@@moisiewe Just the idea of an exact match in contrast to a close but not exact match. In other words, it sounds like maybe the same choir and people... not just the same type of sound. If it's not the same choir and people singing, it's so close as to be indistinguishable.
This was fabulous, but my favorite is the Cosmic Voices from Bulgaria with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. Phenomenal harmonies. I listen to that one all the time. It’s beautifully different. Tho this one had even more difficult harmonies but each part PERFECT!
i loved performing and learning this song!! Very beautiful when you are standing amongst dedicated and talented women! it was such a fun song! Bulgarian folk songs are always leave me in awe!
I've got tons of samples of Bulgarian folk choir that I use in various production projects. It can really cut through a mix, and if you round off the high end a bit it makes for a very ethereal-sounding pad.
Incredible how recognizable these harmonies are - not because I've listened to a lot of Bulgarian folk chiors, but because there are a lot of other music inspired by it. The main theme from Myst IV is extremely close to the first portion of this, down to the sounds of the fictional language used. And Karl Jenkins' Adiemus is clearly inspired by the more uptempo (major key) portions of this. Just an amazing style of harmony.
Love hearing non-Western rhythm patterns such as the 9/16 being divided 2-2-2-3 here. The "extra" beat is a standard feature of folk music and dance in Bulgaria and the region and where rhythms like the alternating 33/16 and 36/16 in "Bulgarian Bulge" come from. You just ride along with the 2-beat patterns and wait for the 3-beat to land.
Yes, I have! Of course I've heard this particular choir. They make some of the most beautiful music in the world, in my opinion. They bring tears of joy to my eyes, and I don't know how to describe what they bring to my ears... The tears however, run through the nasolacrimal duct down into my nose and I need a handkerchief. I get the taste of salt in my mouth. And I get goose bumps. All the signs of emotional activity, one of the most common reactions to music - unless it's just a tool for dancing you ego down into your body, where it might forget itself.. Mine forgets itself immediately listening to this.
I guess every two decades or so, the next generation has to rediscover Bulgarian choral music. Looks like it’s time again.
Yeah, they sound like they just climbed Everest.😂

@@mariapap8962but phrygian harmony is not in everyone's vocabulary
A girl named Meredith gave me a tape of a Bulgarian children's choir, Chor Bodra Smyana, in the 1980s, starting an intense love affair with this music. Was blessed to see and hear this choir at Sydney Town Hall in the early 1990s. It was like a school concert, they were just so humble, but such glorious, transporting music. I'll never forget it.
Поздрави от България!
"you've never heard a choir like this" oh honey i've been on the koprivshtitsa festival stage
I doubt ppl here know wth is Koprivshtitsa festival 😂
@@moisieweone way or another, they shall figure it out, am I right?!
No need to be at that festival. It's quite know genre amongst any choral lovers. And I'm in Brazil, south hemisphere, so...Misleading title only...
Who are you talking to
@@MiguelCastro-km3lx It's not misleading for like the vast majority of Earth, and it's great to see that becoming less and less the case
You never heard a choir like this. Unless you played Witcher 3. Then you have heard something like this for at least 60 hours.
Le le le le - main battle song
There are Bulgarian songs in The Witcher 3. Steel for Humans is Bulgarian.
100%. But it's a bit different. All those intervals and odd time signatures. I want them to add more music like this in TW4.
lmao XD good one
1:44 hit me. I've never teared up from something simply from its sheer beauty until this. Wow
Beautiful close harmony with each voice in exact pitch.
Most people have no idea how difficult this is to perfect.
BRAVO.
Thank you very much for promoting our folklore. Videos like this are emotional to watch because you feel so appreciated. We indeed have lots of talented people especially in music in a small country like Bulgaria. Sadly, people inside the country forget and underestimte it. Be blessed.
I'm from the American midwest, and I have listened to music like this. This is a beautiful example. Thanks.
Ghost In The Shell! I have to look it up to confirm it but I'd put a lot of money on it. This is freaking mesmerizing and gorgeous, just like the beginning of that lgendary anime.
Ah, apparently Kenji Kawai said it was "influence by them", not actually performed by them, based on numerous online sources.
I've always wondered where I can find such goosebump-inducing music ever since the late 90s. I'm so glad I've found it.
Yup it Sounds like Ghost in the Shell soundtrack
I had the exact same thought!
I totally love it - beautiful voices ! 💕Sounds so perfect!
I love this piece and how it's filled with so many tensions and releases. The buildup to 1:24 is amazing and feels so bright compared to what came before, and can we talk about that F major chord?! Their voices are incredible and blend so well together too. This was awesome.
NOD! Good music taste ;)
This had a profound impact on me in the early 1990's. This recording, in particular, I must have listen to this hundreds of times. But now seeing the video, oh boy, oh boy, what would I give to conduct such a vocal ensemble...
Need to listen again... and again.... and again... and... so beautiful - both all the girls and the music. Must listen ... again!
Not only they sing like angels, they all look stunningly beautiful!
Their voices are beautiful.
What a beauty !!! Love from france
Heavenly! I’m so happy this was offered by my algorithm, I’m an instant fan!
There has never been a powerful or moving 2 minutes and 8 seconds of singing. Why it's so powerful..is hard to put into words. It would be wonderful to re-unite these beautfiul women at some point to conjure the magic once more. Thankyou ladies for briefly opening the Gates of Heaven for us mere mortals to witness!!
I LOVE harmonic dissonance. Beautiful vocals!
A cappella too. Beautiful young ladies singing beautiful music. Well done, choir, well done.
Millions of light years away, another star has just been created.
Okay, can we please just appreciate, what kind of a great singer and how perfect you need to be in your voice, that you can even create these choirs?!
I heard Kitka decades ago on hearts of space and public radio. Bought 2 of the Bulgarian Women’s CDs, great music!
Yes I have heard a choir like this. Bulgarian choral music has a very distinct and unmistakeable character.
So I've never heard music like this?!?! Yup...you were right. Freaking awesome post
Mesmerisingly brilliant!! I feel transfixed when I listen to this choir, the complexity of their harmonies and the depth of tone is fascinating and wonderful. I listen often to feel that wonder, it's almost addictive!!!
As a Dutchman not only heard it, I've sung it. It's not the harmonies that are the problem, it's the meters.
Thirty years ago I sang in a choir specialised in Russian music, but with a change of director came a shift into Slavic music from the Balkans... that took some getting used to.
I've been to Bulgaria and I sure have. Amazing tradition.
Damn this is insane.
I appreciate the transcription 👏
No way... I just couldn't believe my ears and my eyes as well... These girls are so gorgeous talented singers, singing with the voice of angels... I fell in love immediately.
AND THANK YOU for the transcription of this breathtaking performance. Yep, they are like no other.
Love those major & minor 2nds! And of course a great transcription!
I don't know what I'm listening. this is sublime
Holly shit, goosebumps all over the place. The power choosing the right spot to put dissonances.
I fell in love with the Bulgarian women’s choir a long time ago sooooo haunting ❤
Soooo, I'm guessing this type of music inspired whoever wrote the music for Ghost in the Shell. This is seriously one of my favorite things I've ever heard... ever. I got chills several times.
Not only GitS,a lot of Japanese anime OSTs have Bulgarian folklore music in it.
Ghost in the Shell is exactly what I was thinking too!
@ghostlyflapjack Yeah totally. Not just similar but dead ringer.
@@scartinmorsese7723what means "dead ringer"?
@@moisiewe Just the idea of an exact match in contrast to a close but not exact match. In other words, it sounds like maybe the same choir and people... not just the same type of sound. If it's not the same choir and people singing, it's so close as to be indistinguishable.
Thank you for including the score! Such rich harmonies there!
BTW, this takes tremendous work an dedication. From a fellow romanian neighbour, love and admiration!
I cycled from Switzerland to Bulgaria to hear choirs but didnt. Sob. Thank you. I enjoy the dancing and costumes.
I saw these voices in France in Burgundy in an abbey in 1990. Incredibly wonderful !
Thanks for this music. The Bulgarian female choirs sing with this unique sound.
I like it that this style is a living tradition, it inspires me.
Excellent performance.
i loved performing and learning this song!! Very beautiful when you are standing amongst dedicated and talented women! it was such a fun song! Bulgarian folk songs are always leave me in awe!
Greetings from Turkiye 🇧🇬❤️🇹🇷
It never stops being mind blowing. Have heard this type of music for years and it is always amazing. Thank you for posting this.
I cant listen to this without being in a constant state of goosebumps and shivers. Amazing!
Beautiful, captivating and so skilled..... more, please😊❤
I have heard many times but never fails to blow me away.
this was amazing, haunting, and hypnotic. The harmony, and tension created, and the rhythms... thank you
Seen them live in a church in Hamburg. Was surreal.
Gorgeous ladies with beautiful synchronized harmonious voices. 😍👍
This is a marvel : short, but fantastic. I fell in love with those choirs.
My aunt and uncle live in the Bulgarian mountains. I should send them this.
Потрясающие голоса, потрясающее исполнение, потрясающая композиция и потрясающие исполнительницы. В этом видео всё потрясающее❤
I LOVE THIS SONG, dont know much of Bulgarian songs but its so beautiful and addicting
Listen to 'Kalimankou Denkou', it's hauntingly beautiful.
Proud to be Bulgarian!
my choir sings kaval sviri- bulgarian folk music is one of our favorite genres!
I never get tired of hearing this. Magical and uplifting.
ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНОЕ ИСПОЛНЕНИЕ! БРАВО!!!
literally ghost in the shell
Kenji Kawai loves Bulgarian choir folklore
