You have thought things through very well here, not surprising given your experience I suppose, and this should give customers confidence. Enjoying this series.
Hi Phil nice vid. when I was looking at a stereo system for the front room (UK) I tried a couple of what were very well regarded floorstanders but they just overwhelmed the room so tested some bookshelf speakers and ended up with a pair of Quad's sounded great. So would always recomend someone tested at home before jumping in thinking biggest is best. Keep the vid's coming
Going from my personal experience, I suspect that these sort of recommended systems may work well for source and amplification, but speakers are another story. No only because different people like different sound, but because of the need to match room to speaker. For example, I have a pair of Dali Oberon 5s which Phil mentions here as a good but slightly out of budget alternative to the AE 109s, and in my normal listening room they sound very good. But I have experimented moving the whole system into a larger room (nearer to the size Phil mentions here) and they sounded very thin, and it quickly went back to the original room!
Simple Vinyl system. Takes me back to Oct 1986 as a student when I invested my Summer job money on a system from Sevenoaks HiFi. Dual CS505-2 Deluxe, Rotel RA820BX, AR18BX. Later on the first upgrade I made was to swap out the Ortofon cartridge for a Goldring G1010, made a huge difference not bettered until I bought Royd Minstrels. Always chasing the next upgrade!
I totally agree with Phil on his much earlier vlog - if listening to music is your main priority - Do not chose an AV reciever over a traditional 2 channel amplifier. 🎶
Go Elex Mark 4 with built in MM phono stage and a decent DAC for digital source upgrade. New Elex works lovely with P2/3/6…this is the best path at this level imo.
Floorstanders have similar footprint to stand mount + you don't need to buy stands. Agree best you get floorstanders for the lower frequency response. 🎶
If one isnt familiar with the product brand/ model names, its very difficult to figure them out here. (i understand everything else you say except the names.) Would be very helpful if you wrote the names in the description.
Would be nice if you linked the components in a “more” drop menu as I have no clue what speakers you picked. I won’t make any suggestions as I am in the U.S. and I don’t know what brands you sell. Always up for picking a cost point number and reverse engineering a system video.
You can mix and match. If a dealer had in his/her trade in stock say a P6 then being able to stretch your source components level of performance by purchase that with a warrenty would pay dividends. Doesn't alter the basic rightness of what is being suggested for this scenario.
Didn't mention a cd player or cables either. Having said that, when I worked at Sevenoaks we were always told if someone has a budget of 'x' they can afford more.
Agree that vinyl is not a budget pursuit, especially when you factor in your cartridge, and at least compared to a budget dac. Of course, this is not to say that a turntable system is not worth it, especially if you prefer that budget analog sound.
Vinyl is really not budget. DACs much more bang for the buck and sounds much better nowadays in the budget category, vinyl takes a life of its own with better tables and expensive carteidges. Thats not budget territory. Easier to use tubes on Dacs ie preamp/amp and high efficiency speakers.
Not true. My P2 with Goldring E3 and tube phono stage easily sounds as good as my more expensive and very good digital front end. Depends on the record too.
@kristofvadnai7468 You may really like the analog sound but vinyl at the high end is closer to digital you get a black background and little pops scratches if any with dynamics with all the benefits of analog. Great you can fully appreciate budget gear. In my case I find vinyl distortions too glaring in the budget gear. Try tube pre and amps with good Dacs you will find it also nice plus you have the convenience of streaming all the music you could think of! If your on a budget vinyl is also expensive to buy all those records but personally I find vinyl better but appreciate Dacs with tubes in the system acceptable even budget Dacs in a high resolution high end system. Cheers.

I’m surprised you choosed the atoll over the rega elex ;)
My first system in 1981: Dual CS505-2 Turntable, Nagaoki MP11 Cartridge, NAD 3020A Amp and Wharfdale Laser 40 Speakers.

I really like your reviews ,I find them truthful .
Thanks for making this video...

I recommend the P2 to a friend getting back into it and he loves the thing. Ortifon red now and I told him the blue would be a decent upgrade.

What about CD player and subwoofer?
Very interesting video!

Not had a review of the Atoll IN200 yet Phil.. thinking of pairing with Neat Mystique.. thoughts..?😊
Atoll + Neat Mystique Classic will work pretty well.
Great video as usual Phil !!!
Didn't mention a digital source, cd?

i think phil said acoustic energy AE 109 for the floorstander speakers,he did say it a bit quick😄

@@middleearthltd your welcome😃
I didn’t understand any of the components. Add some captions for those of us in the US next time please.
One can also think about buying second hand. For the same money as new, you have a much better system.

You can get some great deals on outgoing hi Fi models.
Thanks to trickle down technology even entry level new hi Fi can sound surprising good 🎶
You’ll need a phono preamp as well.
Started in the basement
Moved to the roof top 😊
I’m missing what phono stage you recommend with this.
Didn't mention a cd player or cables either.
Having said that, when I worked at Sevenoaks we were always told if someone has a budget of 'x' they can afford more.
I would simply add the internal phono stage that Atoll offer. I've got the p100 in my in200 signature. No issues with it.
Rega YES YES YES , I,ve a REGA 50th Annaversiry edtion a lot of DEck for the money , with my old Cambridge A60 Amp.
Hi there which speakers are you recommending
I couldn’t hear that either - any idea anyone?
Acoustic energy 109 I think
Yes...acoustic energy ae109 mk2

Stopped the video once you said £2.5k your idea of “Budget “ is obviously different to mine 😂
Rega Aya please….
I’d rather have the Rega amplifier elex R
Great of you to say the names of the products fast and unclearly and then not list them in the video description 😂
Phil, bigger speakers need less amplification. Schoolboy error
I'd choose a Turntable with a changeable head shell instead

Very high proportion of advertising to actual content!!!! .
I always thought my system was a bottom basement basic beginner set up?
Rega P6
Rega Apollo
Rega Brio
Rega RX1
A bottom end basic starter system can be purchased for around the same price as the Rega P6.
Not high end, but certainly not bottom of the heap.
@@richardsinger01. Define high end? I am curious as to what sort of start up money would classify your set up as such.
Those are nice components
Eliminate physical media and you can get a nice streaming system for $2,500 and then add vinyl or CDs as your budget allows
