Just stumbled across this tutorial from years ago and it caught my eye. I love the gold. And the end product is so gorgeous . How did you make the gold sequins? Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜
Shi hello very beautiful cake🍰 I love it. I just have a quick question , is there something else u can use instead of vodka. ? Little kids at party. Thank you so much for your time!!
Hi! Thanks so much! You can use lemon extract if you feel better with that. Also an fyi, the vodka does completely evaporate but it is your call! The lemon extract may take longer to dry. So just plan accordingly:)
lagcraig62 Thank you;) that question is a controversial one. Some would say yes, but the truth is to get the bright gold finish, it does have some metal in the product. There are some completely edible products out but I find that they are dull. Such a small amount is consumed that it wont hurt anybody. But you can always use it only on a fake tier or tell the cosutmer so that they can remove the sequins if they prefer to. Confetti sprinkles are what I use to get the look of the sequins and they are completely edible. I do have another video showing how I make those. ;)
lagcraig62 sorry I just saw your question! I answer tha5 question on my other video that shows how I make the sequins. That may be easier then me typing it all out;)
thanks for the response. I'm in Botswana. I thought you used something different from confetti. I use old icing sheets at times of i can't find confetti. ta xx
Paula's new venture you can do either. If you use buttercream adhere them before it crusts. If you use fondant you can brush on piping gel first for them to stick to.;)
Linda Abraham Hi! part one is the video of the piped buttercream rosette tier and part 2 is the gold stenciled tier. I don't have a video at this time showing how I made the sequins yet. I have had questions about that so I need to find time to make a tutorial on that also;) hopefully I can get to that fairly soon! Wedding season has started so time is a little short right now;) thank you so much for the question!
I have not done it, but I would guess probably not? Adding the gold is what I would be worried about. Even though the alcohol evaporates, it is wet for a while and I don't know how that would interact with the cream.
Laurel Watler it really depends on the size of the cake but I would say 1 large bottle by wilton would cover a 6" . 1 1/2 for an 8". And probably 2 for a 10". I think they are 4.8 ounces?
Hi! Sorry I just saw your question:( I am new to You Tube. I actually get the confetti sprinkles you can buy at some hobby stores or cake supply stores. If you don't have those near you, you can get them at Amazon. I combine gold luster dust and vodka in a ziplock bag. Add the sprinkles and mix it all together to coat. Then spread them out on a lined cookie sheet and let them dry. Make sure that you separate them as much as you can so you don't end up with clumps. You can also get the same look by coating a buttercream cake with them and then airbrushing with the same gold and vodka mixture. Just thin it out a little more to avoid clogging up your airbrush. If you don't have an airbrush, put them on and then brush it on like I did in this video. It may just take more coats. I hope this helps!

Do you add the sequence directly to the buttercream? Or fondant?
Paula's new venture you can do either. If you use buttercream adhere them before it crusts. If you use fondant you can brush on piping gel first for them to stick to.;)

@@sophisticakesbymary ok thnks
hi there! how and what did you use to color those confetti gold?
Hi there! I like to use gold luster dust with vodka. If it is for a fake tier I will use the gold highlighter with vodka to get a more shiny finish.
Thank you so much! Ill keep that in mind.
Typically I use luster dust and vodka:) If it is a fake tier I will use gold highlighter and vodka. It is brighter but not edible.
what was the specific name of the gold you used
?
For this one I used Divine Specialties hold dust. You can find it at www.divinespecialties.com;)
How many grams of sequins did you use?
Laurel Watler it really depends on the size of the cake but I would say 1 large bottle by wilton would cover a 6" . 1 1/2 for an 8". And probably 2 for a 10". I think they are 4.8 ounces?
