Just bought 2 FLG-5's. One with a 1.3mm tip for the base and clear, and one with a 1.8mm for the primer. Couldn't be happier! Such a cost effective gun.
Between you and the gunman I bought one. I only spray as a hobby now. Can't wait to give it a go. Thanks for sharing
+Michael Rawlins hi , great gun this for the money and hope you like it
After watching your video I have just bought a 1.8mm and a 1.4mm gun. Awesome bits of kit. Thank you for doing a review.
thanks jeff glad to have helped
I've got two of these. One for primer and one for base. Awesome guns for the price!

Nice style I got one under your recommendations ,,thank you,Great vid
I enjoyed your video. Look forward to painting here in Houston when it weather clears up.
Cheers
I got a flg too..i agree totally brilliant gun for the price👍
good stuff finish line is a good gun for base and primer. I have the Iwata airgunsa for primer.
hi tony. Any chance you could do a compressor review suitable for home use. Obviously we haven't all got a couple of grand to fork out on a compressor that's probably only going to be used for personal use. Thanks pal keep the videos coming. Great channel
hi mate i have actually done a review on a compressor thats more affordable for all both home and small shop
I got the 1.4 and bought the 2.0 needle and tip separately, maybe they didn't offer 2.0 at the time but they have it now
not sure tbh mate but 1.8 is more than enough for me
Hiya mate...hope you're feeling better.....just a quickie.....FLG5 what size tip for 2k solid.??
Hey mate...you look after yourself...work to live not live to work. All the best mate !!
Yeah I’m all good again now mate thanks and 1.3 or 1.4 buddy
Brilliant guns I’ve got to get a pare of these
Best mid range guns out there by far

your very welcome and thanks for watching
nice paint bro .. i just would like to ask bro what aircap did you use for prime and for basecoat what aircap ? or didn't changed the aircap also need changes needle 1.8 for primer , 1.4 base-clear coats
just brought one of these guns , just started back in the trade so am using it as an all rounder , so far so good :)
love the videos they are really helping me get back up to speed
+quaggers uk great to hear your getting back nto it again , and my pleasure and i hope they help , Regards Tony
Could you please give me a supplier for the Devilbiss FGL5. The cheapest I have seen it is £128. Many thanks.
Tony, what gun and tip do you use for shooting clear coat? Thanks
it depends mate i use many but usually a 1.3
I'm a home and commercial painter by trade ...I use a HVLP gravity feed Gun on trim and cabinets ... I've read that it's better to use a compliance gravity feed gun ...but I really don't understand how it's different ...does it just have a different tip and pin in it? The prices are very high on these guns? ....I used to build my own classic cars ...now I'm ready to start painting my own cars as I build them ... Do have any videos that you break the gun down for cleaning as you explain the parts or the difference between a normal HVLP V's the compliance one ?... Nice video and thanks for your time
+SteveJ619 hi Steve there are a few types that are slightly different in the way they spray hvlp, lvlp, conventional, tbh it comes down to personal preference and what works best for you not so much which is the best gun , I have every high end gun from the big manufacturers, everyone sprays differently everyone has its own merits and I do have my favourite , the same gun another painter I know doesn't like that gun he prefers another , the best bet may be to try and speak to some suppliers and or manufacturers about a trial gun and see what for you fits best , I will however be doing a video on comparison of guns with a few soon so this may also help
Tonys_Refinishing that would be awesome a comparison video ....cause I use mine to paint trim and cabinets ...but I'm not able to use my HPLV to spray water oil hybrid paints because I'm not really suppose to thin them out ...but someone was say the compliance spray gun can shoot 30% more paint then a normal HVLP gravity feed and it should be fine for shooting water oil hybrids for home trim .... But I also like to expand my knowledge ...so it's time to spray cars .... I moved to Washington state and they put salt on the road so o want an older truck I can keep adding paint to ...to help prevent it from rusting
What size is the air fitting for the hose and gun? Is it the slightly wider fitting? Does it make much difference what fitting you put on to it?
these are all high flow fittings
Nice review. I love my Devilbiss GPI ! You will love the Pro Lite ! Thanks.
+Mitchell Ferre have to say been using the prolite for a few weeks now and love it , also have the gpi but don't use it much tbh lol
Tonys_Refinishing What are your thoughts on the Gpi ? Thanks !
+Mitchell Ferre really like the gpi mate used it for everything as the name says it's a great general purpose gun devilbiss quality too fans huge and pumps the paint out
Tonys_Refinishing Thanks ! I guess if I had a pro lite it would see the most use. I bought my GPI for a dedicated clear coat gun. Thanks !
+Mitchell Ferre I bought one just to try but have that many guns now that I really love for a dedicated task I just don't use it which is a shame really tbh
Great vid with some great tips. I have the same gun and agree that the fans massive and the finish is brilliant... I used mine at the at the weekend in my garage to do 2xdoors and a bonnet... It was set at 2 bar - One problem, I could not see for overspray after 10 mins and had to wait in the garage for 20 mins before i dared open the door :-(
i dont have extraction as its a normal house garage. Can you recommend anything ? - whats normal in a diy environment to keep overspray down.
Keep making the vids as they are really helpful
Hi mate the only thing you can do is make a make shift filter setup mate and put a fan on it
@@TonysRefinishingTV thanks a lot. You mean put an extractor fan in the garage that vents outside?
100% mate yes you can buy the filter we use in small lengths on eBay too
@@TonysRefinishingTV Ahhh ok i will investigate more... thanks a lot.. BTW what are the filters called you use for the exhaust... sorry for so many questions.
Search for spray booth extraction filters mate
Hiya Tony, love the channel mate . Quick Question..I have an old Riley RMA 1952 and I'm on with respraying it in 2k solid .
The whole car comes to bits and is in bits at the minute.
I bought an ANI 160Q midi gun but Im thinking of a full sized gun as well.
My compressor is only quite small, 50ltrs I think and 2hp , shuts of just over 100psi.
Realise I can't spray a full car in one go with this comp' but I'm only doing one panel at a time.
Not really fancying a LVLP ..not hear great things about them, but this FLG5 seems great.
Seeing as I'm only thinking of 1 panel at a time do you reckon it will be ok ?
Cheers Mate........
Alan
It depends what cfm output the compressor is mate tbh if you can send me the make and model I can check for tou
@@TonysRefinishingTV Cheers Tony ! its an SIP Hurricane 2hp...it's about 18 years old now mate but still works fine...got it from Halfords . green if that helps ? Another thing I was thinking of doing is attaching a calor gas bottle to it to give me more capacity ? Cheers Tony !!
Let me have a look over the weekend buddy and see what I can find out , and god no mate don’t risk it with compressed air mate
@@TonysRefinishingTV Hiya Tony ! so what do you reckon ? just single panel work ?
I’d say so mate sorry been mad mate ,
Yeah I think you’ll be stuck to one panel at a time but aslong as you follow the same coats and settings you’ll be fine mate
i see your masking film ,which brand you have to use?
look nice
Good job
Thankyou
hi tony good video, have you seen the new ani h150 with heated air,do you think this gun with heated air has application advantages ?
+steve ruf how do you mean heated air as in heated booth?
Hi just ordered one of these with the 1.4 tip wuite new to spraying and finfing your videos helpful. But why is a larger tip required for pirmer?
+James Smickton hi james , basically the tip size for primer will depend on the viscosity , basically how thick or thin it is, the 1.8 better suits high build primers as they are thicker , but you could just add a touch more thinner to your thicker primers in order to use them in the 1.4 as left thick the 1.4 would struggle to put the paint out as well and with the same coverage as the 1.8, im glad your finding the videos helpfull and anymore questions at any point feel free to ask and il do my best to answer for you
Thanks
Hi I'm based in England and looking at buying this system as iv seen nothing but positive reviews. You say there is a company that do a deal for the two guns so that you can have the 1.8 and 1.4 setup without the hassle of changing over the needles. Any chance you could send a link to, or advise which company is best to try. Thanks pal.
+Adam Whitehead www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk
Hi what psi do you run these gun 1.4 for 2k paint and what setting do you run the fan and paint flow thanks
What pressure you run???
Have a review video on the Iwata WS400 EVO ? I am not asking about the Iwata W 400.
Have a look here Review - Kapci 6030 HS Clearcoat Using The IWATA Supernova 1.3 Setupruclips.net/video/_tNBwIlBeQ8/видео.html
Looking to get one of these do they come in a pair kit such as primer and base?
hello tony just broght a flg5 devilbis
how mony turns on the mixture would you recomend for the flg 5 andthe start point of turning
Il be honest mate it’s been years since I’ve used one mate I couldn’t say
@@TonysRefinishingTV
ok thanks
i havent found much info on this gun but if this is a general purpose gun do you know how close it is to the devilbiss startline gun
Great video. Was looking at FLG5 as my 1st gun for diy, 1.8 & 1.4. But just watched the 105E series and you recommend the ANI F150. Before l buy, which is recommended as of April 2018 ? will buy from spraygunsdirect. Thx
id go for the flg by far a better gun
Thanks for the video on this gun Tony.
I was debating between this and a GPI.
And I gotta say, you've convinced me to go the FLG route.
What was the set up you used to get that glass finish?
It looked super sweet.
+Idris Babangida Suleiman they are a very good gun and honestly the flg I just set up by feel tbh
Tonys_Refinishing Thanks Tony. Thanks for the videos and the reply. I look forward to more custom work from you. Have a good one!
+Idris Babangida Suleiman will be more videos up soon mate and thanks for watching
average air pressure.? bought from jet tools a 36 dollar gun...primer vs harbor freight gun..omg! the 1.3 tip was almost nearly flat compared to the 1.4 tip on the harbor freight..which i got a bit of peel..when i did the sealer w the harbor freight..50 lb psi on average..was near like glass on 1.4 tip.....used the 36 dollar jet tool gun that has no name..STRANGE.1.3 tip.like glass....50 to 55 psi....stuck w the jet tool gun for paint .it has only the 1.3 tip..when i did my second coat paint.. i had a slight issue..grabbed the harbor freight gun and good lord did that make some orange peel...but I am asking your ave psi because i may buy one these to do the clear..i tested a small spot of clear with the jet gun..its ok..little orange peel...rather try to get flatter if i can..i been running any where from 1 1/2 turns on fluid to 2.....same w the hb freight gun..
tried to drop psi down to 30 to 40 psi using pain, primer, clear on test material..WOW IS THAT HORRIBLE LOOKING..and lots sanding..mb i need a 300 dollar gun..dont know..
What pressure, fan and fluid settings do you use for base and clear generally?
homestly with this gun i set it by feel in afraid i dont have any settings written down for it but il try and get it out and have a work out for you
Hello, very good video. Would u recommend using one Flg5 for primer, base, and clear? i have the 1.4 and the 1.8 setup. Also, what size air compressor do you have. Thanx for the video.
+DjGogoLA personally I use the 1.8 for primer and 1.4 for base , you can use the 1.4 for clear also but I run two dedicated guns for clear one ms one hs and preference is say prolite with 1.3 and t110 cap for clear mate , we have two 200lt compressors one runs the booth one runs the workshop mate more than big enough power wise what you need to look at is the free air delivery it may say 14cfm but free air delivery may only be 10 so always check
Hello, which gun is better in your opinion for base coat and clear coat..Devilbiss FLG 5 1.4 or Devilbiss GPI 1.4 ??
Rybson B gpi costs more money you decide 💥
Great video as usual , i use flg5 now been very impressed . It sprays better than my gti for a lot less money.keep up the vids there some of the best i v watched.👍
+TheKebobhunter thank man appreciate the comments and i try my best video wise its not always easy lol, and i have two flgs love them to bits great gun for the money
I bought this spray gun for my brother as a gift because he is interested in learning this trade, it's the 1.8, can I just buy the 1.4 tip so that he can use the gun for primer and base coat or should I just buy another gun that is 1.4?
You can just buy the tip mate but for the price I’d just buy another gun
@@TonysRefinishingTV thanks for reply.. i will buy another gun..
hi Tony, good video, I just wanted to ask if you ever used a sharpe fx 3000 , my wife bought me one for Christmas because i have always had $10 to $40 guns I haven't used it yet, are they any good, thanks
Hello Sir, Have you been able to spray the high solids clear-coat with the Iwata WS400 EVO as yet?
Yes it will handle hs clear no problem
hi is the air cap the same for the 1.4 and 1.8 ?
Roman Zamayoa yes
Hello, wchich gun is better in your opinion, Devilbiss FLG-5 1.4 or Devilbiss GPI 1.4 ??
The gpi is a better gun it’s in a different band to the flg tbh
Tonys_Refinishing Thanks, finally someone answered my question
Lol sorry mate I get so many comments
Inboxes ect across the social media channels it sometimes takes time to reply to them all , the gpi though is basically a devillbiss gti pro just rebranded so the older equivalent of the new gti prolite , it’s a great fun that I find best for clears or direct gloss but overall a good all rounder too Just obviously in the slightly higher price bracket than the flg, hope this helps buddy
very nice video...
+BIGMAC thanks man
thanks,you make good videos,i own a chrysler 300-67
im thinking about do a garagepaint job on that.if i dare to take that step(amateur)...
Is this gun good for applyng automotive varnishes ?
its a starter gun really but by starter its a very good gun but for consistent application of clearcoat id go for a higher end gun
what did you used air cap bro ? for primer coat
Standard air cap 1.8mm setup
why do you keep your lid cap on? tnx
mainly the gopro digs in a touch tbh but also im not a fan of paint hoods so it keeps the overspray off lol
Do you know what dekups adapter fits this gun? I search everywhere and can't find which one it is and the US devilbiss site doesn't show sgk or flg5 in the adapters description.
+Ernesto Zazueta if you go to www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk they have the listings on there I think
Dpc-43
Hi, I'm getting a lot of orange peel when I use this gun 1.8 for epoxy primer, any suggestions?I used it at much higher pressure than you say in the vid, the manual says 2.5 bar?
+racediagnostics personally I'd try a touch less on the fluid or a touch closer or further away as it sounds like your laying it down abit too heavy and it's not atomising properly , you could also try a touch of thinner / reducer
I just ordered one in a 1.4 and turns out it came with a #5 Trans-Tech air cap... I'm wondering if this is the same setup yours is?
they only come with one setup on the flg for aircap so im sire itll be the same mate
Is there 1.3 tip for this gun? Keep up the good work mate.
i think theres only the 1.4 in the smaller end of tips its more for a general use gun but is great for the money
@Do One where do i get it?
What size of tips for base and clear???
this has the 1.4 setup and i used that for both
so how's this compare to the FLG4?
no idea never used one im afraid
No comparison flg5 all the way
What color blue was that
+Steven Burgess hi I'm afraid I can't remember the colour for this one , since then we have started to note all codes in videos were we can
Silver metallic paint good at it use this airgun? Do not ever paint?
+Алексей Владимирович this spray gun is perfect for all types of paint yes
Oh! Thank you!
Cant find it in the Us any suggestions?
+Walkertongdee hi, yes you could get it shipped from the uk to you from www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk, also in the US its the same gun but just called an SGK , hope this helps out
tks:)
+Walkertongdee no problem hope it helps
Can i use this for water borne paint?@
no this gun is only suitable for solvent based paints
Oh that's a shame cuz I might be getting an apprenticeship in a body shop as a sprayer and wanted to buy my own gun. I thought it said on spraygunsdorect that it's suitable for water based as well but maybe not. Also I don't know whether this body shop uses solvent paints over water borne
Yeah on spraygunsdirect it says "Suitable for solvent and waterbased materials." but I imagine either you have tried it and it hasnt gone well aha
i may be wrong then tbh but im sure when i bought mine they wernt unless they have had the internals upgraded
Well anyway your vids have helped me alot with knowledge on the topic and helped me to get this far in my college course and i thank thee for thou
I have the flg5 based on your recomendations.
the air seal has gone in it.
two little plastic washers.
however they are shaped.
on the devilbiss parts diagram it does not show which way round they sit.
have you dealt with these at all.
your advice would be appreciated as the seals are unavailable alone. unfortunately devilbiss make you but a whole kit at a cost of £28.
I bet the seals are only pennies.
I don't want to have to buy again by making The mistake of inserting them the wrong way round.
thanks.
Alex.
How did you manage to do that? Only time I’ve heard of it, buy the repair kit and move on.
my kinda gun....
great fukin gun
for the money defintely
