- On a trip up the Wareham Channel we test whether the Honda 2.3hp auxiliary outboard is able to push the boat fast enough by itself. The auxiliary motor is there just in case the main engine happens to break down.
With two adults and a baby onboard we were able to reach a top speed over ground of 4.6 Knots.
Thanx I like the 2.3 for first motor
Hi Matt thanks for the info, but was wondering where you got the prop from
I bought it 3rd April this year online from Pacermarine. They are based in Aldershot, Hampshire.
It’s a 7.1/4” x 4.3/4” Honda 3 blade propeller. SKU: 58130-ZV1-841ZB according to the invoice.
Hi Matt. Have a strikeliner too. Really enjoyed your renovation videos. I was just wondering if you fitted a new keel band or did you just leave it with gel coat. I have been putting off doing mines for years
Hi Dermot,
I’ve left it without a keel band as I don’t need one with the way I use the boat.
As far as I know they are designed for when you let the boat sit on the bottom when the tide goes out. A keel band will certainly stop the gel coat getting abraded by whatever’s on the sea floor.
I do prefer having less holes in the bottom of the boat now. The old keel band was mild steel and had separated from the hull in places and water was definitely getting in the hull through the screw holes.
Thanks for the info matt
how fast will it go with the 25? i have the same one its a great engine,,,, i was wondering where you got your throttle lever from also
With just me in the boat it’ll do 16 knots. With three people 12 knots.
I’ve put a new prop on that allows the motor to rev to 5800rpm. I couldn’t get more than 12 knots with the prop that came with the boat when I bought it.
I run a 9.8 x 9 prop now.
The throttle lever is from Honda and was new in 2009.
Thanks for the reply
can you actually start on Honda?
Total fail keeping the main motor in the water .
