    I would like to mention since Slowbro came up that you can actually use the same strat idea for Whitney.
    I mention this specifically for those who are doing Nuzlockes even, because you might WANT to keep that Guarantee Abra you got in Goldenrod.
    However Slowpoke can be forced as your encounter in Slowpoke Well simply by forcing Zubat and Geodude on earlier routes, thankfully an easy task.
    You can Curse setup on Clefairy quite easily as it offers no real challenge, and once you have enough Attack/Defense ups to break through all the physical moves, The low speed means nothing and you will wipe out Miltank. I also tend to throw Headbutt obtained in Ilex Forest onto the Slowpoke for this very reason, and you'll be well within level cap for the fight to have Curse

    • @bvd_vlvd
      @bvd_vlvd Год назад

      @bvd_vlvd while I've never been unlucky enough for that to happen, those are still random chances to get messed up by Clefairy. Even with a Thunderbolt, if you are to level cap you should be clear to survive at least 1 given the HP of your average Slowpoke

    Onix is way more consistent at beating Whitney's Miltank than Machop. The best strategy is to Screech Miltank to set up huge damage she can't heal off with Milk Drink and use Dig whenever she gets Rollout going. Onix's ridiculous defense and favorable typing make it nearly unbeatable with that strategy. Giving it a Berry makes it even more consistent and so does catching a female Onix in Union Cave and not using the male trade one from Violet City.

    Feraligatr is good against Jasmine tho? It can learn dig, you get the soft sand from the 3 water type trainers hidden in the secret zone south of Goldenrod after you get access to Surf, and it outspeeds the Magnemites. Magnemite literally has 45 speed stat and Feraligatr has a 78 speed stat? It will outspeed and 1-hit ko them 100% of the time with soft sand boosted dig, and then proceed to pulverize Steelix with Surf. It's just the tiniest bit less good than Quagsire because Quagsire gets stab with dig, but even then. Feraligatr is still faster than Quagsire, so I think it's one of the best options for Jasmine. Like, for real bro, what were you doing against that Magnemite to be hit with a thunderbolt in the 1st place? Were you spamming a resisted normal type move, to show Feraligatr is weak to thunderbolt? Instead of you know, immediately going for dig? Ofc its gonna be hit with the super effective move if you don't go for one yourself. Feraligatr can't get through the Magnemites my ass. It does get through them and through the Steelix 100% of the time as long as you, you know, make sure to attack with dig and Surf, 2 super effective moves Fer gets, to outspeed and one shot her entire team.

    You kind of use Haunter against Chuck. Gastly can be found early in Tin Tower at night. Chuck's Primeape won't be able to even harm Haunter, and the only move Poliwrath can use against Haunter is Surf. Haunter won't get Dream Eater until Level 33, and Chuck's highest level Pokemon is his Level 30 Poliwrath. While also can't get any Psychic-type TMs until later in the game, you can obtain a TM for Thunder at the Goldenrod Game Corner if you can get 5500 coins, which can be used to zap the water-type Poliwrath, though you may need to give it an X-Accuracy or two to get past Thunder's bad aim. Rain Dance does make Thunder never miss, and you can find the TM for it in Slowpoke Well, but it will make Poliwrath's Surf attack stronger. So, be careful when using it.

    Jinx (ice path) and Electabuzz (via curiosity egg elekid) are also valid hard hitting ice punch/ice beam user for Claires Dragons.
    I love my elektrobuzz for its speed and coverage. thunder/ice hits everything at least neutral, fire punch for coverage against Jasmine.
    Basically as if pikachu and elemental 'kazam had a child.
    Sometimes I catch a Bellsprout early and get a Weepinbell/ Victreebel and can get a nice Sleep Powder into Growth into Razor Leef sweep which is also a valid Strategy. Sleep into Syther into Sword dance into Slash/ Wing Attack is also pretty good, as probably every other boost move as well.
    Pink Bow is also accessable early on route 29 at tuesday from Dietlinde after defeating Falkner. Instead of Ursaring Tauros and Miltank are also a hard hitting bulky Normal Types which usally Headbutt/ return/ bodyslam + Rest/Milk Drink throw Claire's Team.
    Water Types as Quagsire, Tentacruel and Lanturn also usally covers the most vanilla stuff you encounter.

  • @Dw7freak
    @Dw7freak Год назад

    For HGSS, I think everything's mostly the same but with subtle differences.
    As Falkner has Roost instead of Mud Slap, Geodude and Onix are viable.
    Even though Bugsy starts with Scyther, it always uses U-Turn, so no changes there.
    While Muscle is still good against Whitney, I'd also have Heracross as viable now, as it gets Brick Break by level up at 19 and it hits much harder than a Machop. While it does lose the rock resist, Heracross is much bulkier and faster than Machop as well, so it can survive Stomps much easier.
    The only real change for Morty is the addition of Gen 4 evolutions. While you'd have to trade a Shiny Stone over, like you'd have to trade for Alakazam, Togekiss completely stomps on Morty's team all because of one move: Extrasensory. A slightly weaker Psychic and an egg move that the Togepi egg you're given has. Togekiss is both fast and powerful. While Togetic isn't as strong, it's still got decent specials that it can hurt with Extrasensory.
    Same thing with Chuck. Extrasensory Togekiss/Togetic.
    For Pryce, he doesn't have any water moves on his Seel or Dewgong, so a good fire-type can do some damage. Magmar can be caught in the Burned Tower in GS and HGSS and has a solid movepool and stats. In GS, it can even be taught Thunderpunch. In HGSS, as long as it doesn't have its speed lowered by Icy Wind, it can destroy Piloswine with Fire Punch or Flamethrower/Fire Blast (via TM). Otherwise, Heracross with fighting stab. Another option is Lapras, as it gets access to the TM for Thunderbolt from the Game Corner. Thunderbolt and Surf sweep the fight.
    For Jasmine, Quagsire is even better, as Steelix doesn't have Sunny Day anymore. Second would probably be your own Steelix with Dig, as you can't reteach it Fire Fang until Blackthorn, or Golem.
    And for Claire, that starting Gyarados rains on Ursaring's parade with Intimidate. And there's nothing that gets a clean sweep, either. Feraligatr gets Ice Fang, but it gets stopped by Intimidate and Thunderwave. Gyarados also gets Ice Fang and gets Dragon Dance at 44, but you'd be overleveled. My recommendation is Magneton. At the Goldenrod Department Store, you can do a raffle on the rooftop with the grand prize being a TM. On Tuesdays, the TM is for Flash Cannon. If you don't want to gamble for Flash Cannon, you can also reteach it Tri-Attack at the Move Relearner in Blackthorn. With Flash Cannon and Discharge at level 40, you only need to worry about Claire's second Dragonair that knows Fire Blast and Kingdra spamming Hydro Pump. Extrasensory Togekiss is also good, especially since you can reteach it Aura Sphere in case Kingdra tries to get cheeky with Smokescreen. You can even get into your own shenanigans if you reteach it Air Slash and do Serene Grace flinch strats.
    Another option for Claire in all versions of Johto is the Friday Lapras that you can get right after beating Morty. In GSC, it only has to worry about the second Dragonair that knows Thunderbolt. In HGSS, you only have to worry about getting paralysed from Thunderwave. Should you avoid those, it naturally learns Ice Beam in the 30s in all the Johto games. Just spam Ice Beam, it's that simple. As long as it has some speed investment, it can outspeed all the Dragonairs. Thunderbolt would also be helpful for the Gyarados.

    Unpopular opinion: Bayleef shines vs Whitney (though not as much as the Machop, as Bayleef needs to slightly overlevel to lvl 23 for Synthesis while Machop can do it on-level, but compared to a lvl 23 Machop for fairness Bayleef is safer), giving the black sheep of the GSC starters some use. Doesn't change the fact the Chikorita line still sucks for almost everything though.

    Another great way to deal with Miltank is to use a pokemon with the fury cutter learned from Bugsy. I think all starters can use it at 2nd stage, among others.
    Building 3-4 hits on clefairy then 2 shotting or 1 shotting miltank feels great. It's ofcource potentially risky if you either miss or get attracted but honestly it's a fair low chance of that happening.
    I defeated Whitney by confusing clefairy first using zubat, then switching to Heracross level 14 and used fury cutter. Clefairy and Miltank fell very easily :-)

    Not about the Gyms but related to the "Best Pokemon for a special moment":
    We all know the true test of strength was beating Red after all 16 Gyms at Silver Mountain or to be more exact: To beat his Snorlax. It had Body Slam for damage and Amnesia making it more and more tanky, when taken low it rested himself up and it could even keep beating you up sleeping.
    Everything else was doable. I found out you can throw a Gastly at him. I think it is at level 16 or something that it learns Curse. Snorlax has literally no attack that can harm Gastly and the cruel damage from curse (depending on MaxHP) destroys Snorlax :)
