Building a Realistic City with Airport, Trains, Trams and Cargo in Cities Skylines 2

- We're continuing the expansion of our sort of realistic North American-themed city Riverview and its metropolitan area, by FINALLY adding in a much-requested development: The airport! But we're not just adding in an airport, we're making sure that it is well integrated into the surrounding areas south of Downtown, and well connected to public transport through the development of a passenger train station and route, tram line, cargo freight train lines and both passenger- and cargo air routes as well! We're also adding some new realistic developments in the area: apartment complexes and public housing, an office / hi-tech district near the airport, and new service buildings! Hope you enjoy!

Hello Infrastructurist! Today, I got my C1 Cambridge certificate! I'm so happy! By the way, great video 😁
Better educational services
saw this from someone else, but you can name it riverview ravenwood airport after the suburb that was there, rra for short and icao can be krra
Phenomenal Metropolis !!! Hard work pays up big time..
Any chances of a save download? I don't have a CC for patreon but I'd love to get my hands on this save and try my hand at expanding myself (I'm really bad at starting cities from scratch, but with a starting point I think I could do cool stuff.)
Riverview is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. Your keen eye for detail and landscaping never ceases to amaze.
That is a wonderful compliment Canyontiger - thank you very much, and thanks for the support! ☺
completely agree
Usually Airports are coded after the city/district/airport name, in your case it would likely be something along the lines of RVW or RIV
Thanks for the suggestion V3rtect, and the support! ☺
@@Infrastructurist RIV is already taken in the US, but also RVW would work (in addition to my suggestion above of RRA for "Riverview Ravenwood Airport").
Maybe more like the code was taken by some other airport so we could name it RIY
ICAO code should be: KRVW
Riverview municipal airport.
A funny solution, still calling the airport Riverview Airport but the IATA code is RIO (Spanish for river😊).
Also you should add some crossings in front of the airport rail station and I think they disappeared in front of the airport
That is an interesting approach! and thanks for the notice Rob, I think I missed something completely hahaha.
Thank you for the support! ☺
unfortunately RIO is already used to designate Rio de Janeiro. IATA codes can designate a larger metropolitan area for multiple airports in said metropolitan area. in the case of RIO, it is also used to designate Galeao Airport (GIG) and Santos Dumont Airport (SDU)
This is by far my favorite cities skylines lets play out there right now! I'm simultaneously loving it and dreading that I'm nowhere near as good at the game. Anyway keep it up, love this series!!
Here’s my suggestion,
Jeremiah Wellington Montgomery was a courageous army medic who served some 200 years ago on the now destroyed fort found on heart island. He was born in what is now known as Ravenwoord. His accomplishments earned him minor recognition within the surrounding region which allowed him to win the very first municipal elections in Riverview. The airport would be named Jeremiah Montgomery Regional Airport or “JMR”
Love the included night shots at the end! Such a different vibe compared to the standard daylight mode.
Best episode so far in my opinion. The things that you can do with the new road tools make the place so real and that is super cool. Keep up with the amazing work.
Farm land is really popular in North America as filler between airports and houses, additionally the farm land is heavily restricted access and surrounded 8 foot razor wire fences. But it might be cool to put some additional farm land to separate the airport from the dwellings because noise pollution.
🤔 I used to live across the street from LaGuardia tho ...no farms. S. Florida airports ...no farms. Seems like a cool idea tho. I'd say build housing to the coast.
@@mrgooglethegreat I think it depends on how much space is available, because the Central Nebraska regional airport has precisely what I described. a more mountainous example might be, Denver International airport, which has the same noise barrier farmland and has topography much like the terrain of this map. Florida doesn’t have arable farmland, and a much higher demand for non marshland space or the mountains that this map. This map doesn’t take place in southern Florida…
@@Lil_Tom351 I didn't know central Nebraska even needed an airport. Crop dusters don't need all that infrastructure airports have. Lol jk. I'm an SC4 player that's skipped CS1 (downloaded it a lil over a month ago while I guess it's been out for years) and is going straight into CS2 from the Sim world. Really tho that's a great aesthetic idea to put farms there. I might try it in my next build. In SC4 I keep my farms far from my city and nowhere near airports.
KRVM - Riverview Municipal Airport, like other small but higher capacity airports that have grown overtime, RVM began in the early days of aviation and slowly grew alongside the surrounding infrastructure to soon support cargo 757s flow by FedEx from Memphis and numerous regional airline connections to major cities like Baltimore MD, Chicago's Midway Airport, and Newark NJ. Hopefully this is a cute little backstory for the new airport!
It slaps me in the face everytime you redo old districts with historic old homes. It always looks good dont get me wrong but dang!
44:15 Whoa. That looks just like portland Oregon from a certain angle. WOW
Read about ICAO and IATA. Gives you a good understanding of how airports around the world are named. Perhaps KRIV since its a North American (K meaning US, and RIV for Riverview)
This looks wonderful! one idea (and I know it might be a bit of a hassle, so disregard if ya want) is to build the airport rail connection as a metro, with intercity rail running alongside it! that way you can take advantage of the smaller metro station size, and perhaps have it look like the sort of airport connection you might see in an american city with a metro or through-running tunneled commuter rail
Airport name: CRE - City of Riverview Emerson Airport, named after Walter Emerson, one of the co-founders of Riverview (alluded to by the already named 'Emerson Street' which leads up to the airport.
I'm not sure whether the game allows for it, or how/if it would work, but I would love to see some way for citizens to travel to the base of those mountains. They would give spectacular views, people would travel from far away to climb themig would be loveky to have some form of Forest Park at the base of one. There wouldnt be too much infrastructure but there would definitely be a little coffee shop that local climbers frequented.
You could consider naming the airport after both riverview and chestnut, like a dallas/ft worth or minneapolis/st paul type name. Riverview-Chestnut Regional Airport - KRWC
Love your videos man!! Always remember to take care of yourself first! We'll be here. Cheers from Peru!
Awesome video, realistically the aiport should not be so close to the main downtown or be within a 500m residential zone, mainly due to height restrictions and noise polution and other pollutants caused by planes.
Thanks!
You are completely right, although there are some fun cases like Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. I think the need to reduce everything a bit in scale when creating a city (even in Cities Skylines 2) also plays in - I am definitely starting to feel a little restricted by this map, and am looking forward to starting some all-new series ☺
When the first dirt and gravel airstrip was built onto the old farms, the location was quite far from the city, especially on foot or by horse. There would only have been a few cars at that time. Anyway, the city would grow and expand out to the then small airport and beyond. Ravenwood would likely have never existed other than farmland, and Briar Rose would have probably sprung up in the '60s around the same time the airport was being paved to handle jet aircraft. The residents there mostly came after the planes
Great job evolving those cities in a more natural way! Thanks for your great videos!
I think the simulation is still not balanced properly by the developers when it comes to population density to housing volume (in relation to property value, of course), which worse in CS1... :) I have lived in north American row housing and they are much denser populated than one could think. Riverview's maps total population capacity should already hold more than 150 Thousand, yet alone by the footprint and small and medium housing and the row housing in particular, it seems.
I hope you continue this series on Riverview!
For the code of your Riverview Airport, RVW seems a good fit!
Not sure if you'll see this but if you click and drag when adding grass to streets it'll follow the streets similar to when you delete them :)
Really loving this series, the city is really looking great! Well done!
Maybe trying to push the population to 100k would be cool?
Or pushing for max city income could be an idea?
This was such a satisfying build to watch!
Your Industrial district is GODLIKE!! 🔥🔥
Wouldn't be a terrible idea to put an university somewhere! Perhaps a technical university where the old dock used to be, like someone on an earlier video suggested?
Hey! So I might be a total nerd for this, but I think you should use a code that isn't currently in use. I think RIV or RVV are good for your city, but they are already in use by other airports. If you want to be a bit extra and make your airport a bit more unique, you could use something like RVX. It isn't currently in use and it looks kinda cool, I think!
My suggestion for the airport RAF, Riveview Air Field
RVW Riverview Airport, would be a fitting name, and when the international airport is added it would be RVW International.
the letters for the airport is called ICAO code. I think KRVW would fit for this airport. The K is for US airports
Always a delight to see you upload
Loving this series. Thanks!
Great city so far and as one of the airport nerds, love the airport build! I would call it Riverview International Airport unless you create some lore about a famous person from the city of Riverview (New Orleans airport is named after Louis Armstrong, Louisville's is named after Muhammad Ali, etc.) And the code will have to include a "K" at the beginning since that is the ICAO code for American cities. So, Riverview International Airport would be KRIV
Most beautiful city in CS2 so far. Why no landscaping with developer mode on. Would make it stand out even more.
RIA - River (S)ide International Airport
RIA 247, to DEN 225 now departing from gate 3...
Hii :) to add to the current name of your city, Riverview Metropolitan Airport (RMA) would totally work.
Airport ICAO code would be good as KRVI. Which would be riverview international airport.
This is cool af.
Thanks for the entertainment
now you should build/upgrade the three stadiums so that we could enjoy riverview derby 😃
Extensive land-moving is not uncommon for airport construction. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is located in a spot that used to be a large lake and in fact the entire municipality of Haarlemmermeer was once underwater - in which Schiphol Airport is located - so the name Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is actually wrong. It should be named Hoofddorp Schiphol Airport) . We simply pumped it dry using windmills, canals and dikes.
babe wake up infrastructurist posted a video
"Ugh I can't stand his voice - close the door" 😂
RVX would be a nice and kinda realistic 3 letter code for your airport
Love the videos / series man keep it up
Don't forget crosswalks at the train station.
Hey love your build just wanted to suggest 1 thing.
All of your ground parking are facing the airport and people using the train station can't park there unless they go around the loop. So maybe you could face 1 or 2 parking towards the train station
*Ravenswood Regional Airport (RRA)* is memory of the suburb unceremoniously destroyed to facilitate its construction.
Another beautiful build, Mr. Mayor. I am curious, what is your computer setup like? I would love to purchase this game and play myself but don't have the infrastructure (insert percussive sting here) needed to play.
Hi! Loving your content! Why don't you put a passenger/cruise ship port at the old port? It woyld be very nice watching the cruise ships docking near the skyscrapers!! Additionally, the code "RVA" or "RVW" whould be great for the Reverview Airport!
You made Kartoffelrækkerne and Fælledparken last time I just realised.
RVX Airport! Kinda like YVR (for Vancouver!) Sorry I'm Canadian, and only used to Canadian airport codes 😢
YYR for the airport! (a code not already in use)
We can pretend it's a Canadian city.
Wouldn’t it be better to use the metro station instead of train for the airport? It’s smaller and I reckon you can connect the lines to train stations
You know, you say this is a North American themed city but Riverview has quality and efficient public and cargo transport so that can't be true! I guess this is then the ideal American city if competent people ran the US 😅
Hahaha, well I am sure that if we took a deep dive look into how I have planned some of these public transport routes, they are probably pretty bad 😂 And Riverview is still plagued by a bit of a housing crisis and high crime rates 😬
@@Infrastructurist Oh for sure, just one person planning a city is always gonna end up with some deficiencies, even in a simulated video game city! I probably don't have to tell you this but well planned cities in real life had of course hundreds of planners, engineers, architects etc. and much more tome behind them, which allows those people to check each other's mistakes in the planning. Though having watched your Riverview series, and ignoring the fact that this is just a video game, your city does seem to be better planned than many many big and important American cities to me 😂
Anyway, thanks for making this series, I love watching your stuff after work to relax and get away from outside stress for a few minutes!
the airport ICAO code should be NZRV cuz it looks similar to queenstown and their code starts with NZ
Awesome job mate. And for the viewers that are not subscribe, ffs people suscribe, this man deserve millions of subs
I'm gonna keep asking in all your videos, if you could make a traditional American campus using the different educational buildings in the game. Give it its own businesses, parks a police station, student housing, football pitch etc. Call the district Riverview University.
Also RVW would be a good code for the airport, since it kinda looks like it says Riverview. Airport codes tend to be quite trivial.
If the airport is named Riverview airport, i think it would be fitting if the airport code is RVA
Well worth a week of daily refreshing wishing a upload will appear you can go a month no upload, as long as you don't forget us we shall understand ❤
You could do Riverview National Airport - RVA
Because nowhere in the description it says what song it is so here it is
Michael FK - Gloom
Surprised you didn't just run Main St right into King St, making it one road and reducing intersections
We might as well keep saying steam workshop, sims paradox mods won't be available for half a year at least.
Could we please get a save file for this beautiful city?
Hi Extile - I am honored by these requests but very anxious about sharing save files, unfortunately, so at least for now that is not something I am interested in doing. Hope you understand ☺
Instead of tram connection, I would put a subway connection!
RVW would be a good airport code
Riverview Regional Airport, KRVW/RVW
love ur vids bro, you are the goat♥♥
Looks like they still haven't found a way to make the population number realistic. A city this size should have way more than 50k people
Checkout Workers and Resources you might like the game!
Aviation nerd: I think you should name it KRWA or KRVI
RVDA - Riverview Domestic Airport
Sould you please place down some communication towers in cities they are everywhere
commenting to boost whatever idk
what is the song at 32:50?
PLEASE do an entire Episode on public transport!
There are a lot of areas with almost no transit (or at least you didn't show it) and also the existing network should be overhauled.
With more trams, more passenger rail and more buses, with improved interchanges. Maybe some express buses too.
expanding public transportation in an american city? my immersion is breaking
@@toothsweet5839 lmao
yeah as much as I like public transport, but for an american city it's way too much already. I mean how many cities in USA have streetcras? 23 or so?
@@micbln8967well big cities in Canada have public transport. Not comparable to big European ones of course, but still waaayyyyy better than US cities
I support more public transit. Make this into an american city of the future.
Detailing what different development and differing, frequent, numerous public transport can do to catapult an american metropolis to efficiency and above all, prosperity
London Heathrow got its name from the hamlet of heath row that they obliterated to build it. So the airport should be called Riverview Ravenwood Airport with the iata code RRW or something
The ICAO Code for London Heathrow is EGLL, used by the airline pilots and the navigational systems, however the IATA code for London Heathrow would be shown to passengers as LHR, using the syllables (i think?) to make a shorter name to use on messaging boards.
This city has come so far! Your engagement and ease to watch makes your vids so relaxing. Lets get to 100 thousand population!
Glad you find them relaxing Daniel - 100k would be awesome, but also challenging as I don't want to rush in a ton of high/medium density without thought 😂
I always thought the population mechanics were a bit dodgy in both games. Your city is sprawling and if something similar existed irl I feel like more than 50 thousand people could live there.
@@danielkelly5443the general rule is to multiply population number by 10 to translate to real life
@@aeji148so 550k?
@@XytroniteGames yeah
"After rather casually displacing around 1500 people from the already shrinking middle class..." your role play of a US city is impeccable
Woop woop 🎉 You definitely make the best looking complex arteries, seeing all the activity buzzing around really makes the city feel a huge living microcosm
Thanks a lot Dayshan, and thank you for the support - I really appreciate it! ☺
You should add a Metro aswell. I think most people use to many stations on subways. So maybe make one which connects only to the most important places. Such as the small island with ferruswherl, east riverview, downtown and the dense spot you created last episode next to the incinerator
Airport name suggestions:
* Riverview-Briar Rose Airport (RBR)
* Riverview Airport (RVI)
* Riverview Airport (RIV)
Btw, 44:12 + 44:19 "4K Riverview At Night" wow, at those time stamps I felt the atmosphere of the city
I like RBR. My first thought was RAX
For the Airport Name:
Douglas Carlson Regional Airport - DCR
Douglas Carlson was a old miner who founded the first mines in the mountains of Riverview, besides these mines don't exist anymore, he had big influence in the outcome of the city.
Normaly the short Airport Codes just are there for the luggage sorting system, often it's a shorter version of the Name with 3 letters.
Highly suggest KDCR/DCR for this airport code, has its history to align with story of this series.
Airport code suggestions: RVX / RVV
KDCR
KRVX
KRVV
Great suggestions from these guys
@@beforeyouknowit for IATA, RVV is Raivavae there would be RVW that is still not claimed no idea about ICAO tho
You should add a post sorting facility, post office and some sparse (no smokestack) industrial off to another side of the airport. FedEx and UPS a lot of times have Sorting Facilities, Ramps and Stations at airports for their air express services.
Always love the care and detail you put into every build! Would love to see that same level of attention put to the development nodes (which may help with some of the smaller issues)
I'm looking forward to when you expand the Riverview region beyond the mountains, as it seems like a tough challenge without the crutch of terraforming.
Keep up the good work ❤
Thank you, will do my best!
And I am definitely starting to feel some geographical limitations by now - which is also why we will be starting new series', soon! To have more projects to work on at the same time ☺☺
I like that you take time and make all the details fit eachother. I don't like to watch other YTubers not giving a fluff about building being in weird angles cause of terrain. You make the most beautiful and detailed cities! Love that!
The airport code should be *RVX* if you want to be realistic - Most common convention is to use first three letters but RIV is taken. Also use first letter of each word or syllable but RVV is taken. Many airports in the USA kept their old two letter code with X at the end (like LA to LAX) but RIX is taken. Therefore RVX is the next best option.
please add a subway system around the city. the overground station looks really cool and is quite a bit smaller than the train station. i think it would some great new perspectives and sight lines to the city.
Hey bro keep up the great work. I love ur vids. Best cs2 RUclipsr rn 😊
Hey Archer, thanks a lot, glad you like them!!
Another beautiful addition to the most beautiful CS2 city! Loving this series!
Thank you! ☺
I am in awe of this city. You are extremely talented and I am so glad to be able to watch your progress
It should be called TCA, which stands for Tri-City Airport
Great episode. I would suggest the airport to be named the "Riverview Regional Airport" as it is a smaller airport, with the ICAO code "KRIV" (K is the designated ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) code for the United States), as this is a North American build. If Riverview is in Canada on the other hand, the code could be CRIV (C = ICAO code for Canada).
Just wanted to appreciate the great work, the tone of your commentaries and the didactic aspect. I've picked up tons of techniques from you which make the gameplay so much more interesting! Thank you!
When it comes to the airport codes, just keep it simple. Usually, 3 letters that come within the name of the airport. For example, JFK is just (J)ohn (F) (K)ennedy Airport, MIA is (M)iami (I)nternational (A)irport. So honestly "RVA" ((R)iver(v)iew (A)irport) or "RIA" ((R)iverview (I)nternational (A)irport) would make sense for its code.
The international airport may be huge but you save space on the train station, which it has embedded along with large amounts of parking space for cars.
In regards to the name maybe Ravenwood airport, since that neighborhood was demolished to build the airport, and the locals would probably still refer to the area as ravenwood. Usually ariports have both an IATA code and ICAO code. For the ICAO, since it's in 'murrica, KRVW, KRRV, KRVD; K being the geographic indicator of america followed by some sort of letter mix from the name(city/airport name). IATA can also be a mix of letters from the name, like RVW RIV RIW RVO ROD.
In regards to all that, a suggestion would be to rename the entire district to something like "ravenwood transport hub" since, well, it kind of already is one. love your videos :D
The public code may be just RVM (RiverView Metropolitan) and ICAO code for pilots would be KRVM (usually this is how it's done in the US, unlike Europe: DME is UUDD)
Make sure to add a K before any airport identifier (3 letter code) you choose. American airports follow this rule. For example, Dallas-Fortworth International is KDFW. You should do KRIV or KRVR. A lot of airports choose to mode their FAA code and IATA code after their city name.
Maybe a weird suggestion but name the airport after a ‘random’ person in the city (like he’s famous), just like John F Kennedy Airport, and then make the airpor code, as it is called, 1St letter of first name, 1st letter of surname, and then X
I think I found a suitable location for river view IRL it is at 45.38493 degrees north and 112.14178, Montana Ur welcome ☺️
Best city ive seen in Cities Skylines 2 so far! Just a shame that the assets in cs2 (the aiport in particular) look so terrible. Really waiting for mods to come in before buying this game.
I could watch a 40 minute video of just the cinematic view of your city. As for the name of the airport how about VCN ( very creative name) lol.
