I have a 2006 GranSport 4.2 V8. It’s been missed with Larini decats, Tubi exhaust, Firmula Dynamics Drive by wire, ECU tune, lowering springs and beefier sway bars. This car is an animal…for how heavy it is. People fail to realize is that this is a GT and NOT a Sports car. These cars are built for high speed traveling…150 mph +…all day long….sure it’s finicky, but that is just the passion coming out. Porsches are a penny a dozen…it’s like driving a Mercedes/BMW/Audi…..NO PASSION. This gentlemen forgot to mention that this is a 3200 Twin Turbo V8…a classic car. A lot of reviews of these cars are done with poor examples of the marque…because maintenance is so HIGH…but it’s worth it. I always get looks and thumbs up and everyone wants to race me. 0-60 -> 4.4/4.7 top seed 180+ with a normally aspirated V8…no hair dryers attached….just 4.2 liters and 420ish horsepower with my modifications. This car also pulls like a scolded dog and NEVER runs out of breath. So yourself a favor….buy a Maserati, a good example….don’t be cheap, do the maintenance and my GOD lose the boring Porsche/Mercedes/BMW/Audi blahness…..do something different for once. You WON’T regret it.
Those parting comments are probably the reason I would choose the 3200GT over 996 Porsche! The Italian passion, heritage and flare is something worth paying for with the pain, stress and wallet. After many Alfas, I think I've primed myself for the Maserati life or I'm actually a bit crazy, either way I'm looking forward to it. Still saving but the dream is real. Thanks for the review 👌
So true, those boomerang lights came from nowhere, even by today's standards they are crazy. I like more and more the triangular face-lifted lights but boomerang ones will always be the 1st love.
I've had a 996 and two 997's......I've now had a Maserati 3200 GT for 5 years, it is just so visceral in a way the Porsche can never be. They also don't break, or spontaneously combust. The real issue with the 3200 GT and indeed the 4200 Coupe, is the poor spares availability from Maserati themselves. Wonderful 3200 GT's with minimal issues/damage, are being broken for spares because of the poor spares support. Come on Maserati, if you value your heritage at all, support these wonderful cars that are barely 20 years young!!!!
I bought the Maserati in 2000 it was a 99 model to be honest it was mental I done the clutch after only one thousand miles beautiful looking car but very temperamental I then bought the 996C4 in 03 totally loved the tiptronic box never had any issues with it for me Porsche all day every day
Great, entertaining video! I actually chose both the Maserati and the Porsche, and I own both of them, sort of! The 3200 isn't available in the USA, so I have the 4200 Spyder which we call the Maserati Spyder. I also have a 996 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. I have the opposite scenario on the transmissions, with my 996 being a 6 speed manual, and my Spyder being a Cambiocorsa model. As an owner of both, I can tell you that the Porsche like all Porsches is designed to drive to the track, run hard on the track, and then drive it home with the top down, and I've done that! ruclips.net/video/_o1JlPN9w3w/видео.html The Maserati with it's Ferrari derived V8 is an absolute screamer, especially with it's Fabspeed exhaust. ruclips.net/video/zBN3dtC0Ujs/видео.html You can watch my Drivin' Ivan video reviews of each car to hear the full story, but the Maserati has all of that Italian flair, and it is super fast too, while the Porsche definitely inspires more confidence with its huge amounts of grip (awd) and extremely solid build quality. The Maserati is quicker in a straight line for sure, and stands out a bit more at cars & coffees as compared to the 996. I love them both, and have owned both of them long enough to know that they are both surprisingly reliable despite all of the negativity associated with Maserati in general, and the IMS / RMS misinformation floating around the interweb. Only 8% of 996 Porsche have had this issue, and mine was taken care of before I bought it with 108k miles. The Maserati had 55k miles when I bought it. Check to see what Drivin' Ivan drives on RUclips. It's quite a fleet of interesting automobiles!
Dad has a 3200 incredible car beauty , insane v8 , sounds so nice , pulls very aggressively , very reliable in terms of space , and doesn’t break down at all that Is just theories about newer Maseratis the 3200s are very reliable
If you know what your looking at these can be had from as little as £10K there are even some kicking around as part ex's for £7'995 crazy! but yes a really nice lowish mileage example with all the paper work will be nearer £14/15K
Why even bother using a tiptronic 996? It is a castrated version of the manual car. A manual 996 coupe crushes everything in it’s price range and outperforms the 993 in all objective categories. It is light, powerful with great suspension tuning. Steering is fantastic.
Till you drive one,,, I own a 996.1 tip test drove manual and tip agree manual is a epic drive but can see why in the day you paid 2.5k to get tip added it is brilliantly matched against the 3.4 perfect for city or in manual mod for country lanes. The tech in a 98 tip still stands well today so Porsche were really pushing the boundaries with a auto box for a sports car. The new auto shift manual PDK are another example of Porsche constantly improving their cars. So before people step on the “ that tip box is not what you want in a 911”!drive one and see why so many 996s were ordered with them fitted over a standard manual
Finally someone did the review of 3200gt. It would be nice to see Maserati more in details or full solo review, because there are tons of Porsches done already.
I think only the purists were saying that the 996 was sacrilege. Let's be honest most Porsche buyers aren't purists or enthusiasts, they bought them for status. I doubt most even cared about water cooled vs air cooled.
Theodore Frazier yeah, people just latched on to the detailed nonsense. Never heard so many men worry about something as stupid and petty as headlights.
I have a 996 manual and I adore it, but I have to say I love the Maserati looks. Not so much the 4200, cos' those boomerang tail lights are just the nuts.
If only we Americans can access these cars and parts like you Europeans . Oh! Almost forgot here in California we have horrible roads . Seriously envy clean smooth roads 😭
On looks alone it would be the Maserati. The 996 is the least liked/loved of the 911 generation, with it's boring, very boring looks outside and in, and those Boxster headlights are it's curse for being the first of the watercooled series. Basically, I cannot stand the 996 shape! I'll take the Maser for some fun please
@@Chris-mv5zc all 1999s had the much more robust double row bearing, which was used in some of the 2000 models, and even a few 2001. If you purchase a 2000 or 2001, you really need to check. All the 3.6 liters, which were produced from 2002 to 2004 had the small single row, which is most prone to failure. I own a March 1998 build 996 with 92k miles, a lot of them on the track. It still has the original bearing.
The irony of the Maserati being the unreliable one when the 996 M96 engine has so many issues, the worst being bore score, then the IMS and RMS issues which are not so bad.
I'd get the 3200GT and plan £3-4'000/year to make sure she runs decently. 911 is the reasonable choice but nowadays any filthy rom can buy a 996 911. 3200GT screams exclusivity and class but yes, it's a maintenance greedy car.
I bought a 2K 996 C2 last July and have been having a lot of fun with it! I live in Flagstaff AZ and go out in search of lightly traveled twisty 2-lane back-roads all over the western US. I just can't think of anything better to do but that 3200 looks way cool. New subscriber, dig your channel.
Hey Guy, If you ever get a chance check out the Lida cutoff. It will take you from US 95 a little north of Beatty over to Lone Pine on US 395. It's one of my favorite roads anywhere, they built it to the contours of the terrain without bulldozing the off camber rollercoaster corners that will launch you mid-turn. It's just so much fun you can't drive it without laughing out loud! Cheers, have a great summer, Tom.
All 911’s have too much tyre roar, drive you crazy on a long journey. Maser could bankrupt you if you get a bad one which a mate of mine did. A manual in today’s traffic is an anachronism like a choke and halogen lights.
Tiptronic is a Mercedes auto box and is reliable. A manual in this day and age is so old hat but very trendy, especially if it’s a ‘proper’ manual box.
Porsche Is a very nice car, it works perfect to takes you from one place to another in a great, great, sport car. But... Un the other hand you have a not totally reliable car, which often fails, but... Could be something better than drive that piece of art???!!! It's like being among the clouds. Love Maserati.

Porsche 911 996 kann beim Thema Sound, Emotion und Feeling einfach nicht mithalten im Vergleich zum 3200 GT!!! Maserati.....❤️
That Maserati any day. The Porsche is for my dad
But the Maserati is a GT and not a sports car. Having had a 996 turbo and a Maserati 3200, I would go for the Maserati in the future.
996 was the first watercooled 911 not Porsche
