As a former top 5 author who stopped writing because of university. The most important thing is your ability to grab attention with something that's broad and appealing, but ends up being engaging and unique. Make sure your first few chapters are AMAZING, because Webnovels are kinda like fast food, people's attention spans won't last past the first 3 chapters. Enter a contest: usually WSA will do well. Go with the flow. As a Webnovel Author, you will most likely be writing 1 chapter a day. Don't overthink things and stress out. Start writing and ideas will come to you faster than you think as you just write. Stack up chapters. Have a surpluss of chapters just in case for days you can't write. Tho it is weird since a lot of the times getting hints and feedback from readers can help steer your novel in the right direction. Experience silence more often, like on the toilet don't bring your phone, ideas will come to you.
Why would you stop writing if you were a top five author? There has to be a way you can make more money with that. Not to mention it would be more fulfilling to use your unique talent than get a degree?
@@zackrooz4260 Yes, Webnovel pretty much owns your work and can pretty much do whatever they want with it. And they do take a sizable cut from income that comes from privilege, coins, and gifts. But, I've never actually seen them enforce most things on those contacts. All in all I'd say it's pretty worth it. A lot better than Patreon and Royal Road imo.
Got 150 collections and 25k views on webnovel in 3 days and I haven't written anything in my life before. English is not even my main language. Your video inspired me to just go ahead and write something. It's a fanfic though so perhaps these numbers are bad.
Great Video, really enjoyed you talking about the contract and how you usually do your chapters etc. To anyone reading this comment, I can only recommend this Novel, it's a great read and picks up the pace fast. Also, I'm happy to continue supporting the novel in the future, keep up the work :D
This video was actually very eye opening about some of the shady practices WebNovel does. Completely unrelated but I’ve been really liking novel and learning about how you make it was very cool. ❤
[if I made a mistake in the comment let me know] As a contracted author on webnovel (kind of thinking of leaving it), I have been pretty frustrated with them. Honestly speaking, webnovel stricts a person freedom and sort of controls author as long as they are contracted. I'm not good with english at all, its my third language and i even suck at my own native language. The first frustrating thing for me was there first 4 months daily chapter releasing rule, like it was said in the video 1,500 words if not fulfilled, I don't know maybe no money at all, (not even if you write, that tier thing sucks) Because of this 4 month rule, I who didnt know about stock pile(its like having 30 or more chapters already written in their pocket and just need to upload them), had to complete a whole 1,500 words chapter in a day. Then I might even miss many words and the whole chapter becomes like a dry tastless potato chips. Then there's the editor you get, Mine one barely felt like he cares if I'm having a probpem or not. Although I dont hate webnovel, but If someone sign contract, and doesn't actually know about stock pile thing that authors do and are plantser or pantser, then you should, rather find better website, or have a proper outline and work prepared to be uploaded, (know that webnovel mostly have Chinese work and not all of them are good except for few like shadow slave, supreme magus etc) Don't hope for comics, according to my research (not from google but from observing and understanding), I haven't seen comics on webnovel that aren't Chinese (even if there are like the man said, very very less chance), since they want the culture and name everything to be Chinese stuff then Hoping for a comic is only by earning and asking some artist to help you out. About earning, I had talked to one of the big authors on webnovel JKsManga, yes they earn alot but a low level author can't reach there easily. Earning depends on how your work performance and how much people purchase your chapters and give you giftes and yes, webnovel doesnt share the details of how much exaxtly was earned from the novel and only how give you money without letting you how much you make can be more or alot (not less if so they will give you less). I also want to still improve myself and still search websites to experiment on which is tapas,(tapas has this good thing and also bad thing, No A.I generated covers are allowed plus I still have to see eveything, who knows what I face there) If there's something I missed out or you didnt get anything let me know since I'm not good explainer.
@@Alientarsier I have no idea about scribble hub, but royal road is alright but there's no contract, you have to make a patreon or PayPal so if people want to donate you money, they can through that.
This is so cool to watch and very helpful, im actually about to finally start writing two webnovels that I have been working on for 2 years soon and was wondering if webnovel was a good place to post it or not so this was helpful, thanks :) Also insane that u just wrote it without planning, Ive been doing the world building and characters for these past two years now, cant imagine just jumping into it just like that 😭 I suppose that is the difference between a gardener and architect 😅

You can't edit the chapter! The locked chapter, which was the paid chapter. You can't edit this chapter later after it's locked. You can only edit 100 words per chapter for locked chapters. If you asked me, "Then why can I edit it right now?" It's because it's still not locked. Ask the webnovel if you dont believe me. Since you already have the contract, you already have their contact information. And believe me, preparing some chapters before hand is important. Real world is like a surprise box; I never know what will come.
Didn't they doing heavy censorship now? My favorite author who created "my haunted house of horror" webnovel, removing all the rituals from his newer work. It's very boring.

Not trashing you buddy but doorbound(your novel) has only 20 chapters and noway its popular yet so change the title of the video to how to post your novel rather then how to write a novel

Isn't the 50% rule technically irrelevant? If you make $100, you still get $100 because it gets rounded to $200, and if you make $200, then you still get $200. Is the only scenario where it becomes a loss when you get more than $200?
As a non contracted Author you can not have premium chapters those are only for people who have signed. For me a discord is something I have been thinking about but haven't started yet because I rarely use it.
