8:05 the line is drawn here, because cloutifuls dks configuration doesn't just reverse the key behavior, it does two things during the release motion: press AND release. that's why it's 63ms. because the software stops holding it after 63ms. so it's not just his motions in reverse, but it has an additional programmed motion in it as well

He does use a configuration that only reverses the key.
You can also see Plasma saying it in his tweet at 4:22 and in the picture below
He had one key normal and the other key reversed.
So when he presses both, only one key activates and when he releases the other key activates.
So it would be an allowed mechanic when using it on both keys, but using it on one key only lets you do the same thing as if you would bing a macro with a delay to one key.
On one key he would have to change the delay based on the bpm, but having it like I explained, there is nothing you have to changed and it is actually smarter to use it like that.

@@datbrokkoli he's right though, if it was just inversed you'd need to hold Z in order for it not to be pressed all the time, which cloutiful didn't do in his liveplay. It deactivates after 63ms or 42ms

I kind of agree with wooting tbh, it is weird that this is considered cheating. It is different hardware that gives you an advantage, just like a drawing tablet is over a mouse. Just because the current "meta" is drawing tablet and a normal kb double tapping, shouldn't mean that anything that is found to be better or easier to use (as long as it doesn't automate things, which this doesn't) is banned. Experimentation like this should be allowed and encouraged to become the new meta. That said, if there were rules in place that apply to this, he should be punished for it, I just personally don't think this should be considered cheating. It is one keypress for one input, the way the input comes out shouldn't really matter. You should be allowed to use a keyboard, nes controller, fighting game pad, a second mouse taped to your foot, a steering wheel, literally whatever, to do your inputs.

it's a better way and does provide an advantage, but the main point is that it doesn't provide an unfair advantage. it's like saying expensive mice should be banned and only let people play on 5 dollar office mice because the expensive ones are easier to play on

what if there was a world where cloutiful didnt hide his DKS strategy and ended up asking the community/staff about it and it actually ends up approved? It wouldnt seem farfetched as it would ONLY seem like a problem(?) when they found out about his hold times, making it some sort of bias that its wrong like "whoa, u get good scores about some way we DIDNT know." If we knew his strat before he got accused, would it make a difference?
It would almost definitely not make a difference whether he was upfront about it or not. it is still functionally the same as a macro and is also only replicable with a very limited set of peripherals, which would make a certain level of skill blatantly pay to win because Wooting keyboards are expensive.

I would like to preface this by saying I am NOT an osu player at all. With snap tap coming out, it takes aways the skill needed for movement mechanics in games like Counterstike and Overwatch (and are allowed now), which is kinda reinventing the standard for keyboards and would be similar to when mechanical keyboards were new and membrane keyboards were the standard. From his explanation dks takes away the skill needed for some specific mechanic in osu, however DKS may seem like an unfair advantage now because only some players have access to this with their keyboards but if it became the standard and everone had started to gain access to this feature im sure it would be more balanced. By making it a bannable feature I think it just limits the next innovation in really the gaming scene.

Maybe it's because osu only allows universal keyboards? Wooting keyboards have an extra feature that most keyboards don't, so it's an unfair advantage for anyone who doesn't have it.

i dont know why noone say it. but DKS obviously do break rules because even if you consider press and release as different actions, with DKS when you release button you are not only pressing key in game, you are also releasing key you pressed before, so it is two actions, same thing when you press button, you are releasing key that was pressed by releasing button = also 2 action, so you do 4 actions when you should do only 2. Osu is not only about pressing, releasing also matters.

@@nweba1 If that's what it takes, then yes, they all have to be analyzed. That's the beauty of competitive games. Something similar happened to Trackmania community, since then they automated the process and created an update with anti-cheat of sorts. In case of osu, I'm pretty sure it can be automated too, by just looking at DKS' quirks, like that singular tap into nothing after stream with odd number of circles.
And yes, it is osu community responsibility. Removing features from keyboard is not the way, because while sure, you could cooperate with Wooting or other known brands, you most certainly can't with Chinese OEM manufacturers, which implement DKS too. Then cheaters will move on to those keyboards.
Alienating quite a lot of your users because of one playerbase is not the way. Why would I want for my UwU or Two HE to have features removed, if I don't play osu at all? It's a specific osu problem, then osu community should take care of solving it, end of story.

From an outsiders perspective using on release in mobas for better accuracy via in game settings, it feels like the community is just set too much on the past.
I personally think keyboards being able to activate both on release and on press, even on the same key is extremely useful and a standard feature of a modern keyboard if you choose to activate the setting.
It just feels like the community is set on what they know, like it's not like it takes any less skill, like so guitar/clone hero cheat when strumming up and down on the flicky thing?
Moreso does a player using only 1 button play the game in a more valid way than people using 2 or 3 fingers to tap?
And to the hardware aspect, it feels like it's looked down upon to use a mouse rather than having the accuracy of a drawing pad and stylus, that's a direct hardware advantage that's not in the standard feature set of a mouse. But when something becomes standard on modern keyboards then it's a problem?
And it's not even a macro, you could literally just have a switch or a button that just activates on press and on release, you're still the one playing.
If you want things in a specific way for a competitive thing, make it the rules. But it would be like "Hardware advantages are banned (EXCEPT ALL THESE HARDWARE ADVANTAGES)" And then what do you do in 30 years when keyboards act differently than what it did in 2006, keep the same rules? How about just having fun playing a video game.
Dude, the whole thing with speed and accuracy, having someone use 1 key and get away with it will start a wave of people who are *not following rhythm on a rhythm game* . It's not comparable to using a stylus. You still have to learn how to aim with it regardless.

@Otacanthus works for sliders, makes sense, not for streams. that's completely killing the hard part, not rhythmic at all. The same double tapping without the macro awards you *a lesser score and accuracy* . That would be finding a way around it. Double tapping has been previously nerfed way before this cheating scandal
