  • It has been nearly 67 years since Emmett Till was abducted, tortured and lynched in Mississippi after the 14-year-old Black boy from Chicago was accused of making "advances" at a White woman. In an amazing discovery last week, a team searching a Mississippi courthouse basement for evidence in the case uncovered an unserved 1955 arrest warrant charging that same woman for Till's kidnapping. Included in that team were relatives of Till. They are now calling for the woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham, now in her eighties, to be arrested. Deborah Watts, cousin of Emmett Till, joins Joy Reid saying, "Carolyn needs to be brought to justice."

There is no statute of limitations on murder. She needs to be arrested, indicted, and tried. She needs to pay for her crime, if she is tried and judged guilty. EVERYONE must follow the law, no matter race, creed, gender, or economic status!

Also, read look magazine's old article. It is a leftwing magazine who tracked down the killers 50 years ago. That's when they admitted it, after the trial. Even in that story it mentions how they got in that house and went in the room and asked "Are you the boy who violated my wife" and Emmett Till replied "Yeah". Lol. Then we also know that the family was very apologetic for what he had done. They even let them take the boy without putting up any fight. They asked if the boy could be whipped and beaten there by the men, without being taken. They tried to haggle over that, but never did anyone argue he was innocent. Not until much later when the story started being revised to fit a certain narrative.

Her testimony was written off as likely false by the judge and he didn't allow her to be seen in front of a jury. Her lie makes her a perjurer and that's about it.
Other people, including black folks, talked in that town and that's what got Till killed at the hands of two violent people. Carolyn Bryant was merely a clerk involved in the initial incident because Till had chosen to flaunt social norms for there. He didn't deserve to die. The courts deserved to prosecute the killers at the time of the incident much better than the fake trial and acquittal that occurred. Now? Who does the prosecution put on the stand to prove she had a role in Till's death? Everyone involved is dead.

Some people will think that it’s ridiculous that an 80 something year old woman be arrested for a crime from over 60 years ago. But that crime lead to the brutal murder of a young man. A boy. What if we would have said the same thing about the golden state killer? “Ah, he’s too old, just let it be.” Why should this be any different? This woman got to live her life, be a mother, a grandmother, have her freedom, and Emmitt didn’t. All because of her lies. Charge her.
