Imagine using an instrument from another culture and putting modern style melody into it NOICE. Cuz never thought thus instrument could be used this way since I hear it so much at funerals or my cultural events
So many unique instruments are passed over in the modern times for the things we all recognize and are familiar with, but this one, this one resonates with me in a different way. I need more of this!
Can you image going to his show and being exposed to this instrument for the first time and just sitting there in awe. Its quite a magical thing to think of all the sounds from around the world that you may not know. I stumbled across one of his tiktok videos and now im here and hooked on this sound. Much praise! 😄
You caught me. I've been playing those 2 chords practically since the first time I picked up the khaen. The fingering lays very naturally. Thanks for listening.
It just means Hal Walker is proof that if you're good enough you can play the same thing over and over again with some variations and still sound amazing
I love the Khaen! My childhood was full of traditional Thai music that my dad would play on and on so this sound is very familiar to me. It's very nostalgic and so, so beautiful!
I don't know how to call it, but this Khaen you can blow and suck the air it makes the same sound. So you can play continuously. Is that the same as a circular breathing?
Circular breathing is more like pushing out the remaining air in your mouth without using your lungs, while simultaneously breathing in through your nose.
He journeyed across the world to remote reaches of a country of a completely different culture to find the creators of an instrument that can create music so beautiful it can make all the atoms in your body dance and sing like furious warriors and brought it back here to share and preform these melodies and enlighten us of what beautiful ear tingling music sounds like. I iust love the two people in back trying to find the right tones and notes to jump and jam with you but struggle from the start cause youre playing so many notes at the same time its hard to gind just one chord or note to jazz into... wonderful
So glad a lad Bible video about you popped into my Facebook feed, this instrument is beautiful and you're incredibly talented, can't wait to see what else you do with it!
I think the familiarity everyone seems to feel with this comes from organs and horn sections in modern music and a lot of what we grew up with. It has a similar feel and fills a similar musical space
I don’t know what it is about this instrument... It’s half surreal and half familiar; beautiful. But with the backing of the bass drum and bass, I ultimately I got some major detective or sleuthing vibes. Damn. This was so good 👌🏽🔥🔥
Thank you so much for bringing able to showcase this musical instruments various abilities and styles! I never noticed how beautiful this instrument could sound. I can’t wait to hear more musical renditions from you in the future! I would love to hear you to try out the Hmong Qeej (Luseng) and see what wonderful melodies are in store for this instrument.

If you know any others please let me know, also inform me of any upcoming events in ohio this guy might be doing. I really enjoy his stuff, very melodic and enchanting.
I have a lot of problems actually, but when i listen to this, it's like if i never has any problems..! This song is just amazing! I dont know why it's only 4 years later that i finally find it, but wow, it is just amazing! I wish there was a 2 hours version haha!

beautiful khaen song i hope can you play other song with other east Asian and south-east Asian mouth organ one is a ploong or plung from Myanmar and Bangladesh and sompoton or sumpoton from Malaysia other one is sheng and hulusheng ( gourd sheng) from china :)
So this is the origin of all those neat RPG scores I use to hear ans still hear in games.
Yeah dude I feel like I just healed my party with potions after a rough battle
Unironically, it's sounds so familiar, like some Final Fantasy game
Is that where it's from, this sounds so familiar but I don't know where it's from.
I dunno man since my country is Laos and kinda under the radar I doubt Japan would come to it for their games unless maybe they did dunno
I think the sound is mostly from the khaen's japanese cousin, the Sho
The amount of expression this instrument is capable of producing is amazing.
If you thibk this can express the musician, watch some piano of Debussy, Claire de lune

Nah, I thought the same, but i only hear the same 2 chords in every piece, idk why but that's too limited
I think that's the perfect song to show off what the instrument is capable of.
What song is it?

This instrument gives me ghibli vibes. I know joe hisaishi would do an amazing piece having the Khaen as the main melody.
I know have to sleep every night with the dream of this becoming a reality, thx :( lol
I was thinking of this 😭😭 I was looking for someone else to comment it
Really reminds me of spirited away, specifically
so you’ve been playing these 2 chords for 5 years? never gets old.
In all fairness, when a khaen is made it’s made in a certain key. So to play a wide variety of chords you’d literally need multiple khaens.
