Do the standard AirPods fit in your ears?
Yes, and the AirPods 4 are an amazing upgrade over previous models.
The original AirPods are the best fitting earbuds I’ve ever owned. If I’m being honest, I’m not sure why they changed the design. I’ll have to try the new ones to see, but none of the AirPods beyond the originals have ever worked for me
Put my AirPods in my ears and forget them until they are empty. Sceptic about the Pro version as I can't stand any pressure in my ears.
I do have the airpods 2 before but due to fitting issues i upgraded to airpods pro 2. And it’s worth it
I have 3 pairs of AirPods, the AirPods 2 (that original shape), the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro 1 and only the original design fits me well! Yes, the older, smaller ones with long stems never fall out of my ears! The 3s are ok for a while and then I have to re-adjust them - same as Mark with the 4s - and the pros sit well but are tiring my ears. So, I’ll likely pass on renewing them and get a pair of wired earbuds with usb-c once the new iPhone arrives 😁 a shame that the old design is being fased out
I have the AirPods gen 2 and upgraded to 4 they fit me so much better!! I wore them for hours.

I hated the 3s and held on to my 2s for ages finally got the 4s with anc. They fit so well and the anc is really goood. The 3s were way to round and big for my ears almost painful
Pro 2’s I’m constantly pushing them back in while working out. Trying the 4’s the ANC is quite impressive for non tip buds. I find they work better for me than the pros. They don’t fall out at all.
Same boat the pros always work their way out while eating talking walking. The new 4s don’t and to my ears they sound nearly the same and ANC is nearly the same.
Just picked them up yesterday so far the fit is great. I’ve tried the 3s and they always feel out and I went back to the 2s and the 4s fit even better than the 2s. So far I’m impressed with the 4s

Wired EarPods fit me great. A tryout of AirPods 3 felt like they were too fat. Haven’t tried 4.

You can indeed try them in an Apple Store. They get immediately wiped down and disinfected ready for the next tester after you finish.

Weirdly the AirPods Pro work pretty well for me but one gradually works its way out - have to push in while running. The normal AirPods without rubber tips stay in my ears perfectly - although I’m thinking about the old long stalk type.
Exactly same for me with the left ear…for me it feels like i constantly notice its there more than i should like something is stuck there and also a bit less stable than the perfectly fitting right ear…

What is the ANC like in the real world? Is there any noise leakage to annoy people around you?
I have the AirPods Pro 2 and they are useless for me while running. Constantly need to adjust them unlike the original AirPods where I can run for hrs and never have to touch them
The original AirPods used to fit my ears pretty well, but I have the same issue with the AirPods 3 as Mark’s left ear. I had similar problems with the first AirPods Pro, but the Pro 2 with the extra small ear tip fits perfect. I’m still interested in checking out the AirPods 4 to see if they have improved for my ears, because sometimes I just don’t want ear tips.
Same here, my left hasn't the same shape and fit.
Which makes those non soft-tipped buds straight up hurtful on it.
I took back the AirPod 4s today and got the Pro 2s. The fit for me was ok but wasn’t the best. I tried the pros and they are perfect for me. The 4s sound amazing and almost as good as the pros. The fit was the only reason I took them back. I had and still have the AirPod 2s.
My problem with them is that when ANC is on, one of the airpods dies faster then the other one.
Yes you can ask to try them in an Apple Store. Went to Sheffield on Monday and tried them a couple of times. Have the same issue as you Mark, I would love a pair but they fall out of my ears too easily so Pros for me too. Definitely recommend trying them if you can as you suggest and going to an Apple Store can be done.
I agree with this review 100%. I LOVE everything about the 4 except the fit - they slide out of my ears (particularly my left ear). So I'm returning them and sticking with the Airpods 2 (my favorite fit) and the Pro 2 (which I actually don't love since I don't like having to shove the eartips into my ear canal, but at least they stay in).
I can’t use the AirPods Pro unfortunately because the silicone inserts cause my ears to become inflamed, itchy, and red. So the AirPods 4 with ANC sounds like they might be a solution for me
i prefer the airpod 3 instead of the pro because i dont like the rubber fitting. if these fit like the ap3 i would definitely go for the ap4 with ANC.
Great review. I’m in the opposite camp. I can’t get any in ear earbuds to fit properly in both ears…my two ear canals have drastically different shapes and no matter what tips I’ve tried, can’t get them to stay in….my right ear always comes loose and never seats properly…my airpod 3s are the best and can’t wait to try these with the ANC!
The wired EarPods fit me great. Don’t know how these compare on fit.
I find the silcone tipped Pro 2s to be quite uncomfortable - so much so I returned them within a week of buying. I'm hoping the new Airpod 4s fit like the Airpod 2s, which were good for me. My only annoyance is that the new case isn't magsafe, so I'm in two minds as to whether I should just get the cheaper version.
There is the ESR case that makes them MagSafe
They are very comfortable. I can charge the ANC version on an Apple watcher charger.
The only thing i wish it had was a FULLY charged notification 🔋🔔 either from the airpods case themselves as a sound or as a banner for the phone. its so annoying to pick up the airpods when the lights are green only to see that theres 5% remaining to charge and having to guess all the time for when its fully charged…just a minor annoyance but other than that these are better than expected! …dont even mention the airpods 3 lol after a sound quality test between the 2 i immediately removed the airpods 3 from my device and from find my lol!
Trust me guys get either 2 versions of the airpods 4 you wont be disappointed!

That chime only triggers when the battery case level is 20% or below. Based from my Airpods Pro 2 experience. 😅
I have the AirPod threes, and like you my left ear was constantly ejecting the AirPod.
I found out that they make slip on ear tips that help focus the sound and keep the bud in your ear. So I wonder if they have them for the fours. They're not as aggressive as regular in ear silicone tips, but they do blockout a little bit of sound and they help improve the sound.
What I’d like to see a comparison of, is the AirPods 3 vs AirPods 4 ( non ANC ) 🤔
I had the airpods pro 2nd gen I guess but they really hurt the back of my ears.
I have the AirPods Pro 2 and I had the previous version. I can’t keep them in my ears and I’ve tried the different sizes. I think I’ll try the AirPod 4 ANC. The original AirPods fit great
I couldn’t wear the Pros and even tried foam tips. No matter what I did they fell out of my ears. The 4s work perfectly and are so comfortable.

What's the fit like compared to Airpod 3?
3s fell out of my ears. I have no problems with these.
I wanted to love the pros, but those damn tips kept falling out of my ears no matter what size I used. It got annoying having to adjust and push them in so often while using them. I took a chance with the 4’s and thankfully they are a much better fit and don’t fall out. Not to mention it’s more comfortable for me since I’m not pushing anything into my ear
I got Apple pro 1 and £80 soundcore earbuds are very good too. And battery life is better and ANC is reasonable
I have airpod ears so pretty much every airpod (particularly the 3s and 4s) fit me perfectly. 😁
@MarkEllisReviews how do you feel about the fact that they have open ear mesh? It’s quite an issue if you don’t have clean ears all the time ya know?
I have the same problem with the AirPods 3 but got kind of used to twist one of them all the time in again 😂… I hate tips of any in ear headphones so it is kind of the only option for me. And since the AirPods Max didn’t get the wished update I‘ don’t know what to do. Can you please compare/describe the noise cancellation of the AirPods 4 more?
I was looking forward to getting the air pods pro 2 , but I am very disappointed they just don’t stay in my ears, so they’re rubbish, I prefer air pods gen 2 …they , stay in my ears no problem, do you think I should try gen 4 🤷♂️
The fit in the ear will have a significant impact upon sound quality.
My AirPods 3 fit my ears perfectly and I get on well with them (I imagine the 4’s are not a lot different in fit tbh) - but a family member found the 3’s didn’t fit very well (has smaller ears) and said the 2’s sounded better to them coz the fit was apparently more snug.
Definitely, one size does not suit all imo.
I have Pros (1st gen) and they are indeed great in noisy environments. Not so sure if you’re outside and it is windy though.
I have the same problem either my left ear. I even measure both earpods to compare they are the same size). I am thinking to return them.
Would be good to see how they compare with the Beats Studio Buds +. Sidenote, I once tried out earbuds in John Lewis, they completely covered them in sanitiser before and after so it can be done.
I have and prefer airpods pro 2 still (not with usb C) and have worn my wife's airpods 3 they are not too bad, but i get used to with the pro, and they better cuz they have better covering the outside sound.
i just wish the ANC airpods had better battery life. i love the conversation awareness of the pro 2's, and the gestrues... but don't need the other features on the open ear model.

In my own experience, my right AirPod Pro 2 always falls out when I move, even when using the largest ear tip. This highlights the difficulty in designing a one-size-fits-all solution for AirPods or AirPods Pro, as the length, diameter, and morphology of our ear canals vary considerably, particularly across different ethnic groups.
For instance:
Caucasians: Tend to have a more elliptical and horizontally oriented ear canal.
Asians: Often have a more circular and vertically oriented ear canal.
Africans: May have a slightly shorter and wider ear canal compared to other groups.
Furthermore, as you've no doubt experienced yourself, there is often no bilateral symmetry between the two ears, even on the same individual.
I've been waiting for something like this for years. I need the sound dampening for sensory sensitivities, but I'm allergic to the silicone they use in the AirPods Pro and aftermarket ends mess with the ANC. I've got the big ANC headphones for real noise cancelling (not Apple) but for something pocketable, these are perfect.
I tried sanitised AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 in the Apple store ( If the Pro 2 are comfortable for 6+ hours, then I think those are the ones for me )

Standard AirPods I can understand. However, trying to introduce noise cancelling on a earbud that has no actual seal like the AirPods Pro 2 do, makes absolutely no sense to me at all.
I'll probably get the standard AirPods 4 for my wife as she loves her 3's but they are "bulbous" for her ears.
I got the 4 ANC the other day and they really surprised me with the Noise Cancellation without the eartips. They are the sleeper hits this year. I’d suggest waiting for a sale a few months since the pro 2’s are close in price on sale.
What places do you think would put the Airpods 4 on sale? I doubt Apple would.

You can try the Airpods in the store Mark. I was in on iPhone day and tried them on - decided they do fit as Airpods 3 didnt fit. And then happy days purchased them. I have had every generation and iteration of Airpods other than the Mark Ellis Favourites Airpods Max 😆

Yaaaassss, movie theme tracks are my jam. And game theme tracks too. But still I won't be touching those Airpods as the fit just doesn't work for me. I hate that no-tip design with a passion

That'll come down to the fit.
I have the exactly same issue with my left bud😂 I reset it constantly. so I decide to use it when I remain static and grab AirPods Pro when going out and exercising. Problem solved.😂

The 4s do provide a better fit than previous versions. They are a great value for Apple . I do think the noise cancelling version is the worth it. The noise cancelling results in better sound.
Just received my airpods 4 ANC today - sound is great - the fit is bad for me - so disappointed - I'm very active and they are just too loose. Will need to upgrade to 2 pro I guess. Just thought the latest tech would be better. I have galaxy bud, beats buds, sony buds - all crap microphone sound so wanted these to really work.
It fits, but it starts to hurt if you plug them in too deep for a better snug fit. The ANC is 0.6 if airpods pro 1G is a 1. In comparison the airpods pro 2 is a 1.3. The airpods pro 2 is my choice, nearly as good as the airpods MAX.
Airpods 2 were the best fit for me, I have Airpods 3 now and the left ear is a similar issue for me. I’ve always had an issue with silicone tips though, albeit more because of the pressure issue, which I believe isn’t an issue with the Airpods Pro? p.s. Hope you’re feeling better soon!
I'm loosing the left airpod pro. Airpods 3 and 4, no problems and they stay in place, always.

I noticed something before i had 3 gen and personalized spatial audio well when i put volume up to airpods 4 they was not sounding good but after i reset the personalized spatial audio and register with the airpods 4 they sound louder and more bass even
Samsung buds3 are normal without tips and have anc and are under 200 and give double the battery of those pods 4
Any "electric toothbrush head" earphones without really soft and well fitting silicon tips are useless for me, either those drop all the time or I'll get splitting headache.

AirPods 4 check every box and actually live up to the hype. AirPods 1,2, and 3 would fall out of my ears…AirPods 4 fit my ears and don’t need constant adjustments. I was shocked they get loud, have nice bass, and the ANC works (in certain conditions). The transparency mode works so great and they are comfortable to wear all day

Apple AirPods 4 with no ANC don´t have wireless charging case
Bring back tap to answer, all this pinching is really inconvenient. Gen 2 user still because of tap. I’ve bought enough tho to hold me out for a decade or however long it takes them to bring back tap.

If you are on airpods pro using xs tips and are thinking about getting this, then dont, the pros will be more comfortable for long use, i bought the 4 because i hat tips but the xs tips are much more comfortable for me

@@MarkEllisReviews i wouldnt say its a problem but after using huawei freebuds with 9hours battery, I literally wear them all day and never have to charge whereas with airpods I always end up having to charge. But I am a HEAVY user

Tried the AirPods 4 ANC at an Apple Store in AB Canada, at launch last week. The staff were courteous enough to take out a new pair out. 😊I can collaborate your review Mark and assessment. Great sound, ANC and fit. 👍🏼
Price is irrelevant. I’d buy the AirPods 4 over the Pro 2s even if they were more expensive.

You lost me the moment you said these aren't "Audiophile sounding"and "lack of seal"....:) ...I can't go backwards after the Pi8's, i just can't. Kudos to you mate...I don't see how you can bounce from brand to brand after you heard the best. It's your job...so you got to I guess. For me I would have start low and build up ...I can't go High and go backwards. It's like dating Margot Robbie and leaving her to go date Joan Rivers or one of the Golden Girls. Sure all are in show biz technically but one is much newer with way better features:). But I love the video nonetheless.
You use the B&W with the iPhone? If so, are you getting the most out of them considering iPhone does not support Aptx?
Yup, it's my job ;) But it's easier to compartmentalize these things than you think. They all have very different use cases and audiences.

Those are IEMs. These are earbuds. Not the same thing. IEMs will have a smaller soundstage and image than an earbud. The fit is different between each.
@@Cujobob have you looked at the new B&W Pi8’s? They are ear buds. Not sure what you are referring to. Watch the review on this channel and google the product before commenting falsely.
