    • @Xanofar
      @Xanofar 7 лет назад +51

      Donald Trump initially rejected "Make America Great Again" because he thought it was so bad that nobody would actually take to it. It's exactly the same, because it claims to make a "Change" but specifies nothing.
      I wouldn't call "I'm With Her" vague since it says exactly what it means: "I'm voting for Hillary Clinton". It's a statement more than a call to anything.
      I was always under the impression that "Feel The Bern" was more of a satirical rallying cry, since it was such an intentionally silly phrase (plus, it's hardly original, which I think was kind of the joke).
      EDIT:
      To perhaps put it more simply (or better):
      What happens if you ask "how"/"what" to the slogan.
      I'm with her?
      How?
      I'm voting for her.
      Change. (or basically *any* of Obama's 2008 slogans, really)
      What?
      Well...
      Make America Great Again!
      How?
      Well...

    Did The Onion actually predict that his rethoric was empty here?

    • @SJNaka101
      @SJNaka101 6 лет назад +28

      Cheydinal I think most people that look critically at a candidate's history could see the writing on the wall. I'm not talking about right wingers who just agree with whatever red scare rhetoric was thrown his way, I mean there were definitely left leaning people that could see he was always destined to uphold the status quo. I wasn't one of them, but it didn't take long after seeing the deportations and drone strikes to see he was just business as usual.

    • @Holly7500
      @Holly7500 5 лет назад

      How was his rhetoric empty? He accomplished a lot

    • @cheydinal5401
      @cheydinal5401 5 лет назад +7

      @@Holly7500 His rhetoric implied he would try to end corruption, give people healthcare, in other words change the political system. He just caved half-way to Republicans, even when he had a supermajority. Also he kept on fighting and even starting wars.

    • @Holly7500
      @Holly7500 5 лет назад +1

      Did he make some empty promises? Sure, every politician does. He gave healthcare to tens of millions of Americans. It's been a long time so I doubt you remember but American healthcare was insanely terrible before the ACA. The ACA isn't perfect but it's still much better than what we had before. He didn't cave to Republicans when he had a supermajority. The public option on the ACA was voted down by Joe Lieberman, a Democrat. Republicans were very, very obstructionist.
      The idea of pulling out of our current conflicts is completely ridiculous btw. We need to sit there and finish the job. The problem is that we kicked over sand castles and then didn't spend the time money to rebuild the place with inclusive institutions and liberal leaders.
      Obama was the first black president, got two supreme court picks, had gay marriage legalized under his presidency, created the ACA, gave the signal on a risky raid to kill Osama Bin Laden, lifted the Cuban embargo, created the Iran Deal, put tough regulations on wall street after 2008, put tough regulations on the environment and put America into the Paris Climate Accord, and created a stimulus package which made our recovery from the recession mostly smooth.

    • @cheydinal5401
      @cheydinal5401 5 лет назад +8

      @@Holly7500 The ACA was literally a Republican healthcare plan, that Mitt Romney put in place as governor, it was literally invented by the Heritage Foundation. If doing the Republican plan isn't caving, what is?
      He kept on taking money from the healthcare industry. The Iran deal was great. The Paris Accord was as much as he could do with a Republican Congress. But he didn't just keep the wars, he started new ones, trying to topple leaders in Syria and Lybia, while actively supporting the war in Yemen, led by the brutal dictator in Saudi Arabia. This isn't about helping people, unfortunately. BTW when has Congress declared war on Yemen?
      He did pardon non-violent marihuana users.
      Overall, in some areas he did some positive change, even if it wasn't far enough IMO but ok still. In others he actively did harm, like the war in Yemen
