In my opinion the song is about 'letting go without letting go'. All the lyrics reflect how they let the person they love walk away but couldn't get the emotional attachment to them walk away. Eg: frappe says 'there's no birds in the cage I let them go' (meaning how he let her walk away and didn't want to force the relationship when she wanted it to end) but he also says ' this isn't me , I was focused . I had a dream and you sold it. ' ( meaning how she changed him and he fears it is irreversible) but in the end he also says 'I am thankful for all the flavours you had brought in my life I am more than greatful'. Similarly , encore says the same thing 'nashe aur chakne mei yaad aye toh dil chkna choor ho jata hai'. ' Dua hai ki tu khush rhe ' and then ' deewar ke uss par hi khush tu lekin ayo na iss baar wapis kyunki mai tere liye tuch hoon'. Even the title is 'wish you were here' it's all about getting closure while trying to minimise their surviving feeling for her .
