon that got nerfed with the reworks. The projectile just isn’t that great, plus it’s super hard to aim, and the DPS is underwhelming, especially against plantera, as half the time you can barely even hit her in her 2nd phase. I feel like having the projectile pierce 1-2 enemies, as well as a slight increase to its base damage and speed, and making the projectile easier to aim would make it a lot better, because as it stands, it’s basically just a worse version of the Death Sickle that’s used to craft the Terra Blade.
I much prefer the true excalibur, the large hit radius is fun and it can be useful for clearing groups of enemies (like the solar eclipse which you'll likely be dealing with to get terra blade), while the true night's edge is kinda just mid, it fires slowly and doesn't deal much more base damage to make up for it, it has the range advantage but other weapons can deal more dps, it's also very difficult to hit fast targets (like mothron as shown in the video) due to its projectile behaving like the demon sickle except it also follows your screen
@@buzzybees8604 They definitely also need to up the base damage or attack speed. It deals around the same dps as the shadowflame knife, and that's a pre-mech weapon.

thanks so much @sockrteez for pulling up the debate (not sure about this expression) i used to prefer the NE, obviously because it was just better in every way. now tho since the melee rework, they are both good, and different, and i LOVE it, i prefer the true excalibur, since i'm experienced at the game and do not fear to go close to bosses, and i find the projectile too slow. the NE is very good against plantera tho, and i was really happy that you notified it, thanks for this sick video ( they always are), keep it up man :3
While it may not look like it , true Excalibur is really helpful post mech boss exploration, funny enough I completed a melee playthrough today. True Excalibur easily shreds mobs as shown , helping in dungeon or jungle exploration.
I LOVE using the True Night's Edge for Plantera, as you said, it makes it easy as pie. As for mothron, I kinda prefer the True Excalibur. Except for the dashes, mothron flies pretty slowly, giving the True Excalibur enough range while you slowly move away.
I prefer the True Excalibur. In Plantera's second phase, when paired with a titan potion, it did pretty well at knocking the tentacles out of the way, allowing me to hit the boss sooner than the TNE could have hoped to. It was also able to absolutely mince Mothrons when paired with the offense boosting beetle armor.
I also found TNE's role for doing damage from a distance to be overshadowed by the light discs, which may even do more DPS at range even if you hit every time with the TNE projectile.
the true night's edge needs to be turned into an actual weapon and not one with camera-locked projectiles that hardly do any damage and are kinda low damage
True Night's Edge has more range than True Excalibur, but True Excalibur has more damage than True Night's Edge. True Night's Edge is more cooler to see, but True Excalibur attack is more smooth. Well in my opinion they are both good.
I prefer the True Excalibur just cause it feels so much smoother and does more damage. I can just run through and hold down swing and it goes fine, I'll still have True Nights Edge nearby though
i would say i liked true excalibur more for the plantera fight, since in phase 2 you don't worry about plantera itself, but more her tentacles, since those also have health. (or at least that's how i do it) if you just dodge while constantly using the true excalibur, while also having some sort of summon focusing on plantera you're definitely good to go. you'll want to focus on your player than the actual boss i think
I preferred to use True Excalibur. It's just better and more enjoyable. They need to make the True Night's Edge projectile just constantly move at a decent speed instead of the acceleration thing, and make it pierce more, like at LEAST 5 enemies. Then it'd be less clunky to use and more effective.
I DESPISE the new true nights edge, the projectille is so off. the fact it moves with you and just disapears if it goes within 3mm of the floor is painful. True excalibur FTW
The problem with the True Night's Edge is that the projectile moves with the player and doesn't have any significant piercing. It's so hard to aim the damn thing. The True Excalibur is just better, yes you have less range, but the extra DPS and ease of use is worth the reduced range. Honestly, TNE is just a mid overrated sword that gets outclassed the moment you craft it. I found it easier to defeat Plantera with NORMAL Night's Edge rather than TNE just because it's easier to use and actually has a form of piercing.
I personally dislike using the True Night's Edge, the projectile so annoying to use properly and isn't satisfy at all to use. Probably my least favorite reworked sword, but it looks cool at least.
i always use the true night's edge for plantera, just build two platforms and loop around the arena. the "laggy" projectiles are really easy to lead and end up being very effective for plantera
Relogic should add a "true horsemans blade" as its one of the worst weapons to use against any boss. Being called 'Harvest Moon', the upgrade would summon up to 5 pumpkin moons that would fall from the above to strike your foes down, stacking with the amount of hits dealt. The moons would be around the size of lunatic cultists ice shard attack and would directly fall at the hitted target, but if there are more enemies at the screen then the moons would spread att them aswell. It sounds a bit op ngl
The True Night's Edge's projectile is really nice for standard play, but the projectile has a weird quirk where its projectile stays static compared to the player. Meaning if you fire it forwards and fly up, the projectile will essentially curve upwards to stay level with you. This makes it really difficult and unintuitive to aim in some fights, like what was shown against Mothron. I also found that the True Excaliber gave me one of the easiest Plantera fights I've had in a long time, since with good melee size/speed bonuses (like from the mechanical/magma glove) you can very easily just kite in small circles around the first phase with essentially no danger, and the AOE clears up all the little tentacles in the second phase pretty well.
The true nights edge is my favourite weapon in the game, it has a relatively demanding crafting recipe, but it isnt ludicrous, it looks like a beast, scales with melee speed REALLY well, and can really deliver some great damage if you can hit all the projectiles, i got good at doing this from playing countless shooter ganes, so aiming the wind up spinning blades is pretty easy for me, not hating the true excalibur, but i just simply prefer the true nights edge Anyway thanks for making this video sock :))
When I have used the True Night's Edge for the first time, I was a bit mixed as the secondary slash created moves with me, but as I have used it more it has grown on me, mostly because I was using it up close to the target like its predecessor, and because of that it has grown on me Now the True Night's Edge has to be my favorite, just by how it destroys single target foes if you are able to play it risky Final verdict: True Excalibur excels in crowd control, especially with the solar eclipse til Mothron shows up, True Night's Edge is great for Single Target DPS if you are willing to play more greedily and more recklessly, but not too greedy/recklessly as you'll end up getting yourself killed
Since they build into the Terrablade, which I always pick up, I tend to use them in tandem. They both have their uses. You should use them both before you get the broken hero sword. They are awesome.
True Night's Edge has two problems for me: 1. it's not the lag in projectiles, it's the hitbox. I feel like I should be hitting more enemies than I do. 2. Compared to regular night's edge, there's no pierce, making this awful for events, which is what it should've been good for. if there was a nerf to damage, and increase in hitbox and pierce, it would be really fun to use.
For the people who chosse true nights Edge they literaly noobs tô the game, First: true nights Edge hás an low Speed project, that follow your screen Now about true Excalibur its good First: good damage, good range, good Speed and destroys events like eclipse and blood Moon
Fighting enraged plantera with cheese for the true excalibur: remove tiles and walls in a space where plantera cant reach anything when stretching out from the middle. Then place a single tile in the middle and you win.
i was so excited to try the new 1.4.4 nights edge and excalibur, such a glowup from what they were, but i was kinda dissapointed. they are better for sure but i guess dormant mod spoiled me with its version of the nights edge/ true nights edge but i still have to go with true nights edge
I've always preferred the nights edge, if gave better dps and I only really used it against plantera (a slow moving boss) and mothron (which didn't put up much of a fight) before I got the terra blade
as a kid i always loved the story of king arthur and the excalibur and so it's my favorite, even if it's the worst weapon in the game i will love it no matter what
In my opinion they both have different roles, but the true nights edge is just kind of bad at its job, with stuff like death sickle out classing it, while true excalibur doesn't really have any competition
before the melee rework i prefered true night's edge but with the rework the only reason i craft true nigh's edge is to be able to craft terrablade i just like excalibur more
I would always use true melee weapons when not using agajnst bosses because it just feels so great smacking hordes of enemies on my flaming goat mount like a knight
True nights edge projectile should have had infinite pierce, just something about the “hard hitting” weapon both looking smaller visually and falling flat after 4 enemies show up feels weird
I prefer the true excalibur more than the true night edge bc the true excalibur has more damage and for the range targets I usually use the shadow flame knife pre mechs and the death sickle post mech
if the true night's edge projectile didnt follow the camera (idk what words I should use there) I feel like it would be way more useful cuz it would be WAY easier to aim
I like those swords beside the efficiency, but that screen-fixed T-night's edge's projectile, I hate it. It feels weird using screen-fixed projectiles, and it's *slow* like, a lot!
i love the true excalibur, its so much fun to use, very satisfying. i dont like the delay the projectiles have on the true nights edge, they take a second to fly away, kinda like the demon scythe, which imo makes it feel clunky.
Ngl i never used true excalibur. i was always very lucky triggering solar eclipse at proper timing just before entering jungle temple or beating golem. My main issue about true excalibur is the moment we get this weapon. True nights edge only requires souls and nights edge, for true excalibur we need to get over 100 chlorophyte ore. I always prefer getting chlorophyte armor first so, this 100 ore isn't insignificant. Also after beating the destroyer its not like excalibur main pro is very useful - only at invasions it shines which is rather one or two events it is used and it is rather obscure weapon to use it just because it becomes obsolete after getting broken hero sword.

I love both but nights edge more (both normal and true variation)
The correct answer: BOTH. I did a melee playthrough (dont dig up seed) and I pivoted between the two a LOT until I got Terra Blade.
The True Excalibur and is definitely the glass cannon if the two but could be better it the target is static
Did you do a vid of your pirate invasion arena? If yes what is that video? im really interessted😂
I started playing like 5 months ago and seeing how bad the old versions of these weapons are is weird to me
The problem with the True Night's Edge is that the projectile moves with the player and doesn't have any significant piercing.
Anyone remember the old terra blade projectiles?
Hard to aim
Too thin
Why do the true nights edge green projectiles move with you
4:06 its funny because he was using just the normal excalibur here
i always use the true night's edge for plantera, just build two platforms and loop around the arena. the "laggy" projectiles are really easy to lead and end up being very effective for plantera
True Excalibur has 6 pierce/target limit (does he read the wiki?)
true nights edge projectile feels wonky 😢
Relogic should add a "true horsemans blade" as its one of the worst weapons to use against any boss. Being called 'Harvest Moon', the upgrade would summon up to 5 pumpkin moons that would fall from the above to strike your foes down, stacking with the amount of hits dealt. The moons would be around the size of lunatic cultists ice shard attack and would directly fall at the hitted target, but if there are more enemies at the screen then the moons would spread att them aswell.
It sounds a bit op ngl
I just use the true Excalibur plantera just cuz it feels better for me
True Excalibur, no question. Even if it has less range it just feels soooo much better to use
The true nights edge is my favourite weapon in the game, it has a relatively demanding crafting recipe, but it isnt ludicrous, it looks like a beast, scales with melee speed REALLY well, and can really deliver some great damage if you can hit all the projectiles, i got good at doing this from playing countless shooter ganes, so aiming the wind up spinning blades is pretty easy for me, not hating the true excalibur, but i just simply prefer the true nights edge
Anyway thanks for making this video sock :))
I've never really had issues with aiming, it's like other projectiles you have to pre-aim and mind the rhythm. But it's huge so it's hard to miss.
Great video for pre plantera
I much prefer true excalibur for plantera. The range is not as big of an issue as it looks
Your all wrong the best weapon and by far the strongest is the copper short sword which is actually pretty big
When I have used the True Night's Edge for the first time, I was a bit mixed as the secondary slash created moves with me, but as I have used it more it has grown on me, mostly because I was using it up close to the target like its predecessor, and because of that it has grown on me
Now the True Night's Edge has to be my favorite, just by how it destroys single target foes if you are able to play it risky
Final verdict: True Excalibur excels in crowd control, especially with the solar eclipse til Mothron shows up, True Night's Edge is great for Single Target DPS if you are willing to play more greedily and more recklessly, but not too greedy/recklessly as you'll end up getting yourself killed
Since they build into the Terrablade, which I always pick up, I tend to use them in tandem. They both have their uses. You should use them both before you get the broken hero sword. They are awesome.
2:17 he says while you can clearly see on screen that it is not hitting an infinite amount
Do a video of the star wrath.
For the people who chosse true nights Edge they literaly noobs tô the game, First: true nights Edge hás an low Speed project, that follow your screen
Now about true Excalibur its good First: good damage, good range, good Speed and destroys events like eclipse and blood Moon
I like using the true Excalibur as a close up melee weapon during my ranged worlds.
I like the true nights edge more then the true Excalibur and that is because I like the range of the nights edge
Bro but it does like a third of the damage of the true Excalibur
It also might be worth considering how well the true excalibur does in the post-plantera dungeon. That thing RIPS in there
Fighting enraged plantera with cheese for the true excalibur: remove tiles and walls in a space where plantera cant reach anything when stretching out from the middle. Then place a single tile in the middle and you win.
i was so excited to try the new 1.4.4 nights edge and excalibur, such a glowup from what they were, but i was kinda dissapointed. they are better for sure but i guess dormant mod spoiled me with its version of the nights edge/ true nights edge
but i still have to go with true nights edge
To be honest, Terrablade is only useful for t3 ooa. Flying Dragon > Terrablade
I like true excalibur more than the true night edge
I've always preferred the nights edge, if gave better dps and I only really used it against plantera (a slow moving boss) and mothron (which didn't put up much of a fight) before I got the terra blade
as a kid i always loved the story of king arthur and the excalibur and so it's my favorite, even if it's the worst weapon in the game i will love it no matter what
The True Excalibur is more focused multiple targets, while the True Night's Edge is more on the single target side
In my opinion they both have different roles, but the true nights edge is just kind of bad at its job, with stuff like death sickle out classing it, while true excalibur doesn't really have any competition
To be honest I always though the new true nights edge was garbage
Idk if it's just me but the true excalibur looks like it's only hitting 6 enemies 2:15
If there is an argument on what is better about weapons obtain at the same time, then it just means the dev makes a good job at balancing.
before the melee rework i prefered true night's edge but with the rework the only reason i craft true nigh's edge is to be able to craft terrablade i just like excalibur more
I would always use true melee weapons when not using agajnst bosses because it just feels so great smacking hordes of enemies on my flaming goat mount like a knight
It depends. TNE is good for bosses and for sniping if your low, but TE is good for invasions, events, and keeping enemies away.
It feels weird using screen-fixed projectiles, and it's *slow* like, a lot!
the true excalibur is FAR superior, the true night's edge's projectiles are janky and low damage compared to the true exalibur's raw swinging power
Both become even better with a melee speed build.
Can you talk about who's better: crimson or corruption???
Correct answer:always use a drunk world
@@anshbasu8160 well, fair enough. But the drunk world is completely broken, I mean a normal world.
Depends if ur staying consistent with a class, but I’d say corruption overall
@@JohnnyBigodeTV I'd say, crimson for ranged and melee, and corruption for mage and summoner can go with either
@@anshbasu8160 I am a mage, and I prefer the crimson, and one word: I C H O R
i love the true excalibur, its so much fun to use, very satisfying. i dont like the delay the projectiles have on the true nights edge, they take a second to fly away, kinda like the demon scythe, which imo makes it feel clunky.
It also moves with the screen which is very very clunky. When you move AFTER shooting the projectile, it moves with your screen making everything miss
I am towards the end of a melee play through, I personally preferred the True Excalibur
Almost close in damage but one of them is more ranged and easier to make that’s why true knight’s edge is possibly the better choice
