The great thing about webnovels is that you decide your own interpretation of the story. Your mind 'animates' and brings to life the world the author has created. You get to fill in more of the blanks regarding environment or even character appearances. Fight scenes are more epic, because you are building them yourself through visualization. Your brain also has access to more information. It truly feels as if you are in the shoes of the protagonist. For me, it feels as if I get to live multiple lives.

The most highly praised chinese webnovel alongside Lord of the Mysteries
(My 2 personal favorites btw both of them ❤)
Althought the fandoms of these 2 works kind of antagonize each others on their own preferences bias like all the time 😂
Personally i don't see any relevance in the comparaison
Since they are as different as they can get
      Plot driven vs Character driven
      Different focus, forths
      Different writing approaches
Different philosophies and so on and so on...
      The only common ground
is that they are both novel works of sheer pure passion from their respective authors.

Webnovel is incredible. You get to see how a story unfolds in real time.
And thsi makes LOTM even better.
A classic book needs time to be written. The author can refine and change the story. Add forshadowing if needes.
But a masterpiece like LOTM needs a lot of foresight from the author.
Its just baffling how cuttlefish wrote this masterpiece with all its plotpoints and forshadowing. Even starting from volume 1.

It definitely hinges on the genre. Anime’s are a visual medium and can be more expressive with action while web novels allow more deep dives into emotion. Mangas try to walk the line between the two, trying to balance out have a visual format while also being capable of having a decent amount of dialogue. On top of that it depends most on the writer/artist. Some stories have average novels while having phenomenal mangas. Lord of Mysteries will always be better as a novel but a novel won’t be able to capture the essence of Attack on Titan as well as a manga.
One of my fav examples of how media format changes the tone of the story is Classroom of the Elite. Despite the main plot being exactly the same the Anime, Manga and LightNovel are 3 very different stories.

Even though writing has more depth than art, it doesnt mean a drawing without words cannot have depth, there are clearly a lot of artworks with just visual storytelling that have way more depth and complexity than people think, you can actually see the emotions of characters, environment, and atmosphere more clearly and with passionate mangakas like Kentaro Miura, Yusuke Murata, Hirohiko Araki and Takehiko Inoue are especially masters at it. It feels like you just described art as just "pretty pictures without any depth" and feels disrespectful towards artists.

You can try reading novels to make a proper comparison. For me, I prefer novels due to fact I'm very picky with art styles which makes it hard to appreciate the story.

The quality of each individual work should not be considered when talking about each form of media as a whole, since that depends entirely on the authors and not the inherent characteristics of each medium, which is also why attepting to assert that one is better than the other is meaningless.
What depth and expertise is presented in the stories of the best web novels is instead replaced by the painfuly detailed artwork of the best mangas. Discrediting said art as "pretty pictures" is genuinely disgusting and disrespectful to the time and effort artists like Miura put into their creation in the same way as it would be if someone were to deprecate web novels for "just being words".

And Patreon still gives him 2 dollars per person minimum with almost 3k monthly paying members (atleast 6k dollars per month at best 150k ). Webcomic revenue + Sales of eBooks and Audiobooks..

Disagree, each medium has it's strength, weakness and limitations.
Therefore I believe the quality of a story is more dependant on the execution how well they take advantage of the choosen medium.
Some stories don't translate well in other mediums:
Avatar the last Airbender's fight choreography wouldn't be as impressive, if not for animation.
The comical nature of One Piece or the bizarreness of Jojo could not be expressed through words alone.
    To go point by point:
Pure imagination > pictures: Preference, when it comes to epic crazy shit, yes. But for characters, nope. Imagining their appearance and how they act and behave feels often like generating AI pictures, lacking the "iconicness" of a good character design.
Also, if I need pictures to imagine, the written text has already failed in that department.
In-depth exploration: It's the strength of novels, especially complex things.
However more complexity =/= better story.
Emotions is there art shine as it immortalised these moments.
In Bleach, there is a page (3 panels) from which, with the context of the story, I can tell the worries of a father, who had to raise his children on his own after the loss of his wife, and the relief he felt, knowing he has done well.
In a recent One Piece chapter, within a span of 2 pages I shed tears for a character, who got properly introduced a few chapters ago, I have barely registered, let alone cared for till this point.
Sometimes all I need are just a few highlights.
Tactics: I would say up to 5 characters at the same time. Any more and the novel is usually losing momentum, because it needs to explain each part, to the detriment of a fast paced section.
World Trigger handles this aspect very well, including short-term foreshadowing of (surprise) tactics.
The author part: An interesting and valid point I never considered. Thank you.
But I am comparing the storytelling potential of each medium, not their ease of practicality. So I am not sure, how much I want to include this.
$$$: like every art, only the great ones earn well. A comparison to webtoon would be nice.
Waiting vs daily release: There is a tendency of repeating story beats and stretched chapters to meet the word count, which is long-term far more jarring to me than enduring a monthly chapter.
Better Powersystem: Matter of execution nearly irrelevant of medium. Haven't read those novels. Will try.
Lastly, it's quite insulting to reduce a mangas art to mere pictures. Have you never heard of visual and environmental storytelling?
Gigguk made a video about Naruto fights showcasing it's greatness. Technically the anime, but it gets the point across.
Hope, it was helpful to someone.

    • @snakeman5337

Now thats what im talking about! It's like compairing (almost) 2 different thing.
While i know that both of Novel and Manga still a form of art what makes it different is the presentation.
Like, of course that web-novel in the form of Text, and manga/comic in the from of drawing. But dude, we read Manga/Comic not only for the story but also the ART of it, it's the part of the story telling it self 😭😭
And thats why i also do believe both of the medium has their Uniquenes in their own, just like we read the novel to see all manners of Text and Dialog that the creator has cook for us, in manga/comic we read it to see all kind of Plot and Art that the creator cook for us!

While you do have that 1% that make peak, the fact anyone can make webnovels means the medium has no quality guarantee unlike published books or manga which normally require at least some degree of talent to make it past publishers (not to say there isn’t a lot of trash in those mediums, there are)

Another great thing about webnovels is that you can create or find fanfictions of already existing or past franchises(Be it Manga, Anime, western movies, or series). There are fanfics on One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, or any other well-received manga/anime/TV series/movies and they are pretty decent depending on what angle you wanted the story to go into(Original main character dying, the what-if moment, then what would happen if a character from another franchise/anime was ever transported into their world) since there are niches to choose from.
Fair warning, most of the fanfics are made from the author's "Vivid" imagination so they can reaaaaaaaallly stretch how the story would go, like becoming a Saiyan in Naruto or having the ability to literally have every possible advantage known in their respective universe or a harem seeking story cause why not.
There are, however, some fanfics that make a great story if the authors have continued their work, they have their own issues and most series have to be dropped.
Ironically, Chinese fanfic webnovels are numerous and have their own website, if you find a decently translated novel, you will find yourself a great novel to read. Decent being that the names, phrases, and references are translated correctly instead of being machine-generated.

2:49 better story telling and in depth story are not valid points you have 'establised'. They are completely different mediums. Those are subjective and completely based on the mangaka and authors. Many people cant visualize fight scenes too, meanwhile, no novel can come close to the shit muraka draws (Imagination might beat art, but imagination differs drastically from person to person, and more people lack the artistic imagination than i want to admit). Please dont make such comparision videos, let people enjoy what they like and dont be an elitist

Mainly because of the webnovel industry is very mature in China. China webnovel app is like Japanese manga magazines where there are a lot of polls and instant reader feedback and most importantly: money. If your novel is popular you can make tens of thousands of dollars per day. It really bring in the best talent to be full time writers.

This is pure bs. "webnovels have better story telling and in depth story", what are you even talking about. Manga's like chainsaw man have much better story telling, just look at its paneling. In that, characters dont talk what's on their, mind, their actions talk for them. Mangas and animated medium have a clear edge on visual depiction. As for your imagination point, many people dont want to put effort into imagining things of that scale, not many can imagine things like that. And the way you say manga's have pretty pictures is insulting to the artist who spend so much of their time trying to improve. You are clearly just an elitist reader, who thinks he is all that jus cuz you read, and others consume other forms. At the end of the day, both of us are reading or seeing these just for entertainment, and it doesnt matter which form of media you consume. (Also, i am on chapter 357 of lotm, upto the point where amon is introduced and almost invades area above the gray fog, and read 2000 chapters of shadow slave, while also read many mangas and manhwas, so i can speak for both)
