Exactly. I saw the title "you've NEVER heard a choir like this" and I was like "Oh yeah?"
And before the video even started playing, I saw "Bulgarian State Radio & Television Female Vocal Choir" and I nodded my head and thought "Yep, I remember those mysterious Bulgarian voices."
(For you young'uns, the recording that made this choir famous, "Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares," received a lot of favorable attention when it was released in the US in 1987.)

What you're enjoying is called "just intonation" and it's mostly lost today except in acapella groups. they could also harmonize just as well with a non fretted string instrument. But most of the magic is destroyed by equal tempered instruments like guitars and pianos. There's a video going around of this exact song where a guy tries to put the cords on a piano and it's absolute butchery.

Singers are chosen from country villages for the beauty and openness of their voices, and undergo extensive training in the unique, centuries-old singing style. Influenced by Bulgaria's Thracian, Bulgarian, Ottoman and Byzantine history, their music is striking in its use of diaphonic singing and distinctive timbre, as well as its modal scales, unusual meters (such as 7/8, 9/8, and 11/8), and dissonant harmonies (abundant second, seventh, and ninth intervals). All of these are characteristic of Bulgarian folk music.

A girl named Meredith gave me a tape of a Bulgarian children's choir, Chor Bodra Smyana, in the 1980s, starting an intense love affair with this music. Was blessed to see and hear this choir at Sydney Town Hall in the early 1990s. It was like a school concert, they were just so humble, but such glorious, transporting music. I'll never forget it.

Incredible how recognizable these harmonies are - not because I've listened to a lot of Bulgarian folk chiors, but because there are a lot of other music inspired by it. The main theme from Myst IV is extremely close to the first portion of this, down to the sounds of the fictional language used. And Karl Jenkins' Adiemus is clearly inspired by the more uptempo (major key) portions of this. Just an amazing style of harmony.

Love hearing non-Western rhythm patterns such as the 9/16 being divided 2-2-2-3 here. The "extra" beat is a standard feature of folk music and dance in Bulgaria and the region and where rhythms like the alternating 33/16 and 36/16 in "Bulgarian Bulge" come from. You just ride along with the 2-beat patterns and wait for the 3-beat to land.

Yes, I have! Of course I've heard this particular choir. They make some of the most beautiful music in the world, in my opinion. They bring tears of joy to my eyes, and I don't know how to describe what they bring to my ears...
The tears however, run through the nasolacrimal duct down into my nose and I need a handkerchief. I get the taste of salt in my mouth. And I get goose bumps. All the signs of emotional activity, one of the most common reactions to music - unless it's just a tool for dancing you ego down into your body, where it might forget itself.. Mine forgets itself immediately listening to this.
