I think it was because they knew that they knew that neither of them would be easy to control...like they would want to do their own thing and not fit the cookie cutter mold they were looking to fill. I've read that the winners do not have much say while under the Idol contract.
The most boggling is Jennifer Hudson, she came in seventh in the 3rd season! Went on to be an oscar winning movie star and daytime talk show host. Winning isn't everything.

He is like a savant, or something. That guitar is more a part of his body than it is a seprate tool like mine. Lol. But we only Witness these things nowdays, because of everything being recorded. 30 Years ago people lived and died, never seeing anything like him. You can really hear that coming out in Alejandro's piano skills. I agree he is a savant and he didn't really know how good he is. I can't hit a lick on a guitar but when I watch vids of him I put it on theater screen mode and am in total awe with what he is doing on those strings to achieve his unique sound. Just genius IMO. I'm forever a fan of Alejandro and hope being on this platform has catapulted him into achieving his musician dreams. He absolutely deserves it!

Alejandro's audition makes me tear up every time because he is so selfless and talented and has NO idea that he is as amazing as he is in this moment. Just a humble guy with an immense amount of dedication and talent.
Alejandro is one of THE most talented American Idol singers ever. His version of I Fall Apart (Post Malone) was so impressive. Guitar, piano, original songs. I loved him and wished he would have won. Humble and sweet guy.

I remember Brian May (Queen) saying he called up Roger Taylor and asked him if he had heard Adam Lambert singing on Idol and that he thought they could have their new singer. What an honor. And Adam is still with them in 2023.
I loved him also. He is gay and so was one other singer I loved on AGT that didn't win and should have. People can't get past the gay to the person and how great the are as a person and singer. I'm not into gay people but when I judge them it's for who they are as a person and their talent. Adam Lambert is such a sweet person and he showed them being in concerts with queen.

I always loved Alejandro, but hearing him in comparison to the other auditions, he really and truly is the best. They are all good singers, but his songs are originals. And his musicality is beyond belief. There really is just no comparison!
I don't think he has the best voice out of all of them but I do think he is clearly the most talented. He killed the guitar and he is also good on the piano with a very solid voice and a different kind of voice so yeah I would say he's the most talented
Talent wise, it’s Alejandro that tops!!! Vocals, instrumentation, etc... nobody like him! Right after his season, he did 2 tours 2 albums and got invited to festivals. Right after!!!

As far as Chris Daughtry, this is one of the few times where Simon was 100% off-base. He could have deprived us of one of the most amazing voices (and raw charisma) in rock today.

Chris’s audition was terrible. Simon was right about his performance, but it was obvious his voice was unique. Simon took more chances with people in later seasons if they had something unusual in their voice.
Chris Daughtry was in a Christian band called absent element and it was based here in NC. I saw him, and met him before he became famous. Really cool dude.
I vividly remember watching Kelly, Carrie and Chris audition when it originally aired. With each of them, as soon as I saw and heard each of them, I knew they would become huge. Such incredible talent, it's so fun to be reminded of when we were first introduced to them.

I loved him also. He is gay and so was one other singer I loved on AGT that didn't win and should have. People can't get past the gay to the person and how great the are as a person and singer. I'm not into gay people but when I judge them it's for who they are as a person and their talent. Adam Lambert is such a sweet person and he showed them being in concerts with queen.

He possibly knew that the truth about his sexuality would not work on his favor had it been out during the show. Now he lives his truth. Queen's Roger Taylor has confirmed the exact video the band saw of Adam Lambert that convinced them the singer could pay tribute to their legendary frontman, Freddie Mercury.
The drummer confirmed it was a performance when Adam Lambert was a contestant on season eight of American Idol that spurred him to contact his bandmates saying he may have found a new lead singer for Queen.
Speaking on Good Morning America, Roger Taylor said of the 2009 incident: “A friend of mine called me up and said, ‘I’ve just seen the most amazing singer on American Idol.
“I checked it out and [Lambert] was singing 'Whole Lotta Love' by Led Zeppelin and just blowing it away. Fantastic.”
Roger and the rest of Queen were so impressed with the performance that they contacted American Idol directly regarding Adam Lambert.
The band asked to be on the show to perform with him, seeing it as a unique opportunity to see if the young singer would gel with the rest of Queen.
Roger continued: “We got in touch, and we were then asked to do the finale of Idol, which we flew over to do with the two finalists and we just got on magically with Adam.”

I don't think he has the best voice out of all of them but I do think he is clearly the most talented. He killed the guitar and he is also good on the piano with a very solid voice and a different kind of voice so yeah I would say he's the most talented

Chris’s audition was terrible. Simon was right about his performance, but it was obvious his voice was unique. Simon took more chances with people in later seasons if they had something unusual in their voice.
Chris Daughtry was in a Christian band called absent element and it was based here in NC. I saw him, and met him before he became famous. Really cool dude.

I vividly remember watching Kelly, Carrie and Chris audition when it originally aired. With each of them, as soon as I saw and heard each of them, I knew they would become huge. Such incredible talent, it's so fun to be reminded of when we were first introduced to them.
