MechWarrior Online - Black Hawk KU gameplay

The first Inner Sphere Omnimech in MWO, the Black Hawk KU is a near complete replica of the clan Nova with many concessions to make it work in a similar manner. Ten tons heavier and sporting a XL engine it can still perform to the same standard as it's clan forerunner, arguably better depending on the situation.

TRO 3058 mentions that the Black Hawk KU was a crash project that the Combine to reverse engineer OmniMechs after Wolcott, with the salvage from the Battle of Luthien and salvaged Novas revealing that it used standard materials for its structure and armor. Raptor was the first entirely indigenous IS Omni design but the KU was one of the first widely produced.

Ah yes the Raptor of course. I knew the Black Hawk KU was one of the original but possibly not the first produced.

I had thought the KU just meant "Kurita"

I'm not sure if it does or not really. It only occurred to me that it might be the Japanese for nine given the time of writing the team had been naming newer 'mechs around the great houses ethnic influences like with Liao getting things like the Men Shen and Steiner the Hauptmann.

@@CriticalRocket I think that's my problem with them... they want premium pricing for minimal effort. For $15 I could get a 7hr DLC for Horizon Forbidden West with way more value packed into it.

It also should not have hands, but they left them on the model for some reason. It is a bit disappointing they didn’t put more effort into it

The lack of effort is really bad. Literally has two panels on the torso to differentiate them from each other and that's it.

It's tankier than the Nova. A friend and I did a 1v1, him in the Blackhawk and me in the Nova. Wasn't even a fair fight. He won every match. Yeah, ku means 9. I wonder if Steiner uses them for scouting or if they stick to Atlases.

Probably work in tandem with Commando units in urban centres to knife fight larger slower moving threats.

I understand why they brought this into MWO, but I was really hoping they brought a different innersphere omni mech. A Men Shen or even the Firestarter omni would have been better. I have found faster mechs with XL engines to be more survivable in the clash than the slower ones.

Those would have been cool yeah. I assume the idea here was to take some existing model and add a small change to quickly turn around a "new" 'mech and then this month have the completely new chassis for sale. Rumour is the new 'mech will be the Phoenix Hawk IIC
