- I show you the auxiliary outboard I’ve bought for my boat. It’s a 2014 Long shaft Honda BF2.3D 2.3hp air cooled single cylinder engine. I demonstrate how to start it up whilst it’s mounted on the bracket on the back of the Strikeliner - using a bucket of water to sit the propeller in.
Great viddo i just bought a strikeliner due to turn up tomorrow cant wait
I’ve seen one pushing a similar sized boat so that gave me the confidence to buy it and give it a go. But I haven’t tried pushing the Strikeliner with it yet. I will definitely do a test to show you how well it fairs and report back in a future video.
Hi Matt, I have similar boat and aux engine, have you tried it yet. Does the little Honda have enough power to push it
Actually there is no need to run this small engine in a bucket. I have the same motor and it is air cooled. As you can see there is no tell tale.
Hi Daniel, Thanks for watching the video! I initially thought the same as you with it being air cooled but before doing this video I read the instruction manual in minute detail in order to avoid giving out misleading info. I found on page 54 that it clearly says to run the motor in a bucket with water 6 inches above the anti ventilation plate. And then there is a notice that states: “Running the engine without water can cause overheating and damage.”
The first outboard I owned several years ago was a short shaft one of these and to be honest I didn’t run that one in water and never had a problem!
@@mattryland949 Well, obviously the manual isn't incorrect but it doesn't allow for common sense. I realize that the bucket will provide cooling for the lower unit and resistance for the propeller, but that can't be a problem when running at lower rpm for a short time.
