For hardened steel and titanium I use solid carbide. But I never used them in hand drills being they are very brittle. When using a hand drill on titanium and stainless and I need to reduce work hardening I position an air nozzle to direct a constant flow of air on the bit and work to keep it cool. It can get loud but it saves on scrap pieces and worn bits.
