You can't rebuild this team with Sweeney and Neely still in the front office and the Jacobs just came out and said they believe in both so get ready for some long dark years my fellow bruins fans
Most of the trade suggestion make sense but with all the no trade/no movement clauses, doubt that we can get anybody impactful. If we are looking for draft picks, we probably need a different GM with different set of eyes/criteria to make the draft picks meaningful.
Every year they trade away for what end up being rental players.....and with what they have to trade, they aren't getting pieces that will make a difference this year. Bring up the young players in Providence, it's time for a youth movement.
OK. You keep missing the point with Sweeney and Neely. They're doing EXACTLY what ownership wants them to do: Which is make the playoffs every year -- so Jeremy "Monty Burns" Jacobs gets his extra parking and concession money. That's the bottom line and ALL Jacobs has EVER cared about. Jacobs has no ties to Boston. He lives in Buffalo FFS. He bought the team to make money.PERIOD. He doesn't give a shit about hockey. And Charlie Jacobs only gives a tiny shit about hockey -- and that's only since the cap era came around, Sure, they spend to the cap (now), and they'd take another cup and go "yay, we won," , but as long as the B's make the playoffs every year, ownership doesn't care about championships and won't change management. IF YOU VIEW THINGS THROUGH THIS LENS, ALL THE MOVES MAKE PERFECT SENSE. The horrid irony is that NOBODY knows this better than Neely and Sweeney -- who, as players, labored away in the pre-cap era, on Bruins teams that were always a second scoring line away from REALLY competing with the likes of the Gretzky/Messier Oilers and Lemieux/Jagr Penguins. The B's would go deep into the playoffs (twice to the Finals), but Jacobs would never spend the money to put them over the top. Why should he? He was rolling in playoff money. Why spend your profits for something as silly as a cup when you don't give a shit about hockey? I truly believe Sweeney and Neely WANT to win, and will do everything in their power, spending up to the cap every year to try and win. But their mandate from ownership is JUST MAKE THE PLAYOFFS EVERY YEAR so Jacobs makes money. Do that and they'll keep your jobs. This is why you're NEVER going to see a rebuild. B's fans who want the to win the cup see that they're falling short, so they say fire Sweeney and Neely. But the goal of the fans and the goal of ownership are totally different, and have been for the 44 year Jacobs has owned the team.. But they're already delivering EXACTLY what ownership wants. The only way they're out is if Boston misses the playoffs, say two consecutive years in a row.
Any notion that the Bruins should be doing anything but at least trying some sort of re-tool is just ludicrous based on how this team has played for a calendar year now, how flawed their big club roster is and how truly terrible their prospect pool and farm system are This year’s Boston Bruins 8-14-1 vs playoff teams 3-6-1 in their last 10 games 24th in goal differential 22nd Penalty Killing 30th Powerplay 24th 5x5 scoring -One of the NHL’s worst Farm System for a decade -Farm System is currently ranked 30th to dead last and 32nd EVERYWHERE -Flawed big club roster that clearly lacks sufficient forward scoring talent while also having the lowest scoring D-Corps in the NHL -This year the Bruins have one of the worst 5x5 offenses and Power Plays in the NHL while they also have been basically .500 overall and well below .500 vs playoff teams -Last year from January to May the Bruins were one of the worst 5x5 offensive teams in the NHL, they had one of the worst power plays in the NHL, they played .500 overall and they played well below .500 vs playoff teams That’s a full calendar year of the Bruins showing everyone exactly who they are Which is a team that is in desperate need of an influx of talent, whether that talent comes from the draft, via trades or free agency Once you get past Lysell, Merkulov and Dean Letourneau the Bruins don’t have a single other forward that projects as a Top 6 player And not a single of those three guys would even hold much, if any, value to any other NHL GM right now. Lysell and Merkulov are depressed assets and Letourneau right not is nothing but a years away unknown The best all three would could provide the Bruins today would be just as thrown in players in a larger types of deals The Bruins next group of prospects at forward such as Farinacci, Duran, Spicer, Locmelis, Kuntar, Harrison, Pelosi, Walsh... Which are their next best group of forward prospects... Each and every last one of these guys is a 3rd-7th round prospect that projects as low event, bottom 6 player, IF, they were to reach their ceilings and that’s a BIG IF not just on historical draft metrics of 3rd-7th round picks but Don Sweeney's HORRIBLE results drafting forwards and defensemen in the 3rd-7th rounds over a 10 year sample size At defense it’s even worse in terms of prospects for the Bruins as there is nothing in PVD that’s ready to contribute at the NHL level in a full time role And every single D prospect the Bruins have in their minor league system is a late round, 4th-7th round draft pick that has a limited chance of even making it to the NHL based on historical NHL draft metrics Brunet, Edward, Johansson, Groenwold and Ty Gallagher. These five are the Bruins best defensive prospects Guess what? Each and every last one of them is a 4th-7th round, long shot development player that projects as a bottom pair guy at the NHL level, IF they develop Don Sweeney has drafted a gaggle of d-men in rounds 3-7 since he became GM in 2015. Do you know who the NHL games played leader is drafted by Don Sweeney in the 3rd-7th round since 2015? Um, NO ONE Not a single D-Man Don Sweeney has ever drafted in the 3rd-7th rounds has even played a single NHL shift for Boston or any other NHL team Do you know who the games played leader at forward is drafted by Don Sweeney in rounds 3-7 since 2015? It’s Jacob Lauko and his lousy 89 games with Boston before moving on to MIIN. After Lauko it's Oscar Steen (60 NHL games) and Jonna Kopanen (5 NHL games) So based on Don Sweeney’s own draft results in rounds 3-7, over 10 YEARS, it sure seems like we shouldn’t expect much from any forward or D-Man Sweeney drafts in rounds 3-7. At the big club level they still lack a 1C because all Elias Lindholm is a good 2C, he's not a 1C Brad Marchand is a good player. At 36 he’s not a real NHL 1LW anymore and how long will he even be a 2LW moving forward? Neither Brazeau nor Geekie are Top 6 players and they both play wing in the Bruins Top 6 regularly Pavel Zacha is wing on his best day as he’s done nothing but fail as a Top 6 center Charlie Coyle is a good, defense first 3C that has no business being a Top 6 anything and his 5 lousy assist on the year and his dreadful career playoff stats more than prove that The rest of the big club roster at forward is nothing but a bunch of bottom 6 players, some of which are adequate in their roles, others not so much and not one of them, a reliable scorer The Bruins still have a decent core and most of their defense is locked up and under contract for the most part for the next several years as is Jeremy Swayman If they could make a few decent hockey trades to add some assets at this year’s deadline, free up some Cap Space for next year and do well this upcoming off season, the Bruins could easily be Cup competitive again fairly quickly However, if the Jacobs actually let Don Sweeney piss away even more of this team’s future chasing what will clearly be yet another early round playoff exit this Spring….. He should be sued for malpractice by this entire team’s fanbase Don Sweeney has had 10 years as Boston's GM and here are his accomplishments: -8 of 9 years failed to win more than 1 playoff round & you know this year it’s going to be 9 of 10 years -ONE, lousy 2nd round series win in 10 years as GM, ONE!!! And that single time was back in 2019 -One of the NHL’s worst farm systems for a decade where it’s currently ranked 30th to 32nd and dead last in the league EVERYWHERE!!! -Cap Jail every year -Flawed big club roster that Sweeney spent $160M in free agent dollars on last off-season -Flawed big club roster that since January of 2024 (a calendar year now) has played .500 overall, well below .500 vs playoff teams while also having one of the NHL’s worst 5x5 offenses and power plays as well There is nothing about this year’s Bruins team that says they should “add” at the deadline Instead, the Bruins should be selling off some of their pieces in an effort to at least take a shot at a short-term re-tool but if they don’t do it now… That short-term re-tool is likely to turn into a 5-7+ year rebuild at some point soon anyway because this Bruins team needs an injection of talent desperately and they lack the resources internally to do much about it right now Letting Don Sweeney piss away even more of their assets this year won’t lead to a Cup this Spring. Instead, all that will do is empty the cupboard that much more while ensuring that the Bruins are even that much farther away from their next Stanley Cup
Boomer here and a loyal viewer, but you two know nothing of leg trauma. Yes, I have a FaceBook account. Never been on Tik Tok or X and have no interest in either. Since I have kids living with me that are your age, I can relate to most of your commentary. And, jury duty is a very informative and educational experience, don't downsell it. On the Neely comment, re-tooling is needed and the goal should be to make the playoffs, sell more beer, and try to last more than 7 games.
@youngp1251 That works. McAvoy I don't think he's as good as the bruins think. I think Miller would help this team. 1 center and has scoring skill and grit.
Miller won't help this team, he has been absolutely horrible this year and is on the wrong side of 30. Getting him and this team is screwed for the next 5 years....
11:24 freaking epic TY moment🎉
You can't rebuild this team with Sweeney and Neely still in the front office and the Jacobs just came out and said they believe in both so get ready for some long dark years my fellow bruins fans
What the B's need is for Robert Kraft to buy the team......
I have a bad feeling they're going to mess this team up even more. Years of darkness are coming I fear.....
@@zachhaist6426 years not just 2 or 3 but yearrrrrsssss of bad hockey are coming
probably don't get that Poitras performance without his prov stint

They need to sell, or at the very least stand pat, and let the providence kids cook. Gotta see what ya got with the youth at some point.
Any notion that the Bruins should be doing anything but at least trying some sort of re-tool is just ludicrous based on how this team has played for a calendar year now, how flawed their big club roster is and how truly terrible their prospect pool and farm system are
This year’s Boston Bruins
8-14-1 vs playoff teams
3-6-1 in their last 10 games
24th in goal differential
22nd Penalty Killing
30th Powerplay
24th 5x5 scoring
-One of the NHL’s worst Farm System for a decade
-Farm System is currently ranked 30th to dead last and 32nd EVERYWHERE
-Flawed big club roster that clearly lacks sufficient forward scoring talent while also having the lowest scoring D-Corps in the NHL
-This year the Bruins have one of the worst 5x5 offenses and Power Plays in the NHL while they also have been basically .500 overall and well below .500 vs playoff teams

There is nothing about this year’s Bruins team that says they should “add” at the deadline
Instead, the Bruins should be selling off some of their pieces in an effort to at least take a shot at a short-term re-tool but if they don’t do it now…
That short-term re-tool is likely to turn into a 5-7+ year rebuild at some point soon anyway because this Bruins team needs an injection of talent desperately and they lack the resources internally to do much about it right now

Stop trading draft picks at the deadline, it doesn't work.
