  • Going into the holiday season, the MTA debuts it's yearly traditional "Holiday Train", which has usually over the course of every year that it's ran, consisted of the beloved "Arnine" fleets (R1-9), running in the B Division usually from one destination (subject to change) down to 2nd Avenue in Lower Manhattan. However, after the big return of the Holiday Train with the unfamiliar change of the R-32 being the hosting train instead of the usual Arnine set, for this year it was quite the mystery if there was to either be a return of the Arnines again, or a different approach, and it turned out to be a lot more unexpected then previously anticipated. For this years Holiday Train, the NYTM prettied up and organized the long awaited Train Of Many Colors (TOMC), which is a train of vintage nostalgic IRT-based SMEE cars collected throughout the 40's to 60's. For this year, the NYTM had repainted most cars in the consist, with most being St. Louis Car Company R33ML's. Included as well were a pair of St. Louis R36WF's and 2 R33WF's that were debuted in previous years in the "bluebird" scheme. The R36WF pair was kept in the classic Redbird scheme, which it was retired in, and the 3 pairs of R33ML's that were included were all painted and repainted back into their respective special schemes that debuted throughout their history, with the following being the "Red Robin" scheme featuring a bright vibrant Gunn Red, the "Cooperate scheme" which features the signature silver base and blue stripe, and finally the newly revised "Green Hornet" scheme, which dating back to 1987 was used for a fan-trip consisting of repainted R33ML's on the (1) line. One car in this pair in particular was previously found in the Redbird scheme, however to match its mate, they were both repainted in the same scheme to match. For this run, the NYTM decided to run the TOMC throughout the (1) line, on a specialized schedule with its route running from 137th Street-City College down to Chambers Street. The train would run express via the (1) lines track along 7th Avenue, with periodic local stops to keep steady distancing, and to not hinder with the (1)'s schedule too much throughout the day. The trips would run from 10:00 AM all the way to 5:30 PM, to which the train would return back to Unionport Yard and wait for the next weekend to run again. #mtasubway
