In 2021, CRYPTA stormed to the top with their acclaimed debut full-length, Echoes of the Soul, landing at #55 on the Official German Album Charts and debuting at #15 on both the US Hard Music Albums and Top New Artist Albums Charts. Now, both fans and critics alike eagerly anticipate the release of the band’s new offering, Shades of Sorrow (out August 4, 2023 via Napalm Records)!
Formed in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Luana Dametto (drums) and Fernanda Lira (vocals), and now featuring guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Jessica di Falchi, CRYPTA once again stay true to the unique sound introduced on their first full-length, blending classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements on Shades of Sorrow.

“Shades of Sorrow is a semi-concept album which describes a journey through the depths of our psyche when facing tough battles. It's a trip to the many shades of pain we sometimes have to face while enduring our lives’ challenges. The songs are the perfect gloomy, dark, emotional soundtrack for this journey."
I sat down with Fernanda after a show on their recent US Tour with Morbid Angel to discuss her old band Nervosa!

Love both bands. I have a deep affection for several of the Nervosa records and both of the Crypta records have been really great. I can’t wait for either band to come back to Philly.

"Starvation" being the highlight song of this video warms my heart as it has been one of my favorite Crypta songs, not to take anything away from anything else because honestly I haven't heard a shitty Crypta song yet actually from "Echoes Of The Soul! 😆 The ENTIRE new album ALSO absolutely CRUSHES! And I can only hope that CRYPTA lasts forever! I also do like Nervosa and I absolutely love that Prika has taken over the vocals at this point in Nervosa and they are also kicking serious ass in my opinion. Keep killing it all of you ladies! PLEASE! 🤩

She cleared it up perfectly, but when you drop an album as incredible as Shades of Sorrow, there's no need to even mention Nervosa. The queens are officially on a higher level now! Love that Nuclear Assault shirt she's rockin🤘🏽

Crec que el què més em va apropar a Crypta és el fet d'haver tret un primer àlbum tan collodonament bo que, al cap i a la fi, no els feia falta omplir els seus concerts amb temes d'altres grups... I ja és igual que fossin temes de Nervosa o una mena de tribut a Death... No fa falta! Echoes of the Soul no té cap cançó dispensable i, pel que s'escolta, Shades of Sorrow tampoc en tindrà.

I'd love to hear what Fernanda thinks about the Nervosa albums that have come out since she left the band, especially the new one with Prika singing. Hopefully she likes those albums, too, because Nervosa is still putting out great stuff and I hope Fernanda can appreciate the new material. I like Crypta a little better, they're more my style, but both bands are excellent and have been releasing amazing music.
For Fernanda and many people there will always be 2 Nervosas I'm sure .. one with her one without... Nervosa's last two albums were solid! As we're Crypta's! In due time Prika and Fernanda may or may not work together again but from talking to both of them it's clear there is no lack of mutual respect 🤘

If I had to label them, I would Definetly consider Crypta “old school death metal”. Death metal before “Tampa death metal” became the standard.
Tainá n Jess have a chemistry. I dont know if its worked on or just comes naturally but they really compliment each other. Time is coming when i hear their names up there with King-Henneman,Holt-Hunolt...dare i say Murray-Smith &Tipton-Downing?

I like them both, Crypta and Nervosa, but I like Crypta's sound better.
