    Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners' real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiasts. I contact each person who sends me their videos to talk with them and learn more about their story and to follow up on what happened after what we see on their video. Voice-over and captions are added to describe what happened, and why. I believe that this additional information regarding the incident gives the videos a newsworthy value.
    From the footage and additional information, a viewer can learn the consequences of bad driving and can educate his/her self with better driving safety. This process also gives the videos a great educational value. It is my desire to add my own unique and creative value in a transformative way to ensure you enjoy and learn from the videos being presented.

    So apparently, you were supposed to do The Tunnel Test in daylight... Well, that makes sense now that I think of it! haha! But hey, here we have it - the world's first INVERTED tunnel test. I bet everyone will test their cameras this way from now on. And now you can't complain about it since I commented about it first.

      I´m sorry but the point clearly goes to the Dashcam in that regard... you can see that the Image from the Dashcam stays clear and no taillights go up and down from the Truck... the Teslacam goes really bad and is not staying sharp... and when the car goes into the Tunnel the Teslacam goes more Yellow/Darker for a few Seconds.
      If you compare it Side by Side the Dascam Footage is clearer and sharper in my Opinion.
      It is a great addition if you dont own one... i plan to get one in December or January myself
      Just a quick note if you want to have GPS enabled and you got a heated front Windshield you HAVE to put that Cam in the dotted Area around the rearview Mirror otherwise it will not work.

    For the high-speed test, what they are talking about is if you get on the freeway and maybe go over the speed limit a little bit and then try to freeze frame the footage to capture things that you would want to see like street signs and license plates. Follow up video? You could include a daylight tunnel segment.... 😂

      Tesla gets the license plate number because of their narrow angle lens and distance focus.

    • @thegameblend
      @thegameblend 6 месяцев назад +1

      tesla has the most powerful optics. it includes a long range camera that can see up to 200m, a standard lens, and a ultra wide angle lens. so optics definitely go for tesla. talk about a dashcam that can do that. Where tesla seemed to lack (fixed in hardware 4) is color. Image brightness was more important so tesla used a RCCB image sensor. it cannot perceive green but did better towards image brightness as there were no filters to reduce incoming light. Autopilot didn't really care, may have been in fact happier of the brighter low light images.

    • @egaskrad
      @egaskrad 6 месяцев назад

      @@thegameblend Some of the Viofo latest dashcam, such as the a119 mini 2, a139 pro and a229 pro, use the Sony Starvis 2 Sensor which only came out in 2023 April. For those who do not know, dashcam has 3 major components that matter: sensor, cpu and firmware. CPU deal with image processing speed and firmware the functionality, but the sensor is the most important part. Tesla cam is 1280 x 980 resolutions at 30 frames per second while Starvis 2 sensor can go 4k 60fps or 2k 120fps. If you see it in this clip that the quality of the front cam is not too far off, it is because Waam Baam has put the 4k video side by side with the 720p video. If he put the 2 videos side by side and pixel to pixel, you will see the Viofo camera have so much more details and most of the time a clear plate number. Viofo also has HDR mode which makes low light image capturing a lot better and the high frame rate makes capturing the plate of a high speed car (cars going in the opposite direction, thus high relative velocity) so much better.

My old '98 Chevy Tahoe might be losing it's paint but even then, not having to worry about liability is too much of a bonus not to get a good cam!

    You missed a few very important features. 1. How far away do license plates read clearly in daytime and night? 2. Tesla has sentry mode that seems to have no drain on the battery. I know VIOFO has a similar parking mode, but it has to be hard wired to the car's electrical system. I have 2 cars ( Kia Sorento, Infiniti QX80 ) with 4 VIOFOs in each one, facing front, rear, left and right. All the angles are covered. Great camera, highly recommended. Upgraded optics would be awesome! 🙂

      pretty much any dashcam you can just get a power cord that literally just plugs into your fuse box for when the car is off and on. I have been doing it for years across multiple cars and cameras.

    • @GReaper
      @GReaper 5 месяцев назад +1

      Number 1 was definitely a surprise to me to not be covered.
      Number 2: Telsa wins for convenience. However, My own vehicle with the parking sentry enabled on a dual cam system can easily last 3 or 4 days and still leave enough power to start the vehicle. Thankfully, hardwire kits generally have a shutdown point that, in theory, leaves enough juice to still start the car. I would recommend using an AGM battery in your vehicle if it's going to sit more than a day on a regular basis without being started, as flooded (normal) lead acid batteries hate being discharged much, especially often. Keep in mind that Tesla has a MASSIVE battery to draw from though, so not really a fair comparison.

    One of the German dashcam channels released a test of the A229pro today or yesterday. He noted, if you leave out the interior camera, the bit rate of the main cam raises from 36 to 59 MBit/s. This causes a marked jump in clarity of the recorded image, especially in scenes with lots of fine moving details, e.g. with lots of leaves on trees.
    Edit: I checked, he released 3 hours ago... 8-)

      @@infinite_simulation668 Exactly. This is 10000% the problem with 'high res' dash cameras... they try to do everything on ONE CHIP which halves (or worse) the resolution and framerate. NO company out there (yet) offers any dash cameras where each satellite camera has its own processing chip and associated hardware to allow them to capture at the same rate and resolution as the primary camera.

    • @GReaper
      @GReaper 5 месяцев назад +3

      Some of the limitation is is also just bandwidth available to write to the SD card. If you have say, 35MB/s of bandwidth, you have to share that with ALL video streams. So in order to keep within that bandwidth limit, you might have say: 4K on one cam at 35MB/s; or 2K on two cams at 17 MB/s each; or 2K on one cam at 17MB/s, one on 1080p at 12MB/s, and one on 720p at 6 MB/s. Of course, framerate will also change to accomplish this. These numbers aren't meant to be realistic, they're just for comparison.

    one critical feature is the ability to real license plates - I have seen so many times on this channel when the plates are illegible to TeslaCam.
    I will admit that the multiple angles and the built in function on the Tesla are better than nothing but comparing older generation of hardware against newer dashcams is night and day. I would like to see the current HW compared to the current dashcam for an oranges to oranges comparison. And once again - license plat reading is a must.
    You would need to add this test during the day and during the night to give a real result - I forgot the site name but they did a slew of tests and published the results - like this one they were not paid by any of the manufacturers, but they did have affiliate links so if you purchased thru them they got something.

    Having such crisp video off a dashcam is a massive plus!
    Even though I already have a dashcam in my 2012 Honda Civic (I was featured in a video here a few months back!), its unfortunately not the greatest quality.
    Its WiFi transfer ability sucks as well, as the app recommended doesn't work well with Android phones, so I always have to pull the MicroSD card if I want to share video.

    I love the side-by-side comparison. The Wham Baam channels are the best cam videos on RUclips. They're the only ones which feel so expertly edited with catchy music, great narration, and amusing jingles. Keep it up!
    My hubby always sets the cruise in his 2018 Mazda CX-9 to the speed limit, so we see a lot of antics from drivers who don't appreciate a restraint of the zoom-zoom. Alas, we haven't yet decided on a dashcam to capture the astonishing feats of stupidity. The A229 PRO might have just won the race.

    One thing that should be noted on the Viofo is you have the option to spend like 20 more bucks for a bluetooth capture button for it that you can put wherever the eff you want. Lot more ergonomic (not to mention more safe and less distracting) than fumbling with the physically identical buttons on the cam.
    I put mine in my vintage car's change tray where my phone lived before I could finally afford a holder, lol.

      While nice to have, especially for just catching those jackasses to pull off later, it's not totally necessary. I just make sure the G-Sensor is enabled on my cam. In the event of something serious happening, it'll autosave the footage without any user interaction. Even a hard brake event will trigger it. It's not uncommon for many cams to also prompt you to reformat the SD card ever so often, and the purpose of that is to clear out any unwanted secured footage.

    I have a 2 camera dashcam setup in my 2012 Accord. It isn’t the brand you recommended and I have to remove a mini SD card to download the footage. It would be interesting to see the features and the user interface of the system you recommend.

    Great video with the side by side comparisons with the Tesla cams. My son drives a Subaru Forester and just removed the cheap dash cam in favor of a carplay device (without a dash cam) so he could more easily navigate. It would be nice to have a quality dash cam for my son's vehicle.

    I have two cars with much older Viofo dash cams in them. I got them before 2 channel cams were common, so I have separate cameras aimed for and aft. Not good for coordinating front and rear vids, but, at least, I have them. The cams are nearly six years old. And still going. I tried a Rexing dash cam, but it barely made two years in my Pajero. My Pajero now has the Viofo 129 2 channel in it. Going well after three months.

    I currently drive 2011 Toyota Corolla S, we have dashcam & looking for an upgrade. I like crispness of the video quality of the dashcam. I also like the VIOFO has the built in microphone which would be great for calling out license plate numbers just in case it’s not picked up on the camera video clearly.

    Great video. Thanks. I drive a 2000 Ford Focus Hatchback. Alas, the fusebox is under the hood, which will make wiring a bit difficult if I don't want unsightly wires sticking out of my cigarette lighter socket. If I ever finish converting my 1988 Honda CRX Si to electric drive, I'll put the dashcam in that car instead of in the Focus.
