Great video 😎👍🏽 Reminds me of 36 years ago today..Wednesday 25th July 1984, after a whole days spotting on Birmingham New Street, we got the late running 1V92 13:20 Glasgow-Swansea back home to South Wales behind 50035 “Ark Royal” - 86256 “Pebble Mill” hastily gave way to 50035 as the service was 55 late. We had a very spirited run back to Wales with “Ark Royal” via Gloucester and Chepstow and we managed to gain 10 minutes back by Cardiff 😀👍🏽🎉🎉 I loved the 50’s, temperamental machines, but when driven by a driver that knew how to handle them properly, they were fantastic power houses 😀👍🏽🎉
I loved reading your comment mate, they were such brilliant days compared to what we have now to travel on. In them days It was a 24 hour service around most parts of the country. Thanks again for your comment, and for watching my video sir.
@@antman09ful1 no problem...yes if only we could wind the clock back to the 1980’s 😀😎👍🏽 I remember that day huge excitement at New Street as the 06:25 Poole-Manchester was seen leaving Leamington Spa in the hands of “bagpipe” 33111 😧 We all thought we would see it at New Street but it was swapped at Coventry for 86243 😢 The bagpipe then worked a later Manchester-Brighton back south from Coventry. I remember seeing 50008 and 50036 that day at New Street along with 47560 “Tamar” working a Poole-Glasgow, 47480 “Robin Hood”, 47470 “University of Edinburgh” working up from the South West, 45001 “peak” on a York to Plymouth, 45106 and 45119 also made appearances that day as did 47544, 47510 “Fair Rosamund” and 45137 “The Beds & Herts Regiment TA” which was leaving on a Leeds-Cardiff as we arrived on 253051 (43183&43184) working the 07:00 Plymouth-Newcastle (that train was packed by Bristol...we had to scramble for seats) - the sun was shining 😎☀️🌴 it was the first time I had got to see the AC Electrics...I loved it...I remember taking photos of 87005, 87019, 86103, 86243 plus 87006 “City of Glasgow” in a new large number and logo livery with a grey background 👀😀👍🏽 watching all that loco swapping was fascinating too...that day will always stick in my mind as one of the best days ever observing trains 😎👍🏽
hello Mike, great video of the class 50s, they look great, unlike this new generation emu which looks ghastly compared with the 4cor units and the 60s units the 4cigs. which i remember.
One of my fave locomotives the class 50, I didn't know they were still in use , seeing as I'm not an actual railway enthusiast and know bugger all, very enjoyable vid btw, live the editing. 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
@@antman09ful1 I suppose you could say they were stored, ran on preserved railways etc for over 25 years then a few brought back into near daily use. Obviously they were used on the odd railtour too.
They are called match wagons. It's because the units do not have standard couplers so the wagons have standard on one end and ones compatible with the units on the other end
Excellent video really captured the sound of these historic locomotives, can you please tell me what the name on 50034 as i seen it in the gbrf charter months ago and it was 50007 one side and 50014 warspite on the other?
Yeah I believe the number 50034 was put on when they did a charter out of London Victoria to Worcester about a month ago, but pleased tell me if I am wrong. Thank you for watching my footage.
Wasn't It 40 that crashed outside Paddington while working a sleeper, I remember my first sighting of a class 50 at Tamworth working a Euston to Glasgow, I nearly jumped of of my skin at the sound of it doing 100mph. Thank you for your interest pal.
@@antman09ful1 yes m8 the original fifty did make a great noise at speed do you remember the cooling slats on the sides I remember when they used to open and close
Great video Mike, got some good sounds there as it departed Derby, really impressive.
Glad you enjoyed it the hoovers Matthew.
They look immaculate and sound superb. Great to see these loco’s still at work.
Too right Bryan, I was pleased I went out on this day, which to the date was 15 years since I retired.

Fine sight. Was lucky enough to see this working passing Trowell Junction. Thanks.
There is a footbridge with good views especially coming south towards Toton.
Yes I went there once about five years ago or It could have been longer than that Peter. Cheers Mike.
Great video Mike!! Lovely 50 action! Beautiful sounds and thrash too! Shame no clag.
Well yes but I did see clag when It left the works Jacob, so we cant have everything can we. Mike.
Excellent footage of the class 50 locos Mike with a nice sound from 49 on departure out of the station.
Allan I was going to go out on the Thursday, but I'm so glad I didn't because the hoover went back to SVR on the Thursday. Cheers Mike.
Good to hear a 50 again, I used to see them nip through Wimbledon on the Waterloo Exeter trains.
Yeah Phil that was the service they got finished on in the early 90s, thank you for your interest in my video. Regards Mike.,
The unmistakable sound of a Hoover.....great video Mike. Would have popped up to say hello if I had known you were knocking around!
Oh that was bad luck Julian, I was on my way to the Peak District.
Great catches Mike. Got to love those 50s in GBRf livery 😁
I could film Hoover and Tractors all day Ben.
Can remember seeing my first 50, 50 035 heading south at Derby from Doncaster in undercoat. Many moon's ago
Thanks for your comment Stephen, yes they were great days when the hoovers went to Doncaster to have a refurb, and travelled into the Midlands.
I looove the way there like twins there never seen appart for more that a day
Gotta love class 50’s they maybe be one of the older diesels on the network but they pack a real punch! Well done mate

Tony give me a Hoover or Tractor five days a week. Cheers Mike.

Peter I agree with all you have said, you are like me you don't like change when It comes to the railways. Thanks for viewing Mike.

Thanks for your truthful comment, there are three class 50s passed to run on National Rail.

Can someone assuage my ignorance. Why do the loco's have goods wagons between the and the new unit,
They are called match wagons. It's because the units do not have standard couplers so the wagons have standard on one end and ones compatible with the units on the other end
They look like parcel vans or barrier vans.
@@paulaisbitt1180 ta 👍
Nice one Paul, thanks for explaining to Paul Aisbitt.
Ex Parcel Van they are.
Nice one Mike I actually went to derby to film the 50s , but a different day to you
Oh ok, so you must have gone on Monday or Tuesday.
Can't beat that V16 thrash.
So right Paul, thanks for watching.
Was expecting a load of clag to accompany the great sound!!!!!!
You and me both but It did clag coming off the works.
Excellent video really captured the sound of these historic locomotives, can you please tell me what the name on 50034 as i seen it in the gbrf charter months ago and it was 50007 one side and 50014 warspite on the other?
34 was named ‘Furious’.
Thanks Andy for the answer.

GREAT LOCO PITY WE DIDNT SEE MORE IN DERBY
I agree Derby has lost a lot of freight traffic but you still have the test trains Phil.
Great sound Mike. Almost as good as a 37 on full throttle 😋🤣
Yes I will agree with you Paul, like me you also get a buzz from both class's. Mike.
Cracking thrash from the 50's 👍
I loved it David, for me it was well worth stopping off there when on my way to the Peak District.
excellent catch of the 50s
Thank you very much Barry, you have a 50 down your way next Saturday I believe.

My god. What a Larynx.

Just a medium OK.
That's not real trash. But I'll give you a thumbs up.
They used to really thrash up the hill out of Manchester Victoria, when on diversions while the WCML was being electrified in early 70's. Happy days.
Well In them days they just let the rip.
OK mate.
