Can getting poor fuel economy, rough idle and a check engine light (that indicated random misfire) be signs of my knock sensor going out? The check engine light seems to happen when the temperature is low, mostly in the winter time.

Hi, managed to figure it out? Poor fuel economy, rough idle, and a check engine light indicating random misfires can indeed suggest issues beyond just the knock sensor, such as problems with spark plugs, ignition coils, or fuel system issues. However, a failing knock sensor typically doesn’t cause these symptoms directly. The fact that your check engine light comes on mostly in cold temperatures might indicate that environmental factors are affecting engine performance. It would be a good idea to have a mechanic perform a thorough diagnosis to pinpoint the exact issues.

You've got a upper intake gasket leaking when it's cold. I'm guessing it goes away when it warms up, I just replaced mine 2 wks ago cause it was doing the same thing. I bought every part I could think of trying to chase the problem down and that's all it was. Hope it helps ya out

Would it cause a loud engine

A faulty knock sensor can indirectly cause a loud engine by failing to detect engine knocking or pre-ignition. This can lead to issues such as persistent engine knocking, increased exhaust noise, valve train noise, and abnormal combustion noise. These problems arise because the ECM may not adjust the ignition timing correctly, causing the engine to run poorly and placing additional stress on various engine components. If you experience a loud engine noise alongside other symptoms of a faulty knock sensor, it is essential to have the issue diagnosed and repaired by a professional mechanic to prevent further damage to your engine.
