How good is the new Range Rover - owner's review after 1 year and 15,000 KM

- Here is my status after 15,000 KM and one year in the new Range Rover L460 P510e.
The new Range Rover is one of the most desirable SUVs of all time. It looks the part, the design is in a class of its own, and the driving experience is comfortable and luxurious, up with the best premium cars out there.
The car seems well built but Range Rovers do have a reputation of poor quality and technical problems. The reputation is perhaps more hear-say, but I can let you in on the secret, that the reputation is partly justified. Other brands have issues too, but you are more likely have issues with your Range Rover.
But when there are no issues with the Range Rover, you are in heaven. It is great to drive, next level luxury, really.
In terms of the power train, the combination of the powerful petrol engine and the electric motor is near perfect, smooth and very powerful.
The consumption of the big Range Rover is surprisingly low. On long trips you’d mostly drive in hybrid mode. With a mix of city and highway, the petrol consumption comes out at 7-8 liters / 100 km.
After 15000 km my petrol consumption is now down to an average of 4.6 liters petrol / 100 km plus the electric power consumption as I charge the battery almost every day.
With the 38.2 kWh gross battery, of which 31.8 kWh net are usable, the electric-only range is at least 75 km in winter and 105 km in summer which is very good, I think. When driving in EV-mode, the consumption ranges between 30kWh in summer and 42kWh in winter per 100 km.
If you are sports car enthusiast then the Range Rover is not for you, then you should go for a Porsche, BMW, Audi or maybe Mercedes. The Range Rover is very soft, even in the hardest setting, and it rolls in the bends. But if you are a driver who focuses on comfort and style, and if the Range Rover image appeals to you, then this is a great choice.
What speaks against it? High running cost, high purchasing price and the size when driving in town. And the possibility of the technical issues.

I bought Range Rover sports autobiography, this is awesome machine, even after i drove it for 6 months,
10,000 KM, the car is really doing good, i am very happy with the Car.
Now 2 years and 40 000 km with my 2022 LR Defender 110 - D300 . Not a single issue. No software bugs, no nothing, So I am very happy with mine :)
This is the best buyers review i've could have clicked on.
Living in switzerland and intend to use the car exactly as shown. daily usability, issues and forrest ride impressions. Very glad about your content, thanks a lot!
Freut mich sehr zu hören🙏
You are very positive and optimistic man for calling these problems are minor, considering it's sold as a premium vehicle. But I think the JLR Group actually relies on such optimistic customer attitude to keep the doors open, and I respect that.
Every Range Rover Owner, Yes it has Problems lots of Problems, but once you drive One you'll understand why I Put up with the Problems.
Just niggling issues, but it’s not typical of just JLR , other brands having similar issues. Great honest review 👍👍
🙏
Really impressed by the thoroughness and measured critique.
I am surprised by your lenient attitude towards your dealer who clearly had not done a thorough PDI before handover. I would have been livid.
Look forward to catching up on your previous vids now.

I never get too upset about 1st world problems eg at a dealership if the people try to help and are polite.
Excellent and helpful video . Excellent English as well . Other than having to convert to UK miles etc much enjoyed , Also nice to see Switzerland my favourite country been there many times. Thank you

Just found your channel and very pleased I have. Really enjoyed this comprehensive and sensible review. Great presenting style too. I’ve liked and subscribed for few excellent videos. 👌👏
Thank you, Stephen !
Super engaging video - thanks for the great summary of the history, as well!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice review, especially appreciate your point about the different metal pieces in the 22” and 21” wheels and your experience with those not being correctly matched sometimes when the summer / winter tires are swapped.
🙏
Great review. Somehow you answered questions that many other reviewers didn’t… Would be happy to follow your vlogs about the car when it piles up some kilometres.
Thank you for your kind comment
Excellent video…… regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿👍🍸🍸
Great video, always problems with them ,but still the best car in the world,I had a L322 loved it ,thanks ❤️👍🏴
Exactly.
Just found your channel. Excellent review and views on the Range Rover 👌🏾
🙏
same here! totaty agreed!
I love this channel. Thanks for the video, Morten.
Thank you!
I absolutely love the L460 and Range Rovers in general. So much so I bought a Supercharged L322 because I love the boxy design. I drove a L405 and that was nice but this is even more luxurious. Maybe one day!
Very informative video from a consumer perspective.
Thank you sir
Happy that you like it.
Such a balanced and calm review 👍

Thanks for this honest review. We had recently spent 8 weeks on the road in India where these cars are built. We found: In Goa none. In the state of Karnataka only very few in its capital of Bengaluru. None in Mysore, well there are practically no street signs there anyway. Over to Tamil Nadu. Yes in its capitol Chennai there are the largest dealerships with glass palates. Still they are outnumbered by BMW's and even Skodas. There are even the lates electric French cars ready on the road to test drive. In Pudycherry where the police is still in French hats they drive Peugeots and Citroens if they have money. Further south Tata electric cars are ruling the new generation of IT graduates and nursing trainees. In Kerala they have solar powered airports and shopping centers that can put the Dubai Mall to shame. I spent time with many affluent photographers who make adventure documentaries about the Himalayas. They do crave for French diesel small SUV's just because their friends drive them and they are efficient. Indian fuel stations all display the density of fuel and the delivery date. A Rover driver would only get fuel from a very recent and reliable delivery. Number one make is still Suzuky-Maruti with the Koreans making fast inroads. So I asked the rich: Where are your Rovers? They answered: Mostly driving around in New Delhi!
The “issues” you experience are exactly the same as my 21 Mercedes GLS. Air suspension will have a glitch fault with a hard pothole or rain on road (I live in Florida). Turn it off and back on and nothing happened. Then the headlight DRLs I’ve had to other cars I bought new within the first year and had software or hardware fixes , Audi A5, VW Jetta GLI, Mercedes GLS and C-class, Alfa Giulia, BMW 650i. Winter tires isn’t a thing out in FL so I don’t have to worry about that. My GLS has had recalls or small minor issues first year and a half but dealer took care and gave me loaners, and after that nothing except for service and tires. I call the first year or so with new cars “growing pains” of the car getting used to existing and working to know you, I guess. I still have the GLS with 50k miles and looking to trade for LWB 7 seater Range Rover. My uncle and his wife bought Range Rovers every 4 yrs for last 20yrs and they virtually never had “issues” nothing major just minor growing pains.
I think you may have been unlucky with courtesy cars. I’ve had 2 RR Sports and now a RR P550e. The first from Huber in Zug, the second from Ausee in Au, and the third from Emil Frey Sihlbrugg, after the management change. I’ve had good luck with reliability, but when I did need a courtesy car it has almost always been a Range Rover Evoque and on one occasion an iPace EV. We will do our first road trip this week and with only 500km; almost all electric, on the clock it will be good to finally hear the engine! Thanks for your review.
Enjoy the wonderful RR
A super and fair and very clear review , thank you! I do enjoy your content. I like that you recommended keeping the car in the mode where it decides EV/ICE for itself and then starts to learn. Do you have the HUD onto the windscreen in your car, and do you rate it if so? 🇬🇧👋👋🇨🇭
Yes, have the HUD, and it is pretty good except when driving towards the direct sunlight
@@morten_hannesbo very decent of you to reply! :-) thank you
@@richryan8904 Of course! Thank you for watching
Would love to have one.
A main dealer should have at least the same brand (if not the same model) as a courtesy car.
Superb review

mega cool kompetenti car szene vode schwiz zgse! Ha suscht immer sGfühl sind ziemli verklemmt da wenns ums Auto gaht...
2 Evoque kah und absolut zfriede gsi. Mir hends zum Glück kei problem gmacht
Suspension shot was really cool!

So no reliability problems....I guess it's only select models like the new range trivet sport sv.... In waiting got the Defense Octa
@@AGC828 It never let me down, just needed to drive past the dealer a few times...
I ordered my P530 5 months ago. It has arrived at my local dealership, but with some issues already... there was a recall that had to be taken care of at port before coming to the dealership, so the delivery date was delayed by 2 weeks. Then, the delivery... well... has not happened yet, as there is a nationwide dealer software issue and they cannot make the delivery of the car. The electric side steps were not installed (although ordered), and the extended leather on the dashboard was not installed either, although I ordered it. So now I have a beautiful black and ivory interior, with an ugly, cheap looking upper dashboard. Looks like insulation materials. I haven't received the car yet and I am already fed up with it.
Sorry to hear this. I'd probably refuse to take delivery and order a new one.
Having done the same mileage I can only say I had the suspension issue once. For the rest no issues
Good to hear, enjoy the wonderful car.
Wow, thanks for the brutal, uhm honest review. The amount of issues in the first year of ownership is shocking but probably on-brand 🎉
And the efficiency, wow, just wow. Didn’t know it even could be so bad.
And yet I love it
Sounds like the dealer doesn't really know how to deal with the modern tech.
Garage remote controller is underneath the rearview mirror!
Unfortunately not on mine🙃
@@morten_hannesbo Great video, thank you!!
@@muratkocak8507 Thx!
No standard garage opener?!?. Holy crap! That’s insane.
@@TBD2014 😂First world problem but still a bit stupid
I don’t understand what you mean about the speed reader. What do you want it to do??
It should automatically adjust the cruising speed according to speed limits.
Good video, but how many miles per gallon did you achieve?
Avg. consumption: 61.4 mpg (UK) over 15000 km
@@morten_hannesbo 🙏
You are suppose to use your thumb not 2 fingers for the silver switch on the steering wheel 😂
😄😂
They’re not minor issues. They’re a waste of your precious time. Thanks for sharing your experience. You seem to like owning cars that heavily depreciate. Taycan and now this.
😊Yes
this car didn't depreciate what are you talking about? In Switzerland this is nearly up there with the G wagon. Who wants an X7 or GLS, when you can have this.
And I say that as a Mercedes driver
@@v12-s65 Agree. So far JLR keeps the supply short and therefore used prices hold up.
That's why you buy it pre-owned a couple years old, or lease. Doesnt matter if it's a Land Rover or Honda, buying new isn't financially smart and you'll lose money.
@@hiro55cool yeah but Leasing means interest. In a lot of cases more expensive, especially if you wanna keep the car after contract
What's amusing is all the breakdowns have happened within 1 year of ownership, on a brand new rangerover.
It can only get worse from here. Land/ Rangerover is just never beating the allegations🤣🤣🤣
I drive one and no issues after 36000 miles . I might need to replace the wipers tho 😂😂😂😂
@@damienh9389 😂
Range Rover won't give you a range Rover while they repair your broken range Rover because range Rovers always break and they'd have to give you another range Rover that might also break down.
The l460 p530 is actually my dream car and yes I'll buy it knowing all the above 😅
I know people hate these replied but i'm now on my 5th Range Rover. Only one was ever returned to the dealer for a fault and that was down to a poor dealer not Jaguar / Land Rover. The remaining four only ever went to the dealers for routine servicing. In all cases, I've always been given a spotless Land Rover, Range Rover or Jaguar courtesy car.
Only gives me more confidence 😉
I believe him, from what he just said, I think you can still go ahead and buy one, but you need another car. I don't think it would be a wise choice to go with a Range Rover on Long trips.
😁It never left me standing.
These new models will start the end of LR. The greater use of chips are the achilles heal. The prices squeese the buyers into a smaller group. How can you survive this business model? They need to drop these cars and build for the masses. That would be under 50K.
5 unplanned visits to the dealer in 12 months is way better than most JLR products. Bunch of jokers.
😳Certainly not good!
Too much bloody software in these new cars..
@@rom3756 yes....
@LandRover needs to go experience life with a @Porsche @Lexus and see why they are rated the best in customer service, functionality, durability, and reliability, and what gets me going with the current ordering of very few options of interior color choices. They also put Tan/Beige on the dashboard, which caused a harmful reflective glare on the inside of the windshield/windscreen, which caused driver visibility issues. Which common sense lacking designer/engineer thought that was a good idea is beyond me; they should be fired for that alone; at these price points, we should be able to customize the interior design the way WE want to, not the way LRUK wants.
An Opel Corsa loaner for a top-of-the-range JLR product? That's not even the same brand, let alone the same parent company. At Mercedes-Benz they loan you an A-class or B-class, irrespective of the car it replaces.
@@deviation1000 agree
Too many issues for a new car 😢
@@emeraldmutahi2856 agree
Blimey, all those issues! Just get a Genesis GV80.
@@charlielanghorne7901 Smile...Genesis a great car but it is not a Range Rover
Can’t argue with that and I always wanted one - had the Queen’s for six months - but with the problems outlined it’s just too much. Also, when my GV80 went in for a service (which they collected for) my loaner was another GV80. I really, really want Range Rovers to be brilliant but their reliability it’s just too much of an issue for the prices.
