Absolut toller Film.
Interesting fact, Erich Hartmann, the fighter pilot with the most kills (352), considered Marseille to be the greatest fighter pilot of his time.
Hartman had his victories only against Russians and a lot of wooden planes. All Marseille victories were only against British and American planes.
@@markdean1984 Hartmann debuted his career in 42 by which time the Soviet airforce had considerably much better aircrafts that were actually capable of challenging that of the German design. It wasn't the aircraft quality but rather the skill difference that got him so many kills.
@@markdean1984 when Hartmann started his streak, the russian Air force was pretty good...
Again according to Hartmann himself the best fighter of all times was Marseille. Also, according to my great great uncle, who flew with Hartmann on theEastern Front, Marseille should be considered the best and most skilled fighter pilot of all times
@@markdean1984 The difference why Hartmann or any German pilot at the Eastern front had a bigger tally was that; 1 on the Eastern front they flew more sorties a day, in the West/ Africa a couple a week, 2 When shot down you could crash land in by the Germans occupied territory or even walk back to your unit. 3 Russian pilots were not well trained and and didn't fly "state of the art" aircraft ( they thought that everything was expandable....)

Roberto Blancos erste Rolle!
The best!

I would like to point out for historical accuracy that Marseille was flying the Gustav version(BF-109 G2) when he bailed out, not the Emil model shown here.
Actually a G-2/Trop killed Marseille. Prone to mechanical issues, the G-2/Trop did what the Allies couldn't. Most of the 109's in the movie were courtesy of the Spanish Air Force and were actually HA-1112's (which look a lot like 109 Emils).
Oddest Emils ive ever seen,
@@garydufton3510 I made the mistake of thinking they were Emils because of the cone shaped prop hub, but there was no central canon there and there were no braces on the horizontal stabilizers.
@@videomaniac108 Wow. You guys certainly know your ww2 luftwaffe fighters.
@@robertburke1486 The 109 is my favorite plane, kind of like an AC Cobra with wings. The history of this plane and the people involved with it are very interesting. Obviously, I am not an expert in this plane, having made an obvious mistake in identifying it.

Nice to see a old flight movie .. Few things went wrong here .. i fly myself (glider pilot) and alwais read every thing i see about flying. Jochem was a very good deflexian shooter ! And a bit a loner .. He was send to afrika because he alwais went alone over the chanel and the LW didnt want that, so they send him to Afrika. There he flew with even more succes and often goes up alone and shot more English planes ! This is very hard to do .( i also fly Il2 and Clifs and DCS ) and i never have more then 2 kills ! (pc simulation)
One time the comander above Jochem wanted tha he flew the newer Model 109 i believe a G model 109 and Jochem did not want to do it .. Bu at last they made him and on his first flight his engine give up.. exact what Jochem feared ! he bailed and hit the tail secion and died ..parachute did not open.. That was the story for real.. as far i know..

Gottseidank, dass Tom Cruise "spielt" in dieses Film NICHT!!!
Iam learning German watching these movies, very similar to English in some ways.
War cannot be described adequately unless a person has lived it. An absolute waste of talent and resource.
The person involved will be changed forever. The cause will most likely be forgotten! What happened during that war will linger for eternity! It will shape generations!
that was a good move!!! wish there was never a war again...
There will come a big war soon. Usa vs. China
As there were very few actual original 109 airframes flying in 1957 (when the film was made) the film makers had to use (when showing real planes) the composite (built under licence) Spanish Buchon which used Merlin engines and thus they had incorrect lower engine cowlings (that were not incorporated on the original Messerschmit version), because the original Daimler-Benz engines types were impossible to find in the 50's. Its interesting that to retain continuity the film makers also used models of the Buchons in the action scenes.
Pppp
They could have used czech- build avias ... But czechoslovakia was behind The Iron curtain....
