    I love your channel so much, it has helped me out a lot and so glad I’m early here. I admit that some products I got for my chinchilla Oliver weren’t the best, and just wanted to say thanks so much. Btw I got the exercise ball for Oliver, I now know that they can overheat inside of them, that was a year ago in 2017 not 2018 I now know better. Thank you

    Hay balls are for sure out of the question as they are extremely dangerous. Pet shop owners or employees, don't tell you about pros and cons. They just sell you their product!! So unless either you experience through your chinchilla or get to know from other serious chinchilla owners. Avoid also plastic objects as our little friends chew up everything they find, plastic is toxic. Even, be careful re treats. Though a lot of treats are said to be chinchilla friendly,( there's written on the pkts), they're not. No nuts, dried or fresh fruit or vegs. They only need fresh water, good quality hay, pellets and treats made up of dried herbs like oregano, mint, rosehip, dried apple sticks and much more which is impossible to jot down. Thanks for your useful info😊 Your little chin is so beautiful 💖💖

    I've literally done all these things myself so don't feel bad. Lol. I did wanna say that exercise balls are perfectly fine for a Chinchilla. Your chinchilla should have lots of cage room for running and jumping to begin with (I have 2, they have a 7 foot tall 9 story cage) and also should be in a temp controlled area. Just like the exercise wheels they need to be watched when they are using these products because they do not always know when to stop and will over do it. I have a wheel for my male (female will not use it) and a ball for my female (male will not use it) they get to use them a few times a week with my supervision, and I make sure they do not over do it. My female loves her ball even though she doesn't have room to jump and will run right to it when I hold it up to the cage door. She will run around and usually come back to me when she is ready. My male loves his wheel, to much. He will not stop running until I remove him from it. I rescued my male and I wanna point out one major issue with wheels. Previous parents had a metal wheel with tiny holes in it, instead of the solid plastic ones (idk if they even still make the metal ones) long story short he was running like crazy and got a toe stuck in one of the small holes and is now missing a toe....

    I really want a chinchilla, and I've been doing research about them for a long time. I have a VERY VERY VERY long thing that I wrote in my phone about information of chinchillas.(most of that info was from you. Thx alot btw💜💜💙💙💝💝) but I'm not sure if my parents will let me have a chinchilla. I want to ask at the right time, but I'm not sure when. Can you please help me.

    • @gracecao9563
      @gracecao9563 5 лет назад +1

      supergirlbmxer supergirlygamer taking care of chinchillas can be pretty pricey so first make sure that your parents are willing to spend atleast $100 on a chinchilla and $170 on a good cage. And also all the basic necessities. Also make sure that they like the concept of taking care of an animal. Ask them when they are relaxed because they will be more willing to than if you ask while your parents are stressed and stuff. Hopefully this helps! :3

      supergirlbmxer supergirlygamer make sure you get at least two, if you can’t get two a chinchilla is not for you. Only having one chinchilla is animal abuse.

      supergirlbmxer supergirlygamer Also do not get one with territorial problems or that has to live alone because you will still have to get two plus two of everything
      Ex. 2 cages, 2 wheels, etc.

Her name is lola💕 Its been a few months and i love lola so much. You have to be patient because i waited almost a year but if the time is right ask away! Say that they are so amazing and tell them everything good. But also say the bad things but say how you can deal with them. I hope this helped!! Good luck!

    I actualy have a kaytee plastic water bottle that hasn't had issues yet ( I also didn't buy it. Roo's previous owners neglected her and had a lot of bad things in her 1 story hamster cage.). I do want to switch it however for a better one. I actually do use a hay ball but not the one that most people get. It is the ONLY Kaytee product Ill buy. It does have plastic on it but Roo has never chewed on it (and she chews on everything). The plastic actually prevents her from getting caught in it.

    • @TheChinchillaNotebook
      @TheChinchillaNotebook  5 лет назад +1

      Matt Schlabach I wouldn’t try and push her boundaries too far with picking her up just yet. It’s important that you win her trust and keep it and she might be one of those chins that dislike being held (most do) and if that’s the case later on, respect those boundaries and stick with just petting and touching but not picking up. That way your bond with her will always be strong 😌

    • @TheChinchillaNotebook
      @TheChinchillaNotebook  5 лет назад +2

      Giggleb00 Maybe don’t try and push his boundaries. Some chinnies may hate to be held or picked up so respect that and just stick with petting and scratching their chins and ears. I know it can be annoying sometimes but most chins don’t like being held and in order to keep their trust and maintain a strong bond with them, you can’t step out of their boundaries and force them to be held. Maybe your chin will change in the future in that aspect though💕💕💕

    Just curious, is that dust powder your chin is rolling in, or did you potty train your chin with cat litter and a litter box? I have a rabbit, have had him for 6 years, and he has always used a litter box with cat litter, so that would be sweet if I could potty train my chin the same way.

    • @mistydevillier2197
      @mistydevillier2197 5 лет назад +1

      You can train them to pee in a certain spot but, the poop just falls out. They can't control that.

    • @emilyholder9641
      @emilyholder9641 5 лет назад

      You can absolutely potty train a chin to pee in a box. I wouldn't use cat litter though. We use the same wood shavings they have in the bottom of their cage, with some cage fresh granules underneath.

    • @N302D
      @N302D 5 лет назад

      I have 4 chinchillas. I have a litterbox with a grate over it for them. The grate helps to keep them dry while they urinate. (You can research them because there's so many to choose from)
      Also, on the floor of my cages I have puppy pee pads. This helps them for those whatever moments and it helps catch the water bottle drips, as well

      Chillies shouldn't be in warm rooms, or in direct sunlight, but beyond that the only reason I'd say maybe don't have them in your room is the noise. They play at night, and I know mine love to throw their toys around and just be wild children. Other than that, there's no reason why you can't.

    I have a chinchilla ball for my chin, I only let him in it for 30 sec or 1 min and then let him free but Now that I know they are bad I only use them to like take her to a place (the bathroom lol, the most common thing for chinchilla owners 😂) and it’s close to the living room so she doesn’t over heat very quickly.

      Kelly The galaxy star, instead of using a ball and having your chin stressed out from you shoving him into it try using a box or just holding him. If he doesn’t like being held or he scratches you safely wrap him in fleece.

      As Wrigley said, a box is good. I use my two's carrier as my lil man hates being held. The danger of even using a ball for a minute is their hands and feet can get trapped in the gaps.

      Kelly The galaxy star To transport your chin, you can lure her into her dust bath and that way carefully carry her in it💕

      Savy Gaming Yeah he has a small night light behind his cage on the bottom level that helps him see a little bit better. They have excellent vision in the dark so just a little light helps💕

    Lluvia has salt rocks but she doesn’t like them. She didn’t even pay they any attention she just wanted the rope that was attached to it.

    What about raisins? You didn't tell us in the end. I give my Chinchilla raisins from time to time so I'm curious

    • @hollym3713
      @hollym3713 5 лет назад

      RacoonGreg a very very small amount is okay. It’s a very sugary snack so they should not be given too many too often. I give mine one or two about once a week. I am not a trained veterinarian so I am only telling you from my experince

    • @RacoonGreg
      @RacoonGreg 5 лет назад

      @@hollym3713 Oh thanks. That sounds ok. I give him like 3 at once but once in a week or two. I hope it's ok to give him that amount at once

    • @hollym3713

      I personally do. I know others who do and I know some who say it’s bad.. it is a high sugar content which is why I only feed a small amount every so often. Both of mine have been fine with raisins in small amounts. Most books you’ll read will tell you to not feed them because it is too sugary and their diet should consist of mostly fresh hay and pellets.. But my girl is 8 years old, happy and healthy!

    Why are raisins bad for chinchillas? I heard you say that but didn’t explain. I feed my chin, Theo, raisins and am curious

      Raygan Cameron don’t, the sugar.

    • @TheChinchillaNotebook
      @TheChinchillaNotebook  5 лет назад

      Raygan Cameron Raisins are pretty high in sugar which is dangerous for Chinchillas since their digestive systems don’t process it well♥️

      It looks like there was more than enough sand in there for one chin to bathe and/or play in. Why do you feel like she needs more?
      You do realize that the poo is inevitable, right?

    All Kaytee products are cheap! They are terrible quality with cheap dyes. They are cheap to make but sell for a discounted price which makes people thinks it’s really good.
